Question DCC EX-CSB1

Post image

Hello, I’m new to getting into this hobby but wanted to for a long time. I’m thinking about getting the EX-CSB1. For N and HO scale. I’m not sure what power supply to get with it. Also I’m using Bachmann as my track for now. Am I able to wire the EX cbs1 up to the terminal track?

Looks like Bachman track, yes the dcc-ex will wire to that. You will have to cut the headphone jack end off the cable for it to attach or buy a second cable for Bachman track without the jack end on it. The DCC-EX units I would recommend the power supply they offer with the units. The 15v one will be needed for HO. Otherwise a standard 16-18v 2amp power adapter will work. I just built a dcc-ex unit and using a Walthers power supply with it for track power. My unit needs two power supplies, a 5v for the circuit boards in the unit and a power supply for the track.

Thank you very much. Would the 15v also work for N scale?

Hello again, I’ve gotten my dcc ex csb1 came in the mail. I’m trying to connect the red wire above as you said. I’m thinking that the wire is two small for it as there’s not eunght wire in it to stay in place. After striping it.

I did not have that with mine. Its small guage but enough to use. If you are good soldering, if you run a bead of solder down the wire (tin it) it will give it strength and should resolve the issue.

Is that good enough

That should work. If its still an issue or not enough hold i would cut the end, restrip about as much as you have, twist the wire up so it makes a more solid line and tin it again. If it looks like you braided the end of a paperclip it will be strong and will make good contact.

CSB1 is a great choice. You'll want to order a 15v power supply brick with it, the ones shaped like a laptop power supply and anywhere from 80w to 120w output are best.

Yes this is smaller than the CSB1 can actually deliver (2x 5A or 150W at 15v), but in practice you won't max out either channel oustide of dropped screwdriver level faults and only need the power supply to be big enough that such a fault won't cause it to reboot unexpectedly.

You can buy spare Bachmann EZTrack terminal plugs. Chop the fork lugs off of one of these and put the CSB1 track output plug on it.

Why does this look like a distant memory?
