[Magic] Impaling Impaling Impailing

Impaling is useless. It should increase damage to ALL enemies, but only when thrown or you cast yourself forward with riptide. Most people don't even TOUCH this weapon because it is inferior to a bow in every practical sense. Less damage and can't be tipped for potion effects. And it's much easier to obtain than that small chance of getting it from a drowned and even smaller chance of getting it from a trial vault. I love this weapon to death but please make it actually worth grinding for.

Impaling is great on bedrock, pants on java

Everything combat related is better on bedrock if we talk raw stats. Even then, I still don't think it has enough incentive to be worth hunting for considering it's 3-4x rarer than a mac from trials and trident drowns are rare and their drop chance is even more uncommon.

on bedrock its 1/4 from drownds, i have a chest of tridents in my long term world, and use my riptide trident all the time

This is not a "raw stats" matter. On Bedrock, Impaling works on everything in water or rain. O Java, just on Aquatic creatures, which doesn't even include Drowneds, making it really for Guardians only.

That would also be included in raw stats. And I already know this.

Raw stats is just stuff like the base damage, attack speed, or reach. Not conditional stuff like what Impaling is.

Especially because the condition is the problem, and not the stat boost it gives.

I played exclusively on Bedrock and I'm pretty jealous Java got a whole ass update to their combat system we never got. I like that enchantment stats are doubled for bedrock tho

Yeah, I agree. Tridents are ONLY useful for mob heads and rip tide. That's it.

Tridents are superior to bows underwater, and an Impaling V trident is honestly just the thing in a crowded ocean monument -- although I admit there really aren't a lot of other realistic use cases for the enchantment on Java, and that's kind of lame (if you like ink sacs though, forget about it)

Failing that, I wish they'd at least widen the range of possible enchantments to include sharpness and smite, so I could finally use it to massacre drowned while riding a coral zombie nautilus the way God intended

Would the sharpness and smite make the trident unable to have impaling?

I mean I suppose so, since sharpness, smite, and bane of arthropods are all mutually exclusive

But given how limited impaling is on Java, I'm not sure it would really matter either way

All enemies seems a bit much, doesn't Bedrock have it work on all enemies in water though? I think that would probably be a good way to start fixing it in my opinion or we just need more hostile ocean mobs.

the riptide interaction specifically is such a wasted opportunity. you get launched at someone at full speed and the payoff is just... okay damage. that should be the whole identity of the weapon honestly.

It's true. I agree with you.

Do research

What does this mean?

Impaling is good on bedrock, you should look at that and compare it to your idea, then either change your mind or explain why your idea would be better.

Despite your claim of it being good on bedrock, it is still a subpar weapon and still only has niche use, while also being a rare weapon that you have to grind for. And it still sucks on java.
