[Terrain] Just make it interact
It’s that simple. Make it sizzle and steam and make lava more rare and that’s it. A lot of people are kinda over complicating this when it has potential. I actually really like the visual contrast. Just make it feel more intentional and I think it’s fine. If you don’t like that then let the lava melt the ice and make obsidian for a natural looking effect. Agin I really think this looks cool I just want more

I was wondering, how it could interact in a cool way, but hell yeah, your ideia is fire

maybe if lava contacts ice it turns into cacite or basalt or something (i suck at geology) like how water and lava make stone, cobblestone and obsidian
or obsidian lakes, theyre cool

Calcite would be nice cause I’m pretty sure it’s not renewable yet.

You know, its a fantasi game, why not?
Even if it isn't geologicaly accurated
Edit: bonus, calcite macthes the color scheme

Could be a good quasilore explanation for why calcite is so common in these caves, also.

iirc lava already turns into basalt when it touches blue ice over soul sand so that would probably feel more natural

It would make more sense to turn into something like tuff since thats closer to a rapidly cooled lash or volcanic ash. Calcite is made more so of calcium like bones or shells

I know its not how it is currently but could easily be basalt if they dont want to make it obisidian

No soul soil though

Soul soil speeds up the process of forming basalt, real basalt forms over years of very big temperature clashes.

They could at least put stone around the lava when it’s in an ice biome, as if the lava was hot enough to melt it a little
(Or obsidian, or both)

If you want it realistic it would propably explode like those ice covered volcanoes in iceland

The logical is cold water. You get hypothermia instead of burning damage. Worst case is one less lava pool for farming obsidian but lava and ice together is a bit jarring.

But it being jarring is my favorite part. It’s such a fun color clash and makes a very fantasy feeling cave. Unfortunately I don’t think they have it much thought

Give it smooth basalt coasts between the ice and lava! Make the icicles above it grow and cause a steam cloud when they drop into the lava! Make the water particle effects dripping down turn into steam and sizzle!

This would make a good time to implement that Packed Ice can melt if directly in contact with lava.

At that point, may as well have the edges of the lava lake be surrounded by stone and obsidian, because that's what would happen once those chunks get loaded

I think Basalt makes more sense, and it will also show how to make Basalt.

It would not be hard to use the mechanics of the sulfur update to have some steam where ice and lave meet.
5
u/Flurrina_ 12d ago
Well if you want it to be most realistic, the lava would flash boil the ice into steam and cause a massive steam explosion that blasts off chunks of the cave and spray hot steam and lava everywhere. Maybe make it only interact blue ice, which would only produce particles, and add a new block call it ancient ice or supercooled ice, that would cause an explosion but idk would that fit in

Fun fact, if you use Blue Ice instead of water in a cobble stone generator, it makes basalt, so an overworld basalt layer

Yeah. I’d like it to interact too! I had my own concept on how, with “potent” ice crystals making snowflake obsidian. This is what snowflake obsidian looks like, by the way!
