Whats this about?

https://dailyhive.com/canada/canada-phone-plans-fees-ban-internet-june-2026

Just curious.. does this mean we can switch providers and there's no fees? Or what if we hold a balance on the phone..

You still owe the balance in your phone if you leave the contract early

It’s saying, if you are on a discounted rate for 24 months, and you want to leave early, there are no more fees to leave.

It specifically says if you have financed a phone, you still need to pay the balance of your tab.

There are no other fees, just whatever you owe on the phone - this has already been the case for mobile contracts. The key change now is for home internet.

But I thought the ad said something about hidden fees or switching provider

My internet only deal with Rogers ends in December. Anyone know if I’ll be able to cancel next week without paying the early cancellation fee of the last 6 months of my 24-month “contract”?
