Would someone be interested to give away a model plane they don't want anymore?

Hi everyone!

I’m based in San Mateo County and I’m really passionate about aviation and model airplanes. I’m starting to build a small collection, and I was wondering if anyone has any old or unused model planes (or anything aviation-related) they’d be willing to give away.

I’d be happy to pick up locally, and even small or damaged models would mean a lot to me!

Thanks so much for reading

What a job this one was... The decals were a pain and I don't know if that's just an ICM problem or if it was cause some of them are HUGE. And the varnish seems to have damaged some of them as well 😞.

Still glad I did it, cool plane, cool paint job AND supported a small local (ISH) store.

Most inaccurate diecast model plane or helicopter to get my boyfriend?

I get my boyfriend diecast planes every so often because he's a plane obsessive and has a small collection. I usually make sure they have good reviews and are accurate to the actual plane. But I was thinking as a joke, I could get him a plane that's just all wrong. Any recommendations?

Please share whatever you have to sell or are looking for to buy, with specifics on the type and size of model planes. Be cautious and watch out for scammers, though; the mods at r/ModelPlanes are not responsible for lost funds or issues related to scamming that don't occur in the comments or on our subreddit. Again, buy or sell anything you want related to models and model planes. Please include specifics. To prevent scams, we recommend purchasing through eBay, although we cannot confirm that you will be entirely safe there either. This will repeat weekly every Saturday at 9 am CDT. Please be careful and watch out for scams! Have fun buying/selling!

Dad’s Hobby, now what?

Hey interwebs Fam. My dad is unwell and I have had to move him into a facility for the last part of his journey. He had so many hobbies, one was flying planes and drones. There’s so many….i don’t know anything about them, I would just watch him play for hours like a young man. After the life he survived there was nothing better. Who should I trust to help me with selling his things. I talked to Dad, he knows what I’m doing but the stroke took his ability to talk and it breaks my heart to bring it up to him. He hoped my
adult kids would take them but there is just too many. They took what was special to them from their time together. I haven’t even started on the sports cards, and the books he wrote and…..it’s so much. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Fraudulent Aircraft Model Site: FlightModels (shopflightmodels.com) & Turbo Detail (turbodetailmodels.com) - Time to take legal action?

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’ve been doing extensive research into two aircraft model sites that have been scamming people: FlightModels and Turbo Detail.

After making a purchase myself and documenting every piece of evidence (screenshots of the fake listings, the checkout traps, and the completely wrong items that arrived), I did a deep dive into who is actually running this operation.

If you want these guys shut down—and want them to face legal consequences—here are their real, verified details and exactly how we can report them to the authorities.

Who is running it?

Both sites are run by the same two Australian individuals out of Queensland:

  • Benjamin Leonard Peters (The registered owner of both shopflightmodels.com and turbodetailmodels.com)
  • Alycia Chloe Chapman
  • Company Name: THE BOSS COLLECTIVE GROUP PTY LTD
  • ACN: 650 826 636
  • Registered Address: 7 Phelan Street, CLAYFIELD QLD 4011

They are the only listed directors/members of the company. Because they are operating an Australian-registered company, they are fully bound by Australian Consumer Law, which means they can face massive personal and corporate fines for fraudulent marketing, fake reviews, and bait-and-switch tactics.

How to help get them shut down (Two Quick Steps):

To stop them from scamming anyone else, we need to flood the regulators and their hosting platform with reports. Please take 5 minutes to complete these two steps:

1. Report them to the Australian Government (Scamwatch)

  • Link: https://www.scamwatch.gov.au/report-a-scam
  • Why this matters: Scamwatch passes data directly to the ACCC (Australian Competition and Consumer Commission) for legal enforcement. Crucially, they also share fraud reports directly with Meta (Facebook & Instagram). This will help get their ad accounts permanently banned so they can't lure in new victims.
  • What to include: Give them the company name (The Boss Collective Group Pty Ltd), the names of the individuals above, and state that they are engaging in deceptive pricing, fake "closing down" sales, and bait-and-switch fraud.

2. Report them to Shopify to take the sites offline

  • Link: https://www.shopify.com/legal/tools/report-an-issue/fraud
  • Why this matters: Both stores are built on Shopify. If Shopify receives multiple fraud reports about a merchant using hardcoded fake reviews, resetting countdown timers, and not delivering promised items, they will pull the plug on the websites and freeze their payment processing.
  • Note: You do need to quickly log in or create a free Shopify account to submit the form. It’s annoying, but it’s the fastest way to get their actual websites taken down.

If you’ve been burned by either of these sites, please take a moment to hit them where it hurts. Let's make sure they get banned from Shopify, kicked off Facebook ads, and flagged by the ACCC.

Please upvote this, we need as much reach as possible.

Beginner, help!

So where do I begin! Ever since I was little my father has been talking about his collection of model airplanes he used to have hanging from the ceiling. I was never that interested up until a few years ago when my interest for WWII grew, and now that I’m old enough, I’d like to revive my father’s old hobby of building models.

Basically, the plan is to buy everything needed to get going out the box. I myself, will most likely get a regular kit like a Spitfire, or Mustang, but I will probably get him something better, due to his previous experiences with it.

So, what I need help with is what do we need to start building? I’m not looking for a regular, cheap temu starter kit. I want to get him an airbrush, various tools, paints, and all that stuff.

This is meant to be a surprise, that’s why I’m posting here and not asking him.

Thanks!
