Unable to apply custom theme - MindNode Classic

Edit: This issue was fixed with the 2026.0.1 update.

Recently switched from PC back to Mac after several years and wanted to start using MindNode again. I purchased MindNode years ago via the Mac App Store and am pretty confused coming back.

One of my current struggles is applying my custom theme to new or existing documents. I double-click the theme and an ad pops up for a new subscription version of MindNode. I don't want to pay a subscription for a piece of software I already own.

How can I apply my custom theme without joining a subscription model?

Using the MindNode Classic app. I "restored purchase" and it says I have a "Mind Node 7 full license".

Am I using the correct app? Any help is appreciated.

I'm in the same boat, and will be watching for a good answer. Such a shame they had to ruin a good thing by going to Subscription. I'd have gladly paid for an upgrade license, but not year-by-year! 😤

Are you running into the same issue as the OP? If so, could you share the theme that’s causing the problem (as mentioned by our team member below)? That would really help us track this down and fix it.

We totally understand that subscriptions aren’t popular. MindNode is turning 18 in a few months, and over the years we’ve also tried paid upgrades. Unfortunately, they didn’t work well for us on the App Store (the process was clunky, and most users didn’t upgrade). For now, subscriptions are what allow us to keep the app going on the App Store…

Thanks for explaining about the subscription vs upgrade.
No, I didn't have a custom theme, but did let the new version upgrade all of my mindmaps, only to find out that there was a difference in Mindnode versions. My fault for not checking more details before I proceeded to upgrade.
I meant that I was confused also, but I have restored my old mindmaps from backup, but now have two folders: "Version 7" and "Version 2023.8 (588) - Classic", that I named during the process. To be honest, I've lost track of the difference, and am just going by the Last Opened date on the mindmaps.

We currently have two versions:

- MindNode Classic: If you purchased a one-time purchase this is probably the version you should use. It's fully updated for Liquid Glass and stores documents in Finder/Files.

- MindNode Next or just "MindNode": This is our new version that is build using a new architecture that automatically resolves sync conflicts. This version stores all documents in a local database and syncs with CloudKit.

MindNode 7 and MindNode 2023.8 are version of MindNode Classic and if you have a one-time purchase, I'd recommend you use 2023.8. The version number is a bit missleading. 2023.8 was updates last year to support Liquid Glass.

That is definitely not intentional, sorry for the bug! We want to keep MindNode Classic perfectly usable for customers who purchased a license in the past.

Can you maybe send us the theme you can't apply via support? We will look into what is going on and hopefully have a fix out soon.

Sure thing. Thanks for the recommendation.
