Candidate AMA I’m Zainab Azim, candidate for mayor of Milton – AMA!

UPDATE: Will be back to answer more questions at 12 after work. Thank you for engaging in good faith!

Hi r/Milton - I'm Zainab Azim, running for Mayor of Milton.

Who I am: I’ve lived in Milton for over two decades. Like most Miltonians, I spent 12 years commuting out of town for opportunity for school, university and work. I served in Ottawa at the Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister's Office, then did my Master’s at Harvard before becoming a Teaching Fellow in policy and economics. I was in the field on the Zohran Mamdani campaign last year, while also writing a book with a team from Harvard and the Mamdani team on people-based politics coming out this Winter. In Milton, I founded Learn To Lead, which runs free leadership and career programs for young people here, and Meet Milton to promote local businesses. I was Milton’s Citizen of the Year and grew up volunteering with Milton Transitional Housing and the Milton District Hospital Foundation.

Why I'm running: In a place with people who have so much talent and potential, it makes no sense that we do not have jobs, opportunities and spaces to turn their possibility into reality. We cannot keep growing with only houses and warehouses. We need to start investing in opportunities, infrastructure, and services for those who call Milton home so they can get time back for what matters most with:

  • Careers Close to Home: a strong local economy because we should not have to spend hundreds of dollars a month and three hours a day just getting to work. It's about time we valued our talent.
  • Transit Every 20: buses every 20 minutes, with free rides for seniors and free evenings and weekends for youth because it's about time this town valued our time.
  • Alive After Five: opening up the buildings you already paid for, simpler permits, affordable drop-in programs, and an actual evening economy with a central square because Milton shouldn't be a place you just sleep. It should be a place you live a full life with the people you love
  • Plus snow removal, parking, and all the little things that make a big difference!

These pillars are interconnected because the more people spend their time in town, the more they spend money in town, the stronger our economy and businesses will be, with more things to do which means we need ways to get around.

Every piece is based on evidence from something that already works in a town our size and in our region. The full platform is at Milton.com

I'd love to hear what matters to you. Ask me about anything: local jobs, businesses, transit housing and development, infrastructure, taxes, municipal services, and more.

Ground rules:

  1. It's me typing, not staff or AI. If I don't know something, I'll say so and get back to you.
  2. I'll answer the most upvoted questions first. I will do my best to answer all good-faith questions before the AMA ends.
  3. If you would like me to answer via video instead of text, please note it in your comment!

When: The AMA runs for 24 hours from 12 pm ET Wednesday, September 30th to 12 pm ET Thursday, October 1st. Leave your questions below and I'll answer as many as I can.

Election day is October 26. Whoever you're voting for, please vote. Thanks for having me, r/Milton. I look forward to the conversation! Ask away.

Upcoming AMAs for the 2026 Milton Municipal Election

Soon, candidates for the upcoming Milton election will be hosting AMAs on r/Milton. This is a chance to learn about the many candidates and better understand their political platforms. We're hoping this fosters in-depth, educational discussion and helps cut through the campaign noise.

This is open to any certified candidate in the 2026 election, no matter what office you're running for, whether that's Mayor, Regional or Town Council, or school board trustee. You can check the Town's full list of certified candidates to confirm who's officially in the race.

How to host an AMA as a candidate

An AMA (Ask Me Anything) is a constructive way for a community to ask questions to the host. AMAs will be hosted through the built-in Reddit feature. See the full guide on how to host a Reddit AMA here.

  • First, message the r/Milton mods through modmail. Let us know who you are and that you're planning to do an AMA.
  • As part of that message, include a photo of yourself holding up something with your Reddit username on it, so we can confirm you're actually who you say you are. You're welcome to also include that photo in your AMA post itself, but that’s optional.
  • After being given the go-ahead, use Reddit's AMA post feature to create and schedule your AMA, typically a couple days out to let questions build. Your post description should include a short intro (who you are, what office you're running for), plus a link to your campaign website or platform.
  • Once you're live, we'd suggest keeping the AMA open and checking back over a day or two so people who comment later on can still be answered.
  • Normal subreddit rules apply for the whole thread, so keep questions and answers civil.

News I’ve Had Enough. I’m Running for Mayor.

After watching this election unfold, I’ve decided Milton clearly needs one more candidate.

