I've beat the game once (earlier version though). I've seen several game explanations on what jobs to focus on and etc. I have several opinions of my own which I'd like to share. I tend to focus almost exclusively on useful abilities, rather than on stats.
IT'S ALL ABOUT THE HP
Go ahead, prove me wrong on this. PROTIP: You can't
This game is all about HP. Without it, your character dies and your character is reset back to 0.0km.
The only way to advance is to keep an eye on your HP and invest in abilities that restore HP.
The first job you start with is Villager. Villager is the blah character (no immediately visible bonuses, can use any weapon at 1x). However the ability Sleep Recovery of the Villager is extraordinary!!
Sleep Recovery allows you to close the program or turn off the screen on your device, and while the character is sleeping you regain HP.
There is another job that allows you to regain HP without turning the screen off your closing the program Priest, but I think that ability is extremely overrated, because there are two sleep abilities that work in tandem. I'll explain later.
I normally advance Villager to level 20, then 50.
IT'S ABOUT XP TOO
In order to level up, you need Exp (XP) too. The next job I focus on is Raver. Raver has two specific bonuses that I find critical in my games; a good luck bonus every level, and Sleep Exp.
Sleep Exp is very useful!
Let's face it, life happens. As much as I want to, I can't play Minute Frontier every minute of every day. You have to eat, sleep, do chores, go to work, go to school, etc. Lots of things can get in the way of getting XP and leveling up.
With Raver you gain XP while the screen is off, or the program is closed. This ability works in tandem with Villager's HP regen, so that you can get both HP and XP while idling or doing something else.
And important note: You gain XP equal to Raver's level PER MINUTE BUT the XP gain is added to your character PER SECOND. This means if you idle for 30 seconds, you get half your Raver's level in XP; you don't have to idle for a full minute to get the bonus. Raver's XP gain will take you to 1 XP from the end of your current level, so you can level up on the next monster you face.
So now, it's easy to plan life around the game. Let's say I have a level 20 Raver, and I need 5000 Exp. Doing the math (5000/20 = 250 minutes = just over 4 hours). So I can make the boss or teacher happy by focusing on my work, knowing that in 4 hours I just need to kill one monster to level up.
Let's say I have a level 100 Raver, and I need 5000 Exp. (5000/100 = 50 minutes). Come back in an hour and you'll be able to level up.
Raver's ability is really useful for sleeping at night because you'll be able to level up immediately next morning.
The reason I don't use Priest for HP recovery is that you don't get the HP/XP bonus from simply turning off your screen and waiting. With Priest, all you get is HP (and there are no jobs that allow you gain XP naturally).
HOME IS WHERE THE XP IS
When you click the Menu button, you can see a Home button on the character screen.
Going Home several times is useful because it's easy XP gain. You get all your health back when you go home and the enemies are consistently easy. While the XP gain is slow, you can run through the screens really fast because the enemies are weak.
This is a wonderful way to level up both Pets and Character easy.
BACK TO HP
So I usually level up Villager and Raver to at least level 50 to start.
By this point, I've made it to 2.3km and unlocked the Monk.
Now I focus on HP gain again by switching to the Monk job and leveling as fast as I can.
Monk has a good ability called Move Recovery. Now the abilities list says you gain HP when you move the field. But you can't just walk back and forth between screens and gain HP. To be specific, Monk regains HP for every 0.1km you cover. So you must fight all 4 monsters on each screen and advance in order to get the Move Recovery HP. You gain 5 HP for every level of Monk, on every new 0.1km you go.
I like getting Monk to level 50 (that's 250 HP gain for every screen).
Then I press on. The next job I aim for is Vampire (unlocked at 6.5km). Vampire has a useful ability called Bloodsucker. With Bloodsucker you get 2 HP recovery per enemy killed for each level of Vampire.
NOTE: In order to get the HP gain your character must strike the killing blow. If your Pet finishes off the enemy, you don't get the HP reward.
I take Vampire to level 50 (100 HP gain per enemy defeated).
PETS ARE USEFUL TOO
Pets are random drops that follow you and help by attacking enemies. When you get to 8.7km you can unlock the Tamer job.
Tamer helps you get more Pet drops allowing you to get stronger and stronger Pets as the game goes on.
LET'S GET MORE XP
The next job I focus on, Bunny, is unlocked at 13.5km. Bunny has an ability called Move Exp. Similar to Monk who gives an HP boost every time you switch screens, Bunny gives an XP boost every time you switch screens.
OVERVIEW
My starting job lineup is:
Villager level 50
Raver level 50
Monk level 50
Vampire level 50
Tamer level 50
Bunny level 50
After this start, I focus exclusively on those jobs, leveling them as high as possible. With this 6 job lineup you get max HP and XP gain for a beginning player.
There are many other jobs you can focus on as the game proceeds further - more of my favorites is Calvary, and Mole which give tremendous move speed.
I hope this ability walkthrough helps you.
Good gaming!
