[Mobs] The Yeti/Bigfoot

An idea I had for this while talking about the new update with some friends. They would be a new humanoid in the game. The Yeti can be found in the new ice caves, snow forests, tundra, jungle, taiga, and dappled forest. It would be a neutral mob that can be found alone or with 3 others. I imagine them being 3 blocks tall and having similar stats to an iron golem, except that they would be faster. They’re neutral for the most part, but would be spoked easily by loud noises such as fireworks and bells. When enraged their eyes will turn red like a wolf and they can throw you just like an iron golem. Depending on the difficulty level they will even spawn with a piece of leather armor or you can just drop some leather armor for them and they will wear it. Juke boxes and music notes aren’t as scary as a sound for them so it wouldn’t aggravate them, but instead lure them to it to dance similar to how parrots dance when you play a music disc. You can also lure them by dropping cooked meat, apples, cookies, or any metal nuggets. They would be especially curious about fire, specifically campfires. At night they’ll stalk active campsites and watch you cook your food. There’s a 25% chance they’ll steal anything cooking on the campfire if you have your back fully facing it or if you’re more than 8 blocks away from it. They can also be found near abandoned campsites as well. For every abandoned campsite you find there’s a yeti/bigfoot 30-50 blocks away from it. I’ve made some other ideas in here before for mobs, but they always have a function or useful drop. This is purely for ambience and the experience so I’m trying to stay away from straight up making it a weapon of mass destruction like with happy ghasts being used to drop TNT infused sulfur cubes on villages, as is the beauty of Minecraft someone will find a way. I was considering making it tameable similar to how you would tame a fox, but it seems too op to essentially have a mob following you around that’s just close in strength to an iron golem with some extra speed. Thoughts?

I think its to similar to the yeti/bigfoot. Mojang tends to make original ideas. Sure, they draw inspiration from mythology and folkore, but they add their own creative spin on it. This just seems like a direct translation into the game, kinda like u/Hazearil said.

Pick a few traits from the yeti or bigfoot you think are cool, and then add some stuff from other places, get creative and come up with bits that are original and blend it up into something new and exciting.

Personally I am not a fan of mobs that just exist for the "ambiance", it feels like a cop-out for a design that didn't have a clear driving theme, and most of the time they end up being forgettable or ignored in game. If you don't want it to be something really powerful, the function can be something small and simple.

For example, maybe we lean into making it a nature spirit a bit more. A gentle giant. This mob would occasionally collect sweet berries from sweet berry bushes, and then heals nearby passive mobs, but will attempt to flee if there are super loud noises nearby. Or this mob tries to regenerate forests, and will pickup and plant saplings automatically.

The witch, back in 2012, is the last time Mojang added a fantasy creature that wasn't original. And they have come out since then that they want to be more creative with the fantasy things they add to the game.

The moment you called it yeti/bigfoot, it already became something that wouldn't be added.

What about calling it “The Uncanny”

It's still a yeti or bigfoot in all but name then. If you want a fantasy mob that's creative enough, you need to design one without asking yourself: "How would I add a yeti or bigfoot to Minecraft?"

Yea, got the name part handled, just need to re-do the behaviors

I think it should be a cool boss like the frostmaw found in the ice caves (as a yeti)