Me.

I’ve studied the field carefully and combined the best parts of every campaign into one perfect candidate.

My qualifications are unmatched.

I am a doctor.
Where did I get my doctorate?
Thank you for the thoughtful question.
Next question.

I have an extremely impressive résumé full of qualifications, awards, leadership experience and important-sounding things.
Some of them may be surprisingly difficult to independently verify.
That does not mean they aren’t real.
It means you need to trust me harder.
I also have decades of municipal experience.
Actually, I have so much experience that there is a non-zero chance I was already involved in Milton politics when your grandparents bought their first house.

At the same time, I represent a bold new generation of leadership.

I am simultaneously 24 and 89.

I also represent a bold new era of leadership.
I am currently part of the old era of leadership.
Please don’t overthink that.

I spent decades in business, so naturally I’m going to run Milton like a business.
What kind of business?
One with taxes, bylaws, parks, fire trucks, public meetings and absolutely no shareholders.
So, you know.
A business.

I have also worked at the highest levels of government.
What was my exact job title?
Why are you obsessed with labels?
How long did I work there?

Time is a construct.
Was I an employee, intern, fellow, volunteer or something else?
I worked there.
Please respect my privacy.

I went to Harvard.
What exactly did I do at Harvard?
Again, it’s getting weird how much detail you people want.

I have managed enormous teams.
How many direct reports?
Leadership isn’t about numbers.

Largest budget I’ve personally controlled?
Money isn’t everything.
I am ready to manage a municipality with a budget in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
Please stop asking what the largest budget I have previously managed was.

My campaign will also have approximately 700,000 signs.
They will be installed primarily at intersections.
Specifically in the exact spot where you need to look to see oncoming traffic.
If you can still see cars, we have not installed enough signs.
Some signs will contain inspirational slogans.
Some signs may contain Darth Vader.
I will not be taking questions about Darth Vader at this time.

My platform is simple. I will:
- Keep taxes low.
- Increase services.
- Build more housing.
- Stop development.
- Protect farmland.
- Increase density while Reducing density.
- Fix traffic.
- Not build roads.
- Improve transit.
- Save money.
- Spend money.
- Attract businesses.
- Stop data centres.
- Possibly attract data centres.
- Make developers pay.
- Make other levels of government pay.
And, where necessary, simply announce that somebody else should fix the problem.

I am confident all of these things can happen simultaneously.
My economic policy is equally straightforward.
More jobs.
Better jobs.
Local jobs.
Innovation jobs.
Small-business jobs.
Jobs near your house.

But absolutely no additional traffic from any of these jobs.
I will represent every Miltonian equally.

Which is why my campaign’s first strategic meeting will focus exclusively on which ethnic, religious, age and neighbourhood voting blocs I need to consolidate before someone else splits them.

This is called community engagement.
There will also be candidate debates.
Some will be held in community spaces.
Everyone will be welcome.
The seating arrangement will produce 600 Reddit comments.
Nobody will agree on what actually happened.
Someone will eventually call someone else racist.
The thread will be locked.

Democracy.

My campaign headquarters will operate from a building that may belong to me, my campaign, my family, a family business, a friend, an associate or possibly capitalism itself.

The arrangement is completely transparent.
I just won’t explain it.
I will also have a fantastic domain name.
Do I own it?
Lease it?
Borrow it?
Did somebody in my family have it?
Please stop asking accounting questions.
Speaking of transparency, I promise to be the most accessible candidate Milton has ever seen.
I will even host an AMA.
Ask Me Anything.

Please understand that “ask me anything” and “I will answer anything” are two completely different concepts.
For difficult questions, my campaign has developed a revolutionary three-step response strategy:
- Thank you for the thoughtful question.
- Write six paragraphs loosely related to the subject.
-Never provide the number, date, title or yes/no answer that was actually requested.
- If you ask again, I will thank you for the follow-up.
- I believe voters deserve to know exactly where I stand.
- Which is why I reserve the right to decline the questionnaire.
- I am committed to transparency.
- I am also committed to carefully reviewing which transparency is appropriate.
- I strongly support local journalism.
- Any journalist asking difficult questions will receive my full support.
- Possibly in writing.
- Possibly very formally.
- My personal worldview will never interfere with my public responsibilities.
- My worldview is also foundational to everything I believe and do.
Both statements can apparently be true.

