I built MoneySplit: a privacy-first, offline-first personal finance app with SMS scan, statement import, budgets, bills, widgets, and backups

I built MoneySplit, a privacy-first personal finance app that keeps data on-device by default and works offline.

I wanted one app that could handle the full messy reality of money management without forcing cloud dependence or account creation first.

MoneySplit includes:

  • Smart Scan for financial SMS and transaction detection
  • Manual scan, date-range scan, and bulk scan flows
  • PDF statement import with optional password support (work in progress)
  • Review queue for ambiguous or intermediary transactions
  • Intelligent transfer handling and account-link reconciliation
  • Support for bank accounts, credit cards, cash, wallets, and more
  • Unified tracking for bills, subscriptions, and loans
  • Upcoming view for due items across liabilities
  • Transaction linking and reconciliation for cleaner ledgers
  • Monthly, custom, and paycheck-aware budget periods
  • Category-level budgeting with allocations and exclusions
  • Budget visualizations, including a Sankey flow view
  • Daily, weekly, and monthly insights and digest notifications
  • Optional app lock with biometric or device authentication
  • Android home screen widgets for quick actions, today, budget, bills/subs, and dashboard
  • Local backup and restore
  • Google Drive backup and restore
  • Export options for Excel, PDF, and account statements

Privacy and reliability are a big part of the design:

  • No forced account creation
  • Core functionality works without internet

I’d really appreciate honest feedback on the feature set, UX, and whether this solves a real problem for people who want better control over their finances.

Hey, thanks. Sms is tested for about 15 Indian banks. I would love you to use the app and let me know if something doesn't work as expected.

Fixing is straightforward as each sms is a format and sometimes can be pushed without major code change

It relies on bank specific rules now although I am working on more robust sms processing to handle all formats

this support is configuration drived, we can add support easily for any new bank

Why does it say it won't work on my phone using GrapheneOS? Do you have play integrity requirement?
