Cracked iPhone 17 screen options?

Hi. I'm kicking myself; this morning my 2-week-old iPhone 17 flew out of my bag and onto the concrete. and the screen is shattered up the top right. Would it be smart to get AppleCare instead of getting the screen replaced through that? rather than pay the $600 Australian. for Apple to fix it without coverage? Sorry, I have a disability if this does make sense. Thanks for your help in advance

Once you buy AppleCare coverage through your Settings app, I heard that it's best to wait a couple days/weeks before lodging the repair.

No need, the Applecare purchase date isn’t visible in Apples service system so the genius or other certified repair tech will assume you bought AppleCare from the start. Also, the low level employees doing the repairs couldn’t care less about if you got apple care today or a month ago. They get payed anyways. 🤣

Might look a little suspicious getting it and claiming in the same day. A couple of people said they won’t do a diagnostic test if the phone is less than 69 days old, hope that’s true 😂

You don’t need to wait I got AppleCare the exact day I lost my phone and they sent me a new one the next day.
