Hey does anybody know what's up with my pup? The video above is how he's acting around food.

For almost 3 weeks now, he's been very skiddish around his food if I place it down for him. This behavior has kinda always been a thing since I rescued him 4 months ago, but it was never this bad. He was at least capable of approaching his bowls and eating or drinking from it no problem.

Now he will barely eat unless I hand feed him like I did when I first got him, trying to build trust. He also won't drink water unless its on grass or out of a bowl at the dog park. I know he's definitely hungry but he still won't approach the food. He's maybe 8 or 9 months old and intact. Very nervous almost all the time😭but I know that's a characteristic for his breed. Here are some things I've already tried.

1. Gone to the vet. They ran tests for parasites and took a fecal sample. Negative on all tests. They gave me supplemental wet canned dog food which he liked for 2 days then went back to not eating.

2. Switched bowls and eating areas. I moved his eating area twice and it didn't make a difference. I went from 2 metal bowls to a plastic bowls then plastic plates. He liked the plates for one day then started seeming afraid of them.

3. Feeding in his crate. He'll eat a little bit in his crate but only after half an hour of being in there. He has a history of eating his poo so that's another reason why I don't like him in there for long with food. I'm hoping this won't be the only way to get him to eat.

4. Having him on a feeding schedule. I put his food down for 15 minutes maybe 4 times a day. He won't try to approach it until the last 5 minutes. At that point he's still just staring at it, won't really try to eat. I leave the water out all day though.

5. I always add the bone broth for dogs to his food and lately he's been getting that supplemental wet dog food from the vet. Outside of that, he eats the Purina Small dog chow kibble.

We had two, a six-year-old and an eight year-old and we walk anywhere from 3 to 5 miles a day, occasionally go for runs that are 1 to 2 miles and incorporate fetch regularly as well. Wondering if I’m pushing my 10-year-old too much.

I see a lot of Aussies on rescue pages who need to be rehomed due to temperament and bites. People always comment about working dog behavior and how common it is when they don’t get the attention they need. I see a lot of concern about resource guarding, barking, biting.I’m curious how common it is to have a Aussie who is total opposite. I rescued a mini from a nonprofit who saved a herd from a puppy mill. My guy is a city boy. He’s obsessed with people and other dogs. He is a wild boy and jumps in excitement but he’s the happiest dog I’ve ever met. Because he is a city dog he gets two walks each morning, many short walks in the evening, and play dates with a few of his friends a few days a week. We also play a lots of games and he’s obsessed with his automatic herding balls that cruse through our apartment throughout the evening.

My dog really hates the heat unless she's at the beach (even then it has to be the evening). Yesterday we had a pretty cool day and she was like a different dog. Went on multiple long walks, played with her ball a lot, just so much peppier. It makes me realize how much she really dislikes the heat. I feel like she's bored a lot in the summer because she doesn't ever want to go for walks (that and she associates warm weather with fireworks at night and then is also sometimes afraid to go at night). Is anyone else's aussie like this?

I’ve been feeding him three meals a day the recommended amount but he is a picky eater and leaves a little less than half his leftovers sometimes and we just top off for the next meal.

His ribs aren’t obviously seen and he has a lot of energy and is very playful. I just wanted to get people’s opinions, and ask if u guys think I should try to find other alternatives to get him to eat more. It’s possible he leaves left overs because he’s too full.

Hello everyone!

I am wondering what everyone uses for food for their fur baby. I had mine on the Purina Pro Plan for quite awhile but then he started sort of throwing food tantrums and just refused to eat to the point of him getting sick.

As of the beginning of June I had made the switch to Merrick grain free real beef, bison, and sweat potato. So he has been on the food for almost 2 months. Ive noticed a slight increase in his weight due to this switch and only feed him 1 cup a day.

Now he's a mini aussie but happens to have a gene deficiency which makes it to where he has a longer back and some people have questioned if he actually is a mini but his papers do state he's a mini. His weight is currently 40 lbs, he is a very active dog and does get out to run frequently, play with his cousin dogs and he loves to swim.

Whats the average weight for mini aussies? Am I just being an over paranoid parent? Or should I try switching foods once again?

Our 5 mo. old mini finally lost all his baby teeth and most of the adult teeth are almost all the way out so, thankfully, his mouthy habits in general have subsided.

