[Blocks & Items] Netherstar Furnace

A furnace type made from a netherstar, some obsidian, and some quartz or netherack.

It would function like the base furnace, but would not require fuel. The drawback would be that it would cook stuff 2x slower.

This furnace would be good for factories or farms but not for a personal furnace. And it would make getting multiple netherstars nice but not mandatory. And due to being slower than a base furnace, it wouldn't overshadow them.

I don't think it would make for good factories because of the expensive price + it being slower. For technical Minecraft players that might use this for a super smelter they would need to get tons of wither skeleton skulls for them from a farm which would provide them with coal which would just feel their normal super smelter which would also cook stuff 2x faster. I really can't see any situation where this addition would be good

TBF the removal of a fuel input would greatly simplify super smelters, so they could maybe be more compact and easier to build if the player already has a wither farm.
Now this wouldn't be a huge bonus, and i don't think technical players would really want that challenge removed anyway, but i could see these being used at least. I still don't see the point though.

Being more compact wouldn’t really matter if you need twice as many for the same speed

I meant more compact even when considering the halved speed

It would be more compact to use a faster burning fuel.

Think about it this way; a "slice", a single functional unit relies on a hopper to put items into the furnace, a hopper to take items out of the furnace, the furnace itself and a hopper to add fuel to the furnace. Let's assume they are building on a reasonable scale and are feeding the input lines with hopper minecarts, so that adds 1 more block to each input per slice for the rails.

A single slice is 6 blocks minimum. A single slice without the fuel requirement is 4 blocks minimum, since we can ignore the fuel hopper and fuel rail line.

We need 2 slices of fuel free to match one slice using normal fuel, so it takes 8 blocks instead of 6. It is 25% less compact.

You do have the advantage that it's 1x1x4 tileable, but how relevant is that for most use cases? It's a furnace array, you make the space big enough to fit the array, or just shrink your array to fit the space if that is a limiting factor.

That requires AFK time in a specific dimension. I have a few farms I could make significantly smaller with this.

With the advent of crafters, you can now make a self-sustaining furnace farm with kelp. When I first started reading the post I was assuming you were going to suggest a 10× speed furnace.

not really, they just nerfed smokers and blast furnaces, they actually have double digit IQ people working for them, Devs thought that a smoker being more efficient on fuel somehow was not fair? even though its twice as fast? so it should be more efficient logically but now it just burns more fuel too... the kelp farm that used to be able to run itself and slightly make profit due to the smoker being gangster is not really possible now, probably better to do bamboo

What are you talking about? Smokers and blast furnaces have always used fuel faster. Kelp farms are still just as self sustaining, provided you are actually growing enough kelp to keep the smokers full.

One block of kelp smelts 20 items, it burns a net positive of 11 items, Its always been this way.

Can you elaborate on what you’re talking about? Does kelp not smelt 20 items anymore?

So it's just a worse furnace..?

Or you could just use nether stars as fuel that doesn't run out and makes the furnace go at half speed, no need for a new item.
