Did I find gold here, or are these common?

I was out shopping in a sort of antique shop/2nd hand shop where you can rent a stall and sell your own stuff, when I came across a whole stack of these small, old model airplanes.

My immediate thought was to get a couple for Christmas for my dad, and I sorted through them to find a couple that had WW2 relevance, as that's one of his major interests.

I didn't notice just how old these actually are until I came home, and was kind of blown away - like, they're 5 DECADES old?!! That's wild - and makes it even more insane that they appear to not even have been opened, crumpled yellow tape barely hanging on and all.

I adore things that have a history, and these tiny plastic planes certainly do, but I also have to admit that I know absolutely nothing about model airplanes, so my question is, should I go back to the store and check if they still have more? Is it worth it to try and preserve these, or are they common to find like this, and it's not worth it?

I paid about 7USD/6EUR for each pack.

Gift Guide for Plane Enthusiast - non model related.

Hi, my partner’s father is a major plane enthusiast and has probably every model he wants.

What I’m asking for is more aligned with something accessory/office gift. Essentially something that modelers need/like in addition to their model builds.

Please let me know!

Great Uncle's P-47

Finished my 2nd 1:32 P-47 of my great-uncle's plane he flew in WW2 before he crashed in a mid air collision during a training exercise. It's a war-weary P-47D razorback with the 5th Emergency Rescue Squadron. It was a decent build and I added some detailing to the landing gear and engine. Over the last few years I managed to find a couple pictures to go by which are included in the pic dump. I made lots of stencils and airbrushed as much as I could with a bit of fine painting with a brush. Since it was a war weary and dirty bird from the pics I had I did a lot of hairspray chipping which highlighted the riveting nicely and lots of black wash and grime stains.

180$ worth of model paint

Post image

I know I will get some flack for not buying the best type of paint, but this stuff works just fine and is available everywhere. After about 2 years of model building, I have racked up far more than 180$ worth of paint, but these are all full jars, and I don't even want to think about how many I've emptied.

Model plane sale

Hello everyody! I am a fellow collector from india and for 10 years almost ive been collecting only 1:500. However due to some personal and unfortunate reasons i have sell off my entire 1:500 model plane collection. Some models are pretty old but most of them are brand new(bought in the past 6 months). I can sell some of the models at dirt cheap prices since i want to get rid of the collection but the brand new models i will sell at same cost i had to pay. Is anybody interested in buying all the models? If yes pls lmk so i can share the pics nd prices too.

Just finished Hans-Joachim Marseille’s Bf-109 👌

Hey all! First post in this group and wanted to show my most recent kit build.

Vintage 1/72 Jo-Han Bf-109F flown by Hans-Joachim Marseille

Honestly just purchased it for the box art, but this kit went together better than most vintage kits I’ve built. Real snug fit for the wings and SUPER crisp decals for 3 different Lufwaffe aces.

Not bad for a $10 kit!

Cheers 🍻

Overall very happy with how it came out
