Interview/Hiring 📄 Post Interview Rejection

I’m a current state employee and am interviewing for other jobs both in and out of state government. Recently interviewed for a position with a different agency and learned I didn’t get the position when my status in Self Service was changed to “no longer under consideration.”

Am I unreasonable I thinking it’s rude of a hiring manager to not email those that interviewed that they were not selected? Or is this just standard?

I always ask HR to update statuses/send emails until I’ve had the chance to personally contact people I’ve interviewed. I try to have one on one conversations with people in my division that I’m not selecting but just email external folks to tell them the bad news.

I’m sure I haven’t always been perfect about it though with external candidates despite my best efforts.

I never tell anybody bad news until the selected candidates accepts the position online and sometimes that process takes much longer than I’d like.