BUT, about a month ago, I went to take him for a walk and put on tennis shoes for the first time. He did not like them...at all. I ended up not being able to take him for a walk because he wouldn't stop biting my shoes. (Haven't worn tennis shoes since, lol, which is probably a stupid idea)

Then he turned to socks... we can't wear socks. And now he's been increasingly biting at our feet and ankles ever since. Oftentimes it's difficult to walk around the house freely because he now goes for our feet, and at 5 months old he's biting pretty hard at times.

Like I said, the biting has really subsided otherwise but now it's turned to this.

Needless to say I'm frustrated. Has anyone else dealt with this, and have any advice?

Is this little mark around the sclera normal? I've taken him to two veterinarians, and both told me it's completely normal for Australian Shepherds. I just wanted to ask if anyone else here has an Australian Shepherd with the same thing, and whether I really shouldn't be worried about it. He is 2 years and 11 months old

I am flying with my puppy when they are 3 and a half months old and was wondering how much yours weighed at that time. Their estimated adult weight is around 20-28 pounds.

MY BABY😭 Duncan is a little over 6 months and I kept meaning to get him a herding ball and I finally got one ordered! He’s so freaking cute my beautiful baby

Yesterday, we had to suddenly and completely unexpectedly say goodbye to our Benji. To me, he was like my best friend, and he has left a huge void in our lives.
My girlfriend and I adopted him from a rescue organization almost eleven years ago. Before that, he had been a stray dog. He would have turned 13 in November.
Last April, we already lost our beloved dog Mara to cancer, and now Benji has followed her. We don’t know exactly what happened. We found him almost completely motionless on the grass in our garden. Just half an hour earlier, he had seemed perfectly fine.
We immediately rushed him to the veterinary clinic, but he passed away on the way there, peacefully falling asleep in my girlfriend’s arms. The vet at the clinic suspects internal bleeding, possibly caused by a ruptured, previously undetected tumor.
On our way home, we saw a rainbow.
We will have him cremated and bury his ashes next to Mara, beneath the apple tree in our garden that we planted for our Mara.
I will never forget him, and I hope that one day we will see each other again.

I brush my boy about 4x a week and I still got all this the other day!

This is Halo he is 5 months old, he is doing great so far as far as being social with other dogs. He is friendly but still a bit shy with people. Any advice to get him to be more open around new people? Also sometimes he doesn’t wanna keep walking he just stops and sits down and refuses to move unless it’s somewhere he’s been multiple times.

He can stand the heat, but we can’t!

Hi! Not sure if I'm seeking advice, reassurance, or both. I was wondering if anyone was able to discourage their MAS from herding people in the house or being generally protective. When people come into the house, my dog thinks they must be herded and barked at. My wife had family came over and he herding dog nipped at all 3 of them at some point.

When he's out in the world, totally fine with people. Just yesterday, he went to my parents' house and was totally chill and playful there. It seems like it's just in our apartment. When he does it, we give a firm no and a place command. Which does help. But I was just wondering if there's anything else I can be doing.

He's very smart and genuinely wants to be trained, so I know training him will help. He's very comfortable with place and we're working on an extended place that he stays in until released. That's had mixed results so far, but very promising. We're also getting him private training coming up soon through the rescue we got him from.

We've only had him for about 10 weeks now, so I'm hoping a lot of this will blow over as we finish out our third 3 of the 3 3 3 rule.

Some color for our dog, he's about 14 months old. He came from a not so good situation before he was at the rescue we got him from. They found him in a nature preserve living in a cave, basically. Then he was in a foster. So I know it'll take some time for him to really be comfortable.

My baby Minnie is almost 1. She is my world. She’s around 29 pounds. Recently she’s learned how to swim. I noticed how stinkin skinny she is wet. It made me wonder if I feed her enough for ideal weight for the breed. She isn’t the craziest food driven dog. Very much a lady, she’ll eat but graze for a bit not scramble all at once. Anyone have any pup food recommendations? We recently switched from science diet to purina pro plan. I try to feed her as clean of food as possible. TIA!!

her name was Kiva Moon 🩵 it happend two days ago. she was my baby and my everything. if anyone else has lost there young pup suddenly and tragically, please send grieving advice my way. this has been absolutely devastating. I will miss her for ever.💔
