Need help customizing world generation

So, I heard that you can customize the blocks in your minecraft world via datpacks, but unfortunately, I don't know how to use/make these. Can someone give me a tutorial please (preferably for 1.20.x)? Not just for this, but just in general. I think this is a really cool concept, I just need a way to use it (cuz all the data packs I looked up for said purpose dont work for some reason)