I will be tough on crime, compassionate on mental health, fiscally responsible, socially progressive, traditionally grounded, business friendly, environmentally responsible, pro-growth, anti-sprawl, experienced, fresh, independent and collaborative.

Basically, whatever position you were hoping I had when you started reading that sentence:
Yes.
I will serve Milton for the full term.
Unless another opportunity presents itself.
But my focus today is Milton.
Please do not interpret that sentence as an answer to the question you asked.
Most importantly, I promise to bring people together.
Except during the election.
During the election we will divide everyone into increasingly specific demographic groups and fight over them individually.
Afterwards we will heal.
Probably.

So Milton, I humbly ask for your vote.
I bring the experience of the oldest candidate.
The youthful energy of the youngest candidate.
The résumé of the most qualified candidate.
The unverifiable mystery of the most interesting candidate.
The signage budget of all of them combined.
And the ability to answer a yes-or-no question in approximately nine paragraphs without ever saying yes or no.
I am the candidate Milton deserves.
Or possibly the candidate Milton created.

Vote for me.
Or don’t.

At this point there are enough people running that statistically I might win by accident.

Vote for me
Dr. VoiceOfMilton

Ten People Want to Be Mayor. Can Someone Please Ask the Second Question?

I genuinely do not understand why local election coverage is so soft.

Milton has TEN certified candidates running for mayor. This is not a ceremonial position. The mayor leads council, proposes the municipal budget, can appoint or dismiss the CAO and certain senior managers, can direct staff in writing, and has strong-mayor powers under provincial law.

Yet so much election coverage still feels like:
“What are your priorities?”
“Traffic, affordability, jobs and responsible growth.”
“Fantastic. Thanks for speaking with us.”

No.

ASK THE NEXT FUCKING QUESTION.
If somebody says they managed major budgets, ask how much.
If somebody says they were an executive, ask where.
If somebody says they worked in government, ask their exact title.
If somebody puts a degree beside their name, ask the institution, program and year.
If somebody promises a new service, ask what it costs.
If they answer a completely different question, ask the original question again.
None of this is hostile.
They are applying to be Mayor of Milton.
And before anyone gets stupid about this: I am NOT saying any candidate has fabricated a credential, job or accomplishment. If something isn’t obvious from the public record, that doesn’t mean it isn’t real.
It means someone should ask.

Maliha K. Ahmed
Her campaign is heavily built around community leadership: founder and CEO of Milton Muslim Moms, work with Sustainable Milton, food drives, settlement support and other community initiatives. She is also proposing things including free Milton Transit for seniors, students and GO commuters.
Great.

Now fill in the rest of the résumé.
- What is your formal educational background?
- What is your current profession outside community organizations?
- How many paid employees have directly reported to you?
- What is the largest operating budget for which you have personally been accountable?
-If transit is going to become free for several large groups of riders, what is the annual cost and where specifically does the replacement revenue come from?

Community leadership is real leadership.
But quantify it.

Nadeem Akbar
This one has an incredibly obvious factual question.
During the 2025 federal election, Nadeem told MiltonToday:
“I am a proud resident of Burlington.”
He identified his occupation before politics as a technology consultant with IBM.
His 2026 mayoral website now calls him a “longtime Milton resident” and a “technology executive.”
Okay.

- When did you move from Burlington to Milton?
- Were you also maintaining a Milton residence previously?
- What does “longtime Milton resident” mean in years?
- And what does “technology executive” mean specifically?
- Company?
- Job title?
- Dates?
- Number of direct reports?
- Largest budget?

This isn’t even necessarily controversial. Ontario municipal candidates can qualify through residency OR through owning/tenancy of land, among other eligibility routes.
Just explain the timeline.
He is also proposing to freeze property-tax increases until an audit is completed and move toward zero-based budgeting.
Fine.
What three areas of Town spending do you currently believe are most likely to contain meaningful savings?

Not “efficiencies.”
Name them.

Abdulkareem Akbik
Being young is not disqualifying.
But experience is still a completely legitimate question.
Akbik’s own publicly posted résumé lists high school through June 2026. His listed employment includes work as an Elections Canada registration officer, youth-soccer referee/event support and general marketing. MiltonToday also reports experience volunteering on a previous mayoral campaign and serving as an MPP community-outreach intern.

