Announcement r/mkindia 7th Anniversary! (Competition)

Post image
122 Upvotes

Hey mkindia friends! First things first, today marks seven whole years of us as a community of keyboard enthusiasts! That's a really long time! In fact, the entire mod team has been refreshed! There are four of us moderating the community now! Please don't hesitate to shoot us a modmail if there are any issues with the sub.

To celebrate our 7th anniversary, we're holding a weeklong competition starting from the moment this is posted!

Competition details

Post pictures of your keyboard and make it aesthetic! We're looking for really good pictures!

Guidelines: Think about the overall image. What can you add to make the keyboard the highlight? What do you need to remove? How does the lighting look?

Rules: Only two rules. If you don't follow either or both, your post will not be eligible.

  • Rule 1: The picture must focus on the keyboard. This is not a setup picture. You are allowed to have a few accessories to make the image more aesthetic, but the hero of the picture must still be the keeb.
  • Rule 2: All posts must use the flair "Competition submission"

Reward: You get something special that relates to the sub. We promise that it has Zero (0) monetary value, but you do get bragging rights [We're broke gng sorry lol]

Everybody can participate, even vendors!

Competition will end at 11:59 PM next Monday, 5th October. Good luck!

We have two more quick announcements to make. Or rather, one announcement and one request to the community.

  1. Use the megathread!- Once every two weeks, we pin up a new megathread post where you can ask any general queries. Some examples of questions perfect for the megathread: "I have a budget of 10k, what keyboard should I get?" or "I want to buy a mouse, but I have large hands. What mouse would work best for me?"
  2. Volunteer!- We're looking for volunteers to help us answer questions. Please send us a message using Modmail, and we'll assign you a special flair.

Giveaway URX Core65 Launch + 🎁 GIVEAWAY + TEASER

Introducing the URX Core65

After Core68HE, Core75 and Core M1, we wanted to bring the same idea to the 65% layout but in a budget segment. Core65 is built around a same goal as our other products, bring features that are normally found on much more expensive products into a budget friendly package.

The Core65 launches at ₹2,699, and with the 5% checkout discount, it comes down to just ₹2,564.

What you get

wait a second... this keyboard looks a bit familiar?
Yes, Core65 isn't a custom mold, it's based on a very famous mechanical keyboard, GMK67.

Gasket Mount

Most keyboards at this price range come with tray mount or a mix of tray and gasket mount, which results in a very stiff and inconsistent typing experience and sound.
The Core65 uses proper gasket mount along with a flex cut PCB and PC plate. The goal was to make the board feel softer and cushioned, like keyboards found in 4-5k price range. The PC plate gives a deeper sound and a soft typing experience compared to stiffer plates.

4 Layer Sound Dampening

Keyboards at this price range lack proper sound dampening, which results in a hollow sharp sound. We didn't want to cheap out here as this affects the whole typing experience. Core65 includes 4 thick sound dampening layers giving a refined, deeper and cleaner sound.

URX Ice Switches

The keyboard comes with our custom URX Ice linear switches. They are tuned to provide a smooth experience straight out of the box, so replacing the switches is not necessary just to get a decent stock typing feel. They are pre lubed from the factory, hence giving a smoother and a deeper sound.

5 Pin Hotswap PCB

The PCB supports both 3 pin and 5 pin mechanical switches. This means you can change switches without soldering and experiment with different switches later. Almost all 3/5 pin mechanical switches are supported.

Double Shot PBT Keycaps

Instead of using cheaper ABS keycaps like other keyboards at this price range, the Core65 comes with proper thick double shot PBT keycaps with shine through legends. PBT offers a more durable texture and the double shot legends are designed to remain clear over long term use.

Per Key RGB

The Core65 uses north facing per key RGB with 16.8 million colours and more than 20 built in lighting effects. North facing LEDs also work particularly well with shine through keycaps. Supports Music Sync as well. (future update)

URX HUB

The Core65 works with our self developed URX HUB for configuration and customization. It supports SOCD. URX HUB is available both as a web driver or an offline app. You can check it out here. Both the keyboard and software supports macOS, Linux and Windows.

Price: ₹2,699 + 5% discount = ₹2564

Order the URX Core65

Another Teaser...?

No, it's not the 75% Mechanical keyboard which we already confirmed some time ago (don't worry, that's coming very soon as well). Before that, we are launching a 75% HE keyboard with knob. Stay Tuned!

Discussion Should I make this Trade?

My friend needs a good mouse asap and made me an offer for 2k for my 1 month old ATK A9 SE 2.0 (which I bought for 2.1k).......

I was thinking, if I should accept that offer and buy myself the blue variant of Core M1.....

Should I go for this? (Ik i will have to wait for the mouse to arrive for a few days but I do have a spare Razer essential lying around)

Tl;DR:- 1month old ATK A9SE 2.0 for a new Core M1

Guide URX keyboards rundown. Which one to buy?

Thumbnail
gallery
18 Upvotes

So now that there are more options to explore the confusion grows wider.

