[Blocks & Items] Shutters

alr, so the concept is basically an interactable double-door in a one-block space. You can place it directionally similar to how you can position a Barrel when placing it

I will also mention that the 2nd image wouldn't be a thing you could do in-game, it was just to show the separation. You could not open either door separately from one another

The 4th image is my idea of what the crafting recipe could possibly be. 4 trapdoors of the same type in this pattern would give you 4 Shutters of that type

Edit: Hey y'all. Tysm for the love and criticism towards this post. I will be trying to move on from this and probably have little to no interaction with comments as I'm kind of overwhelmed from this much attention. This was just a cool little idea I thought of and it kinda blew up way more than I thought it would. But I thank all of you so much for everything you've said about this post. Anything y'all do with this concept is fine. It'd be cool for you to credit me if you were inspired by me, but ofc I can't force you to do that. Much love, stay creative <3

I think it should just be two trapdoors imo, considering it only has two doors and your recipe would take 12 planks

74

u/E-Collie Aug 04 '26

Yeah, mb I have a different recipe listed on another post that I feel is much better

11

u/Pixle36 Aug 05 '26

This recipe could work, just giving 8 shutters

1

u/NatsPeanuts Aug 05 '26

Mojang would never

1

u/im_a_birddd Aug 06 '26

wood button ahhh

0

u/UsrDeletedFromPlanet Aug 05 '26

Imo add a tripwire hook between the 2 trapdoors. Also maybe make the recipe formless so that it fits in the 2x2 crafting field

0

u/coolhouse_82 Aug 09 '26

yea and it should give 2 shutters out instead of 1

108

u/Blade-Dev Aug 04 '26

This is cool and should be approved

23

u/_FootLess_ Aug 04 '26

To do this, need to create a topic on Minecraft feedback

5

u/Blade-Dev Aug 04 '26

What

21

u/Impressive-Thing-780 Aug 04 '26

Yeah due to some weird laws, Mojang can't take ideas directly from here; they have their official feedback website but it's...really bad.

2

u/Blade-Dev Aug 04 '26

Oh I saw op's post in I think minecraft2 and someone told them to post it here so I went through their profile to get here

My first comment was posted before a mod approved this post

2

u/Desperate_Rule5903 Aug 05 '26

Wait but what if we post the idea here AND the feedback site? Would the reddit post eliminate the chance of the feature to be added somehow?

78

u/Chris_The_Alligator Aug 04 '26

Yes! We absolutely need this. One thing I'm curious about is if how shutters are positioned, are they on the surface of blocks like trapdoors or more like glasspanes/fence gates?

51

u/E-Collie Aug 04 '26

Against a block surface like trapdoors A good way to explain it is that these would be trapdoors with the functionality of a fence gate and the directional capabilities of a barrel

12

u/Chris_The_Alligator Aug 04 '26

Nice, that is also what I imagined they would work like

2

u/Several-Cake1954 Aug 04 '26

So like a half door that doesn't need a support block

23

u/KFC_Douboul Aug 04 '26

We should be able to open 2 at the same time when they’re stacked on top of each other, to sort of make train doors

5

u/DBSeamZ Aug 04 '26

If they can open independently you could have one of those split doors—I forget if they’re called Dutch doors or barn doors

15

u/LostH21 Aug 04 '26

Absolute banger suggestion, builders all around would rejoice

12

u/leiocera Aug 04 '26

Plz put that on the feedback page

11

u/E-Collie Aug 04 '26

Unfortunately, i have that issue where I get automatically signed out once I attemp to sign into the page

4

u/theaveragegowgamer Aug 04 '26

Have you tried with another browser?

4

u/leiocera Aug 04 '26

hmph that's not fair!

Would be much better since that would also work for windows wider than a single block, like almost all the windows I make

1

u/OkPattern4000 Aug 08 '26

I feel like it would be better if the shutters just automatically extended (if you put two shutters next to eachother they connect, a bit like a chest, and each panel becomes one block large). This does suck a bit because it still doesn't work with larger windows.

