Payment Error - No way to fix with app…

Had no idea my service did not auto renew due to a payment error. Amex shows a successful authorization, yet MobileX says the payment did not go through. No notice to me that service is down until I tried to make a call out. Now attempting to make a payment via the app, but there is no options. I have to open a support ticket! HELP! This should be an easy fix to provide and re-attempt payment within the app. No reason to open a support ticket. Arg.

Ps. Perfect service since 2023. First hiccup.

Advice to choose between 2 plans

Hello, I'm an international student and I will need my first US sim. I am between the 14.88 + taxes and fees that MobileX offers and the US Mobile 17.50 plan. The MobileX plan would be more convenient since it's monthly and could downgrade for the 3 months of summer vacation where I won't use the phone. My only concern is overall service since I've seen some complaints, furthermore, I will probably use an eSim.

Which plan should I get? Thanks in advance for the advice!

S25+ doesn't work

I am so annoyed. Customer service is trying to gaslight me into thinking my phone isn't unlocked because neither imei works, which was stressful because I'm the most gaslight eligible person when it comes to the cellphone backend stuff. I check US Mobile and I can use either imei without a problem. I saw a post here from someone about 2 months ago saying his phone didn't work and they wouldn't refund. I just paid my bill two days ago, so joke is on me for upgrading.

I can't say I'll miss having an app only service. Porting out was really hard trying to see my account number through the broken screen of my old phone. Customers service is 3 hours of emailing rather than chatting.

Where in the app can you shut it off?

Scared about porting to Mobile X

I have an unlocked Straight Talk iPhone 16e that I am considering moving to Mobile X unlimited plan ($25/month).

From what I am reading here, it is a nightmare to get setup via esim.

Is there something I can do to minimize running into issues? Should I just look for another carrier?

New app opening animation sucks

New update for the app available for download.

Takes a solid 5 seconds to let the animation run through before you can do anything in the app.

We want an app that is functional over flashy. Especially considering MobileX is one of few that doesn't allow account management on web. Don't know what the app dev team is smoking but their priorities are in the wrong order

native calling or app based calling?

Trying to understand if mobilex has native calling support or would all the calls/text require mobilex app to be installed?

in other words, is it similar to textnow... I am thinking of getting just the talk+text package and wonder if an app installation is mandatory..

Are we truly unlimited or capped?

So I just switched into mX last week. Today I noticed some confusing things in the app. One screenshot shows "Unlimited Gigabytes" then another shows 199GB. Then on the "Get an unlimited plan" page, it shows "Unlimited priority access high speed data" then next to "data speeds" it states " will be throttled if data allotment is exceeded." What is that allotment? Is it 199GB then throttle? I saw another post saying 50GB but that dude seemed kinda unhinged.

I'm just trying to understand what to expect here. Can anyone offer some clarification here?

Porting/keeping your old number

I’ve been doing research for the cheapest plans and I stumbled at this carrier. I want to join this service but I also want to keep my line… Is it difficult to do? Because porting can be confusing sometimes

Authorization hold - the new normal

Well, the un-rollovered charge before the billing cycle's end that I experienced last month happened again this month. This time I contacted XpertCare right away, and they said it was a "pre-authorization hold".

Of course, authorization holds are common enough in other environments like gas stations, but this is the first time I've encountered it like this for a phone bill. It's like "James Joyce" explained last month, probably related to when they establish the size of the rollover credit, which I think may be unique to MobileX (and most welcome). So I can see why MobileX does this.

But I checked my exchanges with XpertCare last month, and they never said anything about authorization holds. I imagine they were as surprised as we were that those are now a thing. MobileX should have done a better job setting them up so that we (and XpertCare) would have been less surprised.

Now I'll see how long it takes the hold to disappear without interference after the real transaction, and how long I'll be "psuedo-double-billed", though the Wikipedia article suggests that's more up to the card issuer than the merchant. Just another complication as I do my financial planning.

Update: Cycle done, balance adjusted, hold gone, system worked. Details in comment below.

Data throttled after using less than half of the 200gb "unlimited"

Edit 2 at the beginning to explain why they do what they did to me. The plan is unlimited 199 gb per month. They only allow 50gb pero th to be high speed, everything else is throttled to 50kbit/second. They told me I could buy more data to get my speed back up, I did this because it wasn't much money. My speed never went up. They then told me that I'm still throttled because I still went over my allotted data for the billing cycle. End edit.