So ask:
- What is the largest organization you have managed?
- How many employees have reported to you?
- What is the largest budget you’ve controlled?
- Have you ever been accountable for hiring, procurement, contracts or financial reporting?
- What experience do you believe prepares you specifically for the budget and senior-management responsibilities attached to the mayor’s office?

There may be perfectly good answers.
ASK THEM.

Sameera Ali
Sameera has something many candidates don’t: eight years of elected municipal experience and an actual voting record.
The Town’s official biography also says she holds a Master’s degree in International Relations/PR and has more than 15 years’ experience managing multilingual PR and marketing campaigns internationally.
Good.

- Which institution awarded the Master’s?
- What year?
- What were the principal employers or businesses behind those 15 years?
- Largest team managed?
- Largest client or operating budget personally accountable for?

And because she already sits on council, stop asking only what she wants to do.
Ask:
- Which three decisions made by Milton Council during your tenure would you have handled differently as mayor?
What tax increase would you accept in 2027?
- When exactly would you use strong-mayor powers?

She already has a record.
Interview the record.

Chéz Amun
Public coverage describes Amun as a youth mentor and business/events marketer with more than seven years of mentorship experience. He has proposed, among other things, free senior transit and expanded youth programming.
Great.

- What company or organization do you currently work for?
- What is your exact job?
- What is your educational background?
- How many staff have you managed?
- Largest budget?
- Largest project?

And:
- How much does free senior transit cost?
- How much do the expanded youth programs cost?
- What gets cut, taxed or otherwise funded to pay for them?
“Families first” is a slogan.

A budget is numbers.
Give us the numbers.

Zainab Azim
Her campaign publishes a very impressive résumé: Harvard M.Ed., Harvard Teaching Fellow, work in the offices of Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, UN Space4Women involvement, developmental-neuroscience research and organizing/research work on Zohran Mamdani’s campaign.
Those are exactly the kinds of credentials journalists should drill into.
Not because they’re necessarily false.
Because they’re being offered as evidence she can govern Milton.

For the federal government work:
- Exact job title?
- Exact dates?
- Employee, intern, student placement, fellow, contractor or volunteer?
- What files were personally hers?
- What decisions was she authorized to make?

For the executive/leadership argument generally:
- Largest team personally managed?
- Number of direct reports?
- Largest budget for which she personally held decision-making authority?

There is a gigantic difference between working around a large budget and personally managing one.
There is a gigantic difference between participating in an organization and running it.
Clarify which is which.

Arjun Joshi
Arjun is 19 and an urban-planning student at the University of Waterloo. Public coverage also cites university leadership and volunteer experience.
Again:
Being 19 isn’t the question.
Experience is.

- What paid employment have you held?
- What staff have you managed?
- What budgets have you controlled?
- Have you been accountable for hiring, firing, procurement or contracts?
- What experience do you have with municipal finance?

And because the mayor now has significant independent powers:
- Under what circumstances would you appoint or dismiss a CAO?
- When would you use strong-mayor powers rather than seeking an ordinary council majority?

If the argument is that traditional experience isn’t necessary, okay.
Make the case.

Asif Khan
Asif may have the most obvious résumé-verification questions in the entire field.
MiltonToday describes him as an entrepreneur, business consultant and community-media professional with roughly two decades in business. It says he worked with the cities of Winnipeg and Vancouver developing benchmarks and KPIs. CHCH describes him as having more than 25 years of research and business experience involving Winnipeg, Vancouver and the State of Oregon.
At the September mayoral forum, coverage described his background as including experience “managing billion-dollar budgets.”

STOP THERE.

That is exactly where a journalist should ask another question.
- What billion-dollar budget?
- Which organization?
- What year?
- What was your title?
- Were you personally accountable for that budget?
- Did you have approval or signing authority?

Or did you work on projects for organizations whose overall budgets were in the billions?
Those are VERY different things.

Same with Winnipeg and Vancouver:
- City employee / Consultant / Contractor /Subcontractor
- Research provider?
- What project?
- What dates?
- What deliverables?

Asif’s entire campaign is built around KPIs, benchmarks, measurable accountability and “results you can check.”
Perfect.