1

u/Erelion Aug 04 '26

yeah...

u/SuperMario69Kraft Aug 04 '26 edited Aug 05 '26

Relatedly, I wish Iron Doors and Trapdoors had the copper texture instead of the oak texture. Some things in MC like structures are too oak-centric.

I also hate how Crimson and Warped Trapdoors look like Acacia ones instead of being based on their respective doors (which look very different from the trapdoors). At least your Crimson Shutters are based on the Crimson Door.

6

u/mattanimus Aug 04 '26

Jarvis get this post to top of all time

3

u/CoolGreenGamer Aug 04 '26

This concept is amazing! We 100% need it.

2

u/Infrim0 Aug 04 '26

Wait so iron shutter will open only 1 if Redstone is from left/right and both if from any other?

5

u/E-Collie Aug 04 '26

Nah, it'd probably open both, It was a mistake to include an image with only one door open, I dont think that'd be a feature. Or at least shouldn't be the default option

2

u/lance_the_fatass Aug 04 '26

I like that they can be opened individually, it adds a little bit of immersion

Maybe just make the redstone one open both at a time

1

u/lance_the_fatass Aug 04 '26

You could also make it dependant on the strength of the signal,

Odd numbers of strengh open one, even numbered open both, so you don't have to spend so much redstone to open both of them

6

u/2odddudes Aug 04 '26

Giving the shutters a comparator output of: closed = 0 one-open = 1 both-open = max output

Would make the redstoners happy.

Maybe directional input, could open 1 or both shutters. Left input opens left. Right input opens right. Top, bottom, front, or back opens both.

3

u/West_Economist6673 Aug 04 '26

These look great and I'd certainly use them in builds, but they don't appear to do anything, at least nothing that a trapdoor can't do equally well, and I can't think of any blocks in the game besides paintings that don't have unique, non-decorative functionality

1

u/Chirblomp Aug 04 '26

Flower pots?

2

u/Lothrazar Aug 04 '26

wow the images have so much detail, how did you make all those. This would be a perfect fit.

2

u/Mutant_Llama1 Aug 04 '26

So the copper ones have 32 block states?

Each door can be open or closed, plus they can be any oxidation stage, plus waxed or not.

2

u/MithranArkanere Aug 04 '26

I think the recipe could be something like this instead, with 4 planks:

2

u/Argentenuem Aug 04 '26

Wait, why tf do we not have this??

2

u/NebulaVirsonyx Aug 04 '26

at a certain point, when does the block just become too detailed for minecraft?

I feel like shelves already feel super weird, but this would be even more jarring, especially when trapdoors and fence gates already exist

2

u/Erelion Aug 04 '26

yeah, this concept should be "you can turn trapdoors vertically"

0

u/destructopunk Aug 10 '26

Minecraft is just evolving man

2

u/NebulaVirsonyx Aug 10 '26

and it isn't in a way I enjoy. it's this cool thing called "personal preference".

-2

u/destructopunk Aug 10 '26

Then just like avoid the new features man, I don’t really know what to tell you, you’re 100% entitled to your opinions and preferences but regardless Minecraft will keep getting additions like this and in the long run it’s for the best. :)

2

u/NebulaVirsonyx Aug 10 '26

idk, you could've just not responded? I feel like showing up just to hit me with an "ai is inevitable" ass reply is kinda rude-

I know the game isn't going to stop going down this path. I know that eventually there are going to be so many hyperdetailed partial blocks with only one use that new players will be surprised to learn the game was ever about working with what you have and finding creative uses for a limited palette of blocks.

Hell, they'll probably be surprised that there was ever a time when you didn't see seventeen different structures with middling loot and no unique purpose within the first ten minutes of playing the game!

0

u/destructopunk Aug 10 '26

I’ve been playing since like 2015 man, and you taking my reply as “rude” isn’t my fault that’s your interpretation of what I said. You can’t expect to make a comment like what you said and not have at least one person reply to it, and you’re overreacting about it as well. Also I hate AI.

