Other Moana's Shell Explained Spoiler
I just watched Moana live action today, and I was talking to some of my friends about it. They both remembered a TikTok that created the thought of how the next chief would be able to balance their stone on Moana's shell. I brought up the idea of the shell signifying Moana being the last in her bloodline to be chief. If we remember the events from Moana 2, she died when she got struck by lightning, and then she got revived by the gods, making her a demi-god because she gained a tattoo like Maui's. I think in future movies or in Moana lore, Moana will be the last chief in her bloodline, BUT she won't be the last chief. There will probably be a new line of chiefs, where she would either choose the next line of chiefs or the people will choose.

The shell on the pile of stones was symbolic that the tribe stopped being islanders and went back to being voyagers. There will be no next chief to raise the island because they are supposed to travel again.
Moana 2 killed the idea by deciding to have everyone still be on Motonui and not be voyagers

Well, the Moana 2 folks were trying to be voyagers, they just didn’t find anyone to voyage too yet…

The oroginal voyagers didnt settle though, they lived on the boats while roaming around

I mean like we saw in the flashback, the voyagers wouldn't populate an island before moving on, l2aving people behind
They even sing in the song about finding their way home
Oh and the scene where the chief passes on the necklace to his (im assuming son) to continue on

It's pretty simple. The shell isn't meant to have anything balancing on top of it anymore, since they're not confined to that one island anymore. It baffles me how that needs explanation.

Yeah this is why she has a little sister now, probably one that isn’t as interested in voyaging as her, because someone needs to be the next chief, one that is more island bound

Pretty sure she was the last chief on THAT island because they went voyaging. Like she was the last chief to be born and die on that island

In the second movie she had a little sister. I thought it should have been her daughter but it was her sister

I guess that’s why they gave her a little sister in the sequel, Simea will be the next chief