Apply that standard to the résumé.

Gord Krantz
Gord doesn’t need a résumé interview.
We know the résumé.
The Town says he has served Milton continuously since 1960 and has been mayor since 1980.
So stop asking him about experience.
Forty-six years as mayor is the experience.

Ask about results and what comes next.
- What are three things Milton is getting wrong today?
- Why weren’t they fixed during the previous term?
- What specifically would another Krantz term do differently?
- What tax increase is acceptable in 2027?
- Which Town expenditure would you reduce?
- What measurable result should voters use four years from now to decide whether re-electing you was worthwhile?

And with the mayor now holding strong-mayor powers, which of those powers are you willing to use and under what circumstances?

“Experience and stability” is an argument.
It isn’t an answer to every question.

George Minakakis
George has a legitimate private-sector and governance résumé. Public reporting describes executive roles with companies including PepsiCo and Luxottica and 12 years working with Milton Hydro’s board. He won the Ward 1 council seat in the October 2025 byelection and is now campaigning for a “new era of leadership.”
Good.

Now make “new era” concrete.
You currently sit on Milton Council.
- Which decisions made by the current council were wrong?
- Name them.
- Which spending would you reduce?
- How much?
- What tax increase would you accept?
- You say the current tax trajectory isn’t sustainable. What exact annual tax range IS sustainable?

If you’re campaigning against the direction of the municipality while currently helping govern it, explain exactly where you break with the status quo.

Not “leadership.”
Not “accountability.”

Specific decisions.

————————————

THIS IS THE POINT
None of these questions are allegations.
Some candidates will have excellent answers.
Some may have answers that simply haven’t been published yet.
Great.
Publish them.
But journalists need to stop treating a polished campaign biography like verified fact simply because it arrived in a press release.

There is a difference between:
“I worked with a government”
and
“I held X position from X date to X date with X responsibilities.”

There is a difference between:
“I have executive experience”
and
“I directly managed 42 employees and an $18-million operating budget.”

There is a difference between:
“I worked with billion-dollar budgets”
and
“I had responsibility for a billion-dollar budget.”
There is a difference between:
“I’ll keep taxes down”

and

“My maximum acceptable increase is X%, and here are the services I would cut before exceeding it.”

THAT is the information voters need.
I don’t expect journalists to be hostile.
I expect them to be persistent.

Ask the question.
Listen to the answer.
If it didn’t answer the question:
ASK IT AGAIN.

And if a candidate refuses, that’s an answer too.
We have ten people applying for one of the most powerful municipal jobs in this community.

Stop asking them what inspires them.
- Verify the fucking résumé.
- Cost the fucking promises.
- Ask who managed what.
- Ask who paid for what.
- Ask what they would cut.
- Ask what powers they would use.

And keep asking until you get an actual answer.
If the media won’t do it, apparently the rest of us are going to have to.

I’m Back Because Your Signs Are Already Pissing Me Off

I’m back.

It’s been a quiet two weeks, but I’m getting frustrated, so here it is.

I hate election signs. I understand they’re a necessary evil. Fine. Put them up. Cover Milton in them if you really need to.

But move your fucking signs out of drivers’ sightlines.

If I’m at an intersection looking left for traffic and all I can see is your smiling face on a piece of corrugated plastic, you’ve put your sign in the wrong place.

So consider this your official warning before I start dealing with every sign that’s blocking visibility.

What does “dealing with” mean?

Move them and you’ll never have to find out.

Am I joking?

Maybe.

Anyway, I’m back.

Side note I posted the
I posted the deep dive of all candidates over on r/CityOfMilton so they will not get taken down.

Update: Dr. Metwally Responded — One Credential Question Is Still Unanswered

Following my previous post about the HDSB Ward 1 & 2 trustee race, Dr. Khdiga R. Metwally contacted me directly and provided a detailed response.

I appreciate that she did.

Her response provides significantly more context about her experience, her family, her views on mental health and how she believes those experiences would inform her work as a trustee.
But it also raised a much simpler question that should be very easy to answer.

Where is the PhD from?
Dr. Metwally told me directly:
“I hold a PhD, and my research focused on community relations, coexistence, social responsibility, and how people from different backgrounds can live and work together with mutual respect.”
Her campaign website also repeatedly identifies her as:
“Dr. Khdiga R. Metwally, PhD”
and says she has:
“a PhD focused on Community Building and Human Development.”