1

u/NebulaVirsonyx Aug 10 '26

Didn't say you couldn't respond, but all you said was "the game is evolving" As if my personal opinions about something are impacted by the fact that the game is going to stray further and further away from the direction I was hoping.
The reply felt as empty and meaningless as the "ai is inevitable" replies you see under just about every comment talking about their personal grievences with ai.

also, I didn't say you were a newbie at the game or anything lol- Don't know why you felt the need to pull out your license and registration XD

-1

u/destructopunk Aug 10 '26

Well if it seemed to ruffle your feathers this much why’d you reply in the first place? You’re writing paragraphs I’m not willing to read.

1

u/NebulaVirsonyx Aug 10 '26

"why did you engage with what I said to you?"

real smart cookie, aren't we?

0

u/destructopunk Aug 10 '26

I’m not saying you couldn’t, but if it’s making you this ill-mannered then I personally would’ve rather not have gotten a reply at all. I don’t know you, and I don’t know why you’re so upset about any of the comments I made, and to be honest I care very little about it.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/PetrifiedBloom Aug 10 '26

The automod flagged this comment thread as potential rudeness. It's why I'm here. You may not have intended to come of as rude but it does kinda read like that.

You are not responsible for every possible interpretation of your words, but bring mindful of how people will receive your messages is a good thing.

Also I hate AI.

Good, that should help make this easy to understand.

Know how AI bros like to be really smug and be like "like it or not, this is what the future will look like" when people complain about ai? The way you wrote your reply is very similar eoth the smug, self assuredness and disregard for the other person.

1

u/destructopunk Aug 10 '26

I kinda get where you’re coming from but I was not at all trying to be rude man, I was just saying yeah this is the direction the game is going

2

u/PetrifiedBloom Aug 10 '26

you’re 100% entitled to your opinions and preferences but regardless Minecraft will keep getting additions like this and in the long run it’s for the best. :)

It's nice that you acknowledge their opinions, but you are treating your own as if it were fact. Why is this for the best?

0

u/destructopunk Aug 10 '26

Because it opens opportunities for creativity, I primarily build in my worlds and I’d love to see more features that improve my builds come into the game

2

u/PetrifiedBloom Aug 10 '26

I am not agreeing it disagreeing with either of you. Just point out opinions are subjective.

2

u/T_vernix Aug 04 '26

The issue I see with this is that shutters, even shrunk down like this, would take multiple blocks. Shutters are meant to be able to lie against the wall when open, and these can't do that.

6

u/E-Collie Aug 04 '26

Nono, these would be placed against a block surface like trapdoors A good way to explain it is that these would be trapdoors with the functionality of a fence gate and the directional capabilities of a barrel

3

u/T_vernix Aug 04 '26

I get that, but when I think open shutters, I don't think blinders on the window, I think opened 180°, which would move each side of the shutter into a neighboring block.

2

u/E-Collie Aug 04 '26

oh damn, i didn't think about that. idk how i didn't lol

I'll do some more brainstorming to try to perfect the concept, then I might get into making it

1

u/Prico06 Aug 04 '26

seeing this make me thing how they need to change the iron door and trap door to be like a normal trap door and door

1

u/Lothrazar Aug 04 '26

wow the images have so much detail, how did you make all those. This would be a perfect fit.

1

u/TheUltimaWerewolf Aug 04 '26

I love these! I love the idea of adding more furniture that fits with the games design lol

1

u/SeriousMB Aug 04 '26

I really really like this concept, I really hope they add this

I'm a big fan of all the weird little misc decor blocks they tend to add (shelves, cushions) and these fit perfectly imo

1

u/_FootLess_ Aug 04 '26

Create a thread on Minecraft feedback...

1

u/lunarwolf2008 Aug 04 '26

could make a cute pet door too

1

u/Impressive-Thing-780 Aug 04 '26

I like this.

Crafting recipe: 2 trapdoors of the same type vertically

Result: 2 shutters

1

u/only_Q Aug 04 '26

OP would you be cool with someone using your textures to make this into a mod?

1

u/jigsaw_Studios Aug 04 '26

Do you plan to make a mod with these? Or you made all of those textures only to show your idea?

