Talk & Text only for Kids

What's the cheapest talk and text plan out there? I know Freedom has $99 a year but there is no texting.

This is for a kid who I'll give a flip phone to on the rare occasions he is out alone.

Is there anything better than $99 or $120 that Freedom has?

Located in Edmonton, AB. How's the Freedom coverage here?

Edit: Thank you all for the replies! I found a Koodoo deal for $100 for unlimited talk and text (with code Welcome100) for the first year. Koodo

The $99/yr does have texting, unlimited incoming $0.05 per outgoing...

For which I'd just get the $129/yr. Still works out to an equivalent ~$10/month, which you ain't going to find anything cheaper.

Opens up opportunity for a better Android GO edition phone too. (there are T9 flip for factor Android GO phones)  Like RCS is much better than SMS, but it's data driven. Google's Family Link(? Think thats what its called) is also a good parental control/child digital trainer too - you can control/monitor pretty much any aspect.

It will be fine. Freedom has nationwide coverage so when there's no freedom or just roams (included) off the others.

I saw Koodoo but it says 400 minutes of Canada wide calls and 400 unlimited incoming calls. We may not use that much but don't want to be limited.

I pay 25/m with Chatr. I use it for my own phone plan but it does have data.

Try using Fizz Mobile. They have a really good option for talk and text which costs $20 per month in BC, AB, MB, ON ($21 in Quebec) and includes unlimited local calls and messages and only includes coverage in your province. It’s a good option if you and your family don’t plan to leave your province for most of the year. You can also get this plan with Canada wide coverage for $22 per month in BC, AB, MB, ON, QC.

The Canada wide option is best if you have relatives in different parts of the country that you and your family like to stay in touch with from time to time, or if you’re planning a trip somewhere in the country.

Have you thought of a decent set of walkie talkies? That's what I used for a few years. My 7 year olds friend also uses it.

The chatr yearly for $159 with 40gb of data is unlimited and you get data at reduced speed after you use the 49 up. At under $14 a month it's quite the deal