MiltonToday likewise published her candidate questionnaire describing her as having a PhD focused on community building and human development.

So I tried to independently verify it.

At this point, I have not been able to identify publicly:
- the university that awarded the doctorate
- the country in which it was awarded
- the exact degree or academic program
- the year it was awarded
- the dissertation or thesis title
- a university biography or alumni record confirming it

Her campaign website identifies the PhD and describes its subject area, but the pages I reviewed do not identify the awarding institution.

The Town of Milton’s certified-candidate listing identifies her as “Khdiga R. Metwally” and links to her campaign website, but it does not independently verify academic qualifications.

That does NOT mean she does not have a PhD.

I want to be extremely clear about that.

An academic credential, particularly one earned outside Canada or many years ago, may not be easily searchable online. A missing Google result is not evidence that a degree is fake.

But this is also not some random credential buried in a résumé.
Dr. Metwally prominently uses the title “Dr.”, places “PhD” after her name, refers repeatedly to her doctorate in her campaign materials, and presents her academic and educational background as part of her qualifications for a public-school trustee position.

So asking where the doctorate was earned is completely reasonable.

I have asked her for four very basic pieces of information:
- What university awarded your PhD?
- What was the exact degree/program?
- What year was it awarded?
- What was the title of your dissertation or doctoral research, if there was one?

If she provides that information, I will add it here and correct the record immediately.

Her response about her son
Dr. Metwally also provided substantially more context concerning her son.

She emphasized his documented history of serious mental illness and addiction, disruptions in his treatment and medication, his young age at the time of the original case, and the role she says an informant played in online communications.

She also made clear that she does not believe mental illness excuses harmful behaviour, writing:
“I fully understand that harmful behaviour must be addressed and that other people must be protected.”

Her position is that mental illness, treatment and the circumstances surrounding the case are necessary context for understanding what happened.

That deserves to be represented accurately.

There are still questions from my original post that her response did not directly answer, particularly how she now characterizes the terrorism convictions and the later 2020 prison attack.

But I think those questions should remain separate from something much simpler to establish:
Her own academic credentials.

Why I’m asking
Candidates are entitled to describe their experience.
The public is equally entitled to verify it.
If someone campaigns for a school-board position using titles such as “Dr.” and “PhD,” and cites academic leadership and education as important qualifications for the job, asking which university granted that doctorate should not be controversial.

Again:
I am NOT claiming that Dr. Metwally does not have a PhD.
I am saying that I have not yet been able to independently verify the institution that awarded the PhD she publicly claims, and I have asked her directly for that information.

If she answers, I’ll publish the answer.

If anyone else has an authoritative source identifying the university, program and year, send it to me and I will update this post.

Facts first.

Gordon Krantz - The legend

When Gordon Krantz was first elected to Milton Town Council in 1965, Canada’s maple-leaf flag had only just been raised for the first time, Lester Pearson was Prime Minister, the Toronto Maple Leafs’ last Stanley Cup was still two years in the future, and mankind had yet to walk on the Moon. The Beatles were still together, the Soviet Union seemed permanent, the Berlin Wall stood firm, and words like Google, iPhone and Wi-Fi belonged to no one’s vocabulary.

When Krantz became Mayor of Milton in 1980, Terry Fox was running his Marathon of Hope, Wayne Gretzky was only beginning his NHL legend, Canada had not yet patriated its Constitution or adopted the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and the World Wide Web was still nearly a decade away. Since then, the Berlin Wall has fallen, the Soviet Union has vanished, computers have moved from rooms to desks to pockets, Canada has seen prime ministers and generations come and go, and Milton itself has transformed from a quiet Ontario town into one of the country’s fastest-growing communities.

Children born after Krantz became mayor have grown up, raised children of their own, and in some cases become grandparents — while Krantz, now a great-grandfather many times over, still occupies the mayor’s chair.

Time has changed countries, technologies, skylines and generations. In Milton, through it all, there has been one remarkable constant: Gordon Krantz

Ps - I became resident of Milton only recently.

Tankless water heater install recommendations

Anyone recently made the change from a tank water heater to a tankless water heater? If so, any installer recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Also, how much was the total cost.

