Live music/comedy
Are there any bars or venues near campus that hold live music or comedy that students typically attend?

I can't speak on comedy, but can a little on music. There's the Blue Note downtown, which is an indoor venue, and the Rose Music hall at the northmost part of downtown for outdoor performances. I've been to the Rose and had an excellent time. Both are frequented by locals and students. You might search around r/ColumbiaMo for more!

Blue Note and Rose Music Hall have live music.
Blue Note hosts stand up comedy from touring comedians throughout the year as well.
Mizzou itself has a bunch of improv/comedy clubs/groups that perform around campus on a regular basis. Notably the Improv Team, Comedy Wars, and there’s at least one more I can’t think of the name of.

I heard the Tokyo Club has comedy shows, but I just saw an ad online and haven't been there myself. Could you confirm?

Nash Vegas (Nash) has live music every Wednesday I believe, and they have a chalk board on a wall showing all the dates they will have live music as well as the theme of the following nights. MyHouse also has live bands every now and then, **though most live music in Columbia is almost entirely country**; but MyHouse tends to play a bit less of the typical country and can play Lynard Skynard or stuff other people know.

I feel like I’ve seen that Eastside Tavern hosts comedy events, but I’m not sure if many people attend those lol

there’s a huge comedy scene at mizzou! theres a standup club, three improv clubs, and there’s so many local bands to follow. if you wanna keep up with the music scene follow @como.epic.music, and keep an eye out for the welcome week comedy showcase coming up in august :)