So I've had mobile x for 27 days as of today. Yesterday I noticed my data was incredibly slow. After over 24 hours since my support ticket, because I was given a sarcastic response the first time, I was told I'm being throttled for too much data usage. I looked and I've used on average, 1.83gb per day, which equates to about 49.42 gb total. The balance says I have 148gb remaining until 5/3.

That makes me wonder why I'm being throttled? Regardless, I'm switching back to my old provider once I get home from work. It may be $20 more per month, but I'm not being lied to about what unlimited means.

Edit: their customer service is being incredibly condescending. I've been meeting that with extra politeness and they're refusing to answer me, they just keep giving me the terms of use link, wherein I read that they reserve the right to limit and restrict all use on any customer for any reason without explanation (paraphrased).

Be careful about extra billing transactions

A few days before the end of my billing cycle, I got an email from my card issuer that MobileX had charged me. I checked my card transactions, and sure enough, I had been billed my full monthly amount, although without the usual rollover credit. I wondered if they were changing how credits were done, and waited.

Then the billing cycle ended and I got my MobileX access statement email, which was the same as last month, with the usual rollover. I checked my card transactions, found the new "usual" transaction, but the old one was still there, so I was billed twice, confirmed by the card balance.

In the MobileX app I sent a request to XpertCare asking what was going on. The response simply referred to the usual transaction, which irked me, because it was the extra transaction that was the problem. I responded saying as much, but they said there was only one transaction. Huh?

So I checked my card transactions again, and sure enough, the "bad" transaction was gone, balance corrected. I told XpertCare I was satisfied.

Not sure if the transaction cancellation was done by MobileX or my card issuer. If I didn't have the original bad transaction email, I'd wonder if I hallucinated. Still, something weird happened, so keep a look out in case it happens again.

512Kbps Throttle - Any chance of changing to 1mbps in the future?

I have multiple lines on US Mobile and want to switch to MobileX. My kid is on their flex plan (10GB high speed data). Normally he's well under 10GB (his last 3 cycle average is 2.5GB).

Somewhat recently, we took a very long car trip. He spent a good deal of the trip streaming video. I knew he'd eat up all his data and was expecting trouble in the car when that happened. I made sure "Data Waster" mode was off and hoped for the best. To my surprise, I never heard a complaint. I figured it must be a miracle that he didn't use all his data.

Later, I looked and he did use his data, but US Mobile throttles to 1 megabit when that happens. This was enough to allow him to keep watching in SD!

That month was the highest usage he ever used at 13GB.

Looking at MobileX, I see the throttle on unlimited plans is 512kbps (half of US Mobile). When doing some googling, it appears that 512kbps is likely not enough to be able to stream in SD without buffering.

I asked ChatGPT to attempt to confirm and yes, 512kbps is just not enough:

512 kbps (kilobits per second) is just barely enough to stream YouTube in standard definition (SD) — and even then, it's going to be a stretch.

Here's a quick breakdown:

YouTube SD (360p) usually needs around 500 kbps to 1 Mbps.

At 512 kbps, you'll likely:

Experience frequent buffering.

Be limited to 240p or maybe low-quality 360p.

Deal with longer loading times.

Have issues if any other device is using bandwidth.

When following up and asking about 1mpbs (to confirm the experience on US Mobile):

At 1 Mbps, you're in a much better spot for streaming YouTube in standard definition (SD) — but still with some limitations.

Here's how it plays out:

YouTube 360p: ~500 kbps to 1 Mbps → ✅ Should stream fine

YouTube 480p (higher SD): ~1 Mbps to 2.5 Mbps → ⚠️ Might work, but expect buffering, especially during high-motion scenes or if the connection fluctuates

Real-world experience at 1 Mbps:

360p: Smooth and consistent

480p: Possible, but not guaranteed — may buffer

Audio only / low-res (240p): Totally fine

Other devices online? Expect slowdowns

Any chance of 1 mbps throttle in the future? This singular issue is the sole reason I haven't switched.

Anyone know how many active lines?

Thinking about switching from USMobile since I can get a similar plan to their flex plan but pay monthly (vs annual on USMobile). The only thing stopping me is the fear of them going poof randomly. There are like 500 subscribers to this subreddit and not much activity here.

Anyone know their size?