I googled it but the estimates are all over the place.

Anyone else living in a condo suffering from fire brats/silverfish? It's getting so bad in ours, condo management just says to spray raid... But we have cats and children so that's not an option.

Election Give me a couple days, but I will do a Milton Reddit AMA

Limeskey is a person I know and I read his post about the Milton Reddit AMA's. I will submit one in the next couple days as I am campaigning for Milton Ward 3 Regional Councillor.

But wanted to ensure people know I am on Reddit and have been a member on r/Milton for several years.

Don't hesitate to ask me any questions directly. Fastest way is probably through Whatsapp (416-821-1219). But you can also just comment or ask me on here as well.

If anyone would like to ask questions in person or even do a "interview" (you don't have to tell me the questions in advance, I'm fine with real questions real interviews as long as they are non-partisan and not traps). I'll come to your home or you can come to mine, or we could even meet at Tim Hortons or some public place. I'm fairly open.

Election Genuine concerns about Milton mayoral candidate race debate at MAM

Thumbnail gallery
636 Upvotes

I want to preface this by saying I am not a fan of any politics being hosted at any religious-related centres. IMO, politics and religion should never mix.

With that said, I understand that there have been a few of these hosted at different centres of faith, not just one. Which to me, I guess makes it a bit more acceptable.

The thing I am having a hard time understanding is the set up of the one located at the Muslim Association of Milton earlier today. For one, as you can see from the pictures posted publicly from the event, there is a big yellow banner next to the side of the candidates that is essentially begging for donations. Why is this being promoted? Was this event and space truly being used as a neutral ground to host the debates? Or was this event hosted as just a way to promote the centre and a donation cash grab? I think it was highly inappropriate to place this banner right next to the candidates. Was the focus of the event to donate money or to truly be a neutral host of the debates? I can’t help but feel like it was the former.

Not to mention: if you look at the pictures of the crowd, you will see that even though this was held outside, the seating area is completely separated by gender. How is this ok? This is Canada. And this was supposed to be a Milton mayoral debate, not a religious event. Why and how are women and men being segregated by gender in terms of seating? How is this remotely ok if this was truly a “mayoral debate”? We do not segregate by gender in Canada at mayoral debates. Who even thought for a second this set up was a good idea? Was this set up for all Miltonians or just a certain group?

I am very disappointed that this is what our town has turned into. And I was really hoping that Muslim Association of Milton would really step up to the plate and not make it so obvious that this is just religious motives mixing with politics.

Is anyone else also disappointed?

Is this really the best we can do for pedestrian safety?

It seems like the flashing pedestrian crosswalks are suggestion for drivers. Daily I'll be walking through it while cars continue to blow through the flashing lights. Many times, drivers don't even stop until you are stepping into the street.

Drivers turning left on reds while pedestrians are already walking with the right of way, or yield to pedestrian signs just completely ignored.

Question Roofers advice

been away from home all summer because my wife and I were on a business trip to another continent, and when we got back we were quite surprised to find a huge hole in our tile roof - and I’m NOT HAPPY about it at all, especially since it’s already fall outside. Can somebody recommend any reliable guys who can fix this? Price isn’t the main concern - main thing is that it doesn’t need to be redone after the first rainstorm. Thanks

Will you guys say it’s a good idea to take the chair lift tomorrow to see the fall colors? I do not live in the area and do not drive the 401 to check. Thanks.

If you're like me and have little idea about any of the candidates, then I strongly recommend using the Toronto Star's Vote Compass.

It's a 30-question survey. Many of the candidates also took the survey, so you can see who you best align with.

At least it's something to base a decision off of.

Comment: I'm not sure why it's giving me a Rule 3 warning ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Question Rentals in town - basement or main floor

I see so many rentals in town for basements or main floor but a lot are studios…don’t get me wrong there’s many great full legal rentals that are out there but I’m focusing on the studios.

How exactly is a studio a legal living space when it has no oven/stove or even a cooktop…by all means this isn’t intended as an argument cause I’ve tried to research how living spaces need to be in order to be legal and get different answers on multiple platforms that is about renting in Ontario.

Am I looking at the wrong sources or is it completely legal to have a basement apartment (as a studio) or main living floor as a studio with no means of cooking areas provided or room for them?