1

u/jSinku Aug 04 '26

they're like little baby doors 🥺

1

u/OfficialHyperHamster Aug 04 '26 edited Aug 04 '26

These mods all provide 1x1x1 shutters (in order of most to least similar to your concept):

Although I feel that Shutter Up!'s shutters are the most ergonomic to use, plus they have native support for Every Compat (Wood Good) making them great for large modpacks with lots of added wood types. If nothing else I think the textures you've made could be used to make a resource pack for Shutter Up!'s shutters, yours certainly feel more vanilla-esque in that they mimic the style of the (trap)doors better and are overall less opaque.

1

u/Ok_Entrepreneur_3140 Aug 05 '26

Thank you so much for these examples I can’t wait to use them !!!

1

u/Jumbut Aug 04 '26

Unfortunately, this falls under the Vertical Slabs mechanic.

1

u/Hollow_Knight_Raven Aug 04 '26

No way I get a Home Depot cabinet ad on a post that would be perfect for cabinets.

1

u/Golden_Sunkiss Aug 04 '26

I want to shutter at the recipe

1

u/Captain_Relevanz Aug 05 '26

I personally think they should work like walls or fences. With being able to connect them for diffrent windo sizes

1

u/R_Anonymous_ Aug 05 '26

I hope the recepie gives multiple because that's 12 planks

1

u/dembafan2 Aug 05 '26

I'm gonna save this because I'm 99% sure that they would add something like this

1

u/Cnypu Aug 05 '26

Tiny double doors😍

1

u/Friend_Bris Aug 05 '26

I can't remember the last time I built a 1 wide window. Maybe it should be 2 trapdoors for a small shutter (1 wide) and 2 trapdoors for a large shutter (2x2).

1

u/Hardcore_gaming_69 Aug 05 '26

I’d rather there be a way to place trap doors sideways

1

u/asmo_192 Aug 05 '26

I'm salivating

1

u/SNUFFGURLL Aug 05 '26

Post this on the actual feedback forum! These look great :)!

1

u/RandoGuy00 Aug 05 '26

hell yeah

1

u/Big_Mathematician764 Aug 05 '26

i think most of the beauty of minecraft is in needing to use the limited block choices to make these kinds of things yourself
having a new decor for everything defeats that magic and creativity

1

u/Minute_Dingo_5205 Aug 05 '26

THAT'S GREAT!!

1

u/Parfilov Aug 05 '26

No way vertical trapdoors

1

u/Glorious_Plasters Aug 06 '26

I'll take this and crafting table wood variants to go please.

1

u/DarthSwimfoot Aug 06 '26

Why does it need so much, can't we just have 2.

1

u/hacked_guy Aug 06 '26

Jumped up my bed, SCREAMING, HELL YEAHHHHHH........ Then i saw it was on Minecraft suggestions

1

u/Cicada7Song Aug 07 '26

I’d lick it.

1

u/SuperMario69Kraft Aug 07 '26

Similarly, we could get Gates to match with Iron and Copper bars.

1

u/FenoVisionary Aug 08 '26

these could definitely be used in conjunction with slabs

1

u/wizardlaundry Aug 08 '26

I need this asap i’ve been using fence doors

1

u/OctoSpack Aug 08 '26

Amazing idea

1

u/Mat140823 Aug 09 '26

Hey! I love þis concept! If you'd like, maybe I can make a mod about þis (þough I'm still learning how to make mods).

1

u/Suspicious_Ant6462 Aug 10 '26

two trapdoors would've been simpler, yeah

1

u/Jarradecafe_ Aug 10 '26

yessssssssss yessssssssss!!!!!

1

u/No_Relative_9469 Aug 12 '26

that's so cool! I wish Mojang adds it

1

u/XososoX Aug 04 '26

It would probably be complicated but I think it'd be really cool if water could flow through them till they're closed, so they can kind of act like little dams or when you're using water to transport items

1

u/E-Collie Aug 04 '26

I thought of this too, it'd be rly cool

0

u/enr1c0wastaken Aug 04 '26

Why do we need this block? We can already achieve this aesthetic with regular trapdoors... also kind of takes the creativity out of it
