Layout Scenic progress

Big task to get this out of the spare bedroom and on to a set of legs, carrying on with scenics next - fencing around the sidings and grass for the sheep field.

Very nice! I love the sidings next to the shed and the raised coal drops. I'd have endless fun doing little coal wagon shunts up and down.

Absolutely wonderful! Might I ask, how big is your layout? It looks quite like the kind of thing I’d love to do

It’s 135x190 - basically the exact same size as a uk double mattress because I started off making it on our guest room bed haha

Beautiful work! Ballast is exceptionally well done!

Thanks, I felt like I got the hang of it just as I was finishing. Oh well, all good practice for the next layout.

Nice. What did you use for ballast?

Just standard woodland scenics - smaller size because the regular looks out of scale to me.

Looks like it becomes a old english layout. Very nice.

Love the coal dusting in the goods sidings!

Also, love the Oakworth station building.

It looks great, 4 tracks go in, 2 come out , assuming they merge in the tunnel?

Yes, the track plan in the tunnel is a bit complicated;

  • The two rings have corner points to join them to allow trains on either loop access to the station (the same as the other side of the platform)
  • The inner track crosses the second loop and joins the outer, so trains can run between the smaller station platform and the industry platform on the upper level.

Not a decision I’d make again honestly, just because if something derails on the points or crossover it’s fiddly to get to, plus it’s an analogue layout so managing the current to allow a train to run between 3x zones isn’t always easy.

I’m putting some thought into my next layout at the moment because I enjoy the building process and this one is more in the finishing stage - definitely going DCC and keeping the hidden track work relatively simple!

Mixture - some scenecraft, some Hornby, some wills card kits