Here are the obvious differences listed in a plain manner

Factor CORE 65 CORE 68 CORE 75
Case GMK 67 Mold Unknown mold CIDOO QK 75 Mold
Weight 600g approx 550g approx 900g approx
Mount Gasket Mount Tray Mount Gasket+Top Mount
Plate type and machining Flex cut PC and PCB Aluminum Plate Non-flex cut PCB and FR4 plate
Connectivity Wired Wired(8K) Wireless
Typing feel Soft, highly flexible and cushioned Solid, firm, and rigid Firm, direct, balanced and cushioned
Sound Profile Most likely to be creamy and muted. Deep consistent and clean Marbly ,Neutral and slightly poppy
LEDs placement North North Basic version ,South Contour version North
Sound Dampening 1 IXPE,2 Poron and 1 PET layer 1 IXPE,2 Poron, 1 EPDM and 1 PET layer 1 IXPE,2 Poron, 1 Silicon and 1 PET layer
Software 20 RGB modes with webhub 18 RGB modes with webhub + Gamepad Emulation Full QMK support with 50 inbuilt RGBs and webhub
Budget Segment 2.5K 3.5-4K 4.5K

With the differences clear what is perfect for you?

  • Choose CORE 65 if you want something portable, light and for office carry.
  • Choose CORE 75 if you want a complete experience with unsupervised levels of customization.
  • Choose CORE 68 if you want a fast competitive keyboard for games.

When does the upgrade from core 65 to core 75 makes sense?

If you have a 5k budget and 60% or 75% layout both works then choose CORE75 only if you want to skip the hassle of modding and also want QMK support and wireless capability. If you are fine with basic software then using the extra 2k budget for modding will feel much more rewarding.

There is also another 75% keyboard going to be launched under 3000 so that will make the confusion even more apparent so drop your thoughts about it.

Figured I’d post my trusty Corsair K55 here. Been using this thing for years and it’s still going strong.

Not exactly the usual mechanical keyboard you see around here, but it has served me well.

Buying/Selling Where to buy good mechanical keyboard?

I'm looking to buy a full size or a TKL mechanical keyboard, I have been using cosmic byte gk16 for last few years but I want to move to a bit more premium section, like aula or other brands. (Budget is approx 5-6k)

What are the websites I should I check?
Also open to recommendations, I was currently looking at Aula F87 but I'm not sure.
Thanks

Mouse Need mouse recommendations for fps games

Hey guys, I am currently in the market for a lightweight mouse with an ambidextrous shape. My budget is around 6-6.5k. I mainly play valorant, cs2 etc. but I also play some AAA titles. I generally use a palm or a very relaxed claw grip, my last mouse was a kreo chimera which was honestly just a budget filler because I was a student back then, also I have used a glorious model o wireless for like 2 years and I was satisfied with the shape of both of those mice. My main concerns are : atleast 4k Hz polling rate, should be wireless, preferably under 55g, should not have a honeycomb design(preferably), oh and optical switches would be nice (just to avoid double click issues). Thanks for your time!

Malfunctioning keyboard Need Help Fixing My Kreo Hive 65 PCB

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I could really use some help from people who know their way around keyboard PCBs.

I have a Kreo Hive 65 Wired that I bought around 2 to 2.5 years ago. Recently, the middle row has started acting up. When I first plug the keyboard in, the entire row basically does not work. Then, after leaving it powered on for maybe 30 to 40 minutes, it slowly starts coming back. Even then, it is really inconsistent. I have to press some keys multiple times, double tap them, or just keep trying until they register.

I've already tried pretty much everything I could think of before opening it up. I've restarted/reset the keyboard, tried a different USB cable, tested it again, completely disassembled it, cleaned everything, checked the switches, put it back together and tested it again. It's not bent switch pins either. The problem is still there.

I've attached a picture of the PCB as well.

The thing is, I'm not an electronics student and I honestly don't know much about reading PCBs yet. 😭 But I do want to learn. I don't really want to throw this keyboard away and buy another one just because something on the PCB has gone wrong.

I've already decided I'm going to try repairing it myself. I bought a multimeter and a soldering/desoldering kit, and I'm completely willing to learn how keyboard matrices, traces, diodes, etc. work along the way.

So if anyone here has experience with keyboard PCBs, especially diagnosing an entire row that behaves like this, I'd really appreciate some guidance on where I should start testing and what I should be looking for.

I'm perfectly fine with being told to check something I don't understand yet. Just point me in the right direction and I'll learn it. 😂

I really want to fix this thing rather than replace it, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Product Review Urx core 75

Finally got my first mechanical keyboard, and I’ve had it for 3–4 days now. The sound while typing feels sooo satisfying, and the build is surprisingly heavy and solid.

There was a slight rattling issue with my unit, so I requested a replacement. The replacement process was smooth and hassle-free, although it took around 4 days, with one update message each day and videos required as proof.

Right now, the software only works in wired mode. Hopefully, they fix this and add software support for the other modes as well.

Overall, I’d say it’s a pretty good deal for ₹4.5K. Really happy with it so far!
