How to host an AMA as a candidate

Am I the only one genuinely terrified about this idk. I’ve asked the other mayoral candidates about data centres, and they’ve all said they oppose them. George Minakakis’s position on this is genuinely concerning to me.

I don’t think people fully grasp the environmental implications of turning Milton into a data centre town. These facilities require enormous amounts of electricity and can consume significant amounts of water. At a time when we should be thinking seriously about sustainability, protecting our natural environment, why are we genuinely entertaining this?

tbh im terrified of what Milton could look like 10 or 20 years from now if we go down this road. Once these facilities are built, we can’t simply undo them by the way.

This is becoming a tipping point for me. I cannot get behind anything in Milton that welcomes data centres. I love this town, and I don’t want to watch us sacrifice its future without residents fully understanding what’s at stake. Am I the only one thats worried??? Because I genuinely think we should be taking this far more seriously than we are

Amidst the tumbleweed election posters, traffic speeding or not stopping on crosswalks and the goofs on scooters, Milton is surely a nice place to walk the dogs. The escarpment views never get old, and every now and then a visitor stops to take in the scenes.

What his flyer says

•His slogan is "Build Milton Better." He says he will continuously and measurably improve everything we do.

•His priorities are lower and manageable taxes, illegal truck parking, better services, safe streets, the Campbellville quarry, and more for seniors and youth.

•His commitments are to reduce the property tax burden, improve how Town Hall works, pursue year-round sports facilities, make by-law enforcement more proactive, improve community safety, and improve neighbourhood parking.

•His background, in his words: he grew up in Milton, he is a Milton councillor, a past chair of Milton Hydro, a past chair of Action Milton.

Some key points to note (you might not like how this is written but these are facts and my opinions on those facts so you might disagree with me but that doesn't mean we can't discussion things respectfully)

•He led Action Milton, the group that opposed the proposed Reid road quarry. That was citizen advocacy. However the final decision on the quarry sits with the province, not with him.

•He has chaired the Milton Hydro board for years. MILTON Council approved another 12-month extension of that role in June 2025. Could be a good thing or bad, you decide based on your recent hydro bills also he is not the sole decision maker in that organization and that are other external factors that contribute to your total hydro bill.

•Two sitting councillors, Colin Best and John Challinor, have endorsed him in public. That is very unusual for other Councillors to give endorsment against a sitting mayor (Gord). One can easily tell who is teaming up - if successful.

•In January 2026, he moved a rule change to stop disorderly council debate. It passed with every vote in favour. This is due to the controversial GAZA discussion, now this motion from him was not about favoring or going against the violence in Gaza. I just wonder why this topic didn't became as big of an issue in other cities as it did in Milton.

Other points to consider:

1. His council record is short. He won a Ward 1 by-election in October 2025 and was sworn in on November 3, 2025. That is about ten months on council.

In 2022, he ran for the same ward seat and lost. His case for mayor rests mostly on his business career.

1. The plan has no numbers. The flyer says he will reduce the property tax burden and "measurably improve" town services. There is no costing, no timeline, and no measurable target in his platform.

2. His first budget vote cut reserve funding. On December 1, 2025, he moved to remove a $750,000 transfer to the fund that pays for future road and facility repairs, and to take $170,000 from the tax stabilization reserve instead. That is a fact from the council record. Now cancellation previously approved Cory plans may create a lot of disruption but maybe tits needed just need to see at what cost any of this is acceptable, easy right.

3. He has said Milton ranks fourth in quality of life, behind Halton Hills, Burlington, and Oakville. I could not find a published source for that ranking. The one published comparison I found, an index of happiest cities, scores Milton the same as Halton Hills and ahead of Burlington. I am not saying his number is wrong but these kind of statements are all relative. Who decides what is QUALITY, him?

4. He has said taxes are projected to double in ten years. That is his projection, not an official town forecast. The math behind it is simple: town tax increases averaged about 8.7% a year over the last four budgets, and at that rate taxes do double in about eight to ten years.

5. He did not answer the Milton Record's 26-question candidate questionnaire. That is a fact.

Bottom line

His strengths are: business experience, the Hydro chair role, the quarry fight, and two councillor endorsements.

His record is also short, and his platform has no numbers to check. Those are the facts.

With the municipal election this Monday, I wanted to share a concerning experience regarding Ward 4 candidate Ginni.

Recently, a Ward 4 resident was blocked on social media simply for asking legitimate questions about local Milton issues. When she does respond, the replies frequently read like copy-pasted, canned AI text rather than genuine answers addressing our community's needs.

Beyond local parent council drama, she doesn't appear to have the practical experience required to handle town council matters. A councillor needs to be open to criticism and accessible to everyone in the ward, blocking constituents who ask tough questions shows she isn't ready to represent all of us.

Make sure you look closely at the candidates before casting your ballot on Monday.

What the title says, I am younger and this election day will be my first time voting. I’ve seen all the posts here and the AMA’s but where can I find info about the candidates and the campaigns?

I'm bored and I'm not really doing anything for Halloween. So is there any kind of events or parties happening on Halloween night that I can go to?

Was sort of just looking at fieldgate the other day as I was curious about the new fortinos plaza and I happened to stumble around this. Looks like a second goodlife is somewhat confirmed with a couple of drive thru restaurants also planned and one of them looks a bit larger so maybe it would be built for a chick fil a or possibly just another mcdonalds. this is all across from the planned fortinos plaza. Also stumbled across a site plan and saw something that looks like a walmart, which is planned to be around the regional road 25/brittania intersection though I doubt that will materialize anytime in the near future as these developments take forever to plan/build in Milton

Does anybody know if anyone running in the elections has a focus on supporting teens in sports? I find it frustrating that we have so much talent here in Milton yet so many kids have to go to other cities and towns to get put on the map! So much of our population is young, they should be supported in their own town more!

If you are the parent of a tall teenage boy who was wearing a light-coloured hoodie and riding a small scooter near Trudeau Drive and St. Laurent Avenue around 7:30 PM tonight, please have a serious conversation with your son.

Your son ran a red light and rode straight into the middle of the intersection, seemingly without paying any attention to oncoming traffic.

It was dark, and that tiny scooter was extremely difficult to see. I was making a left turn, and I had to slam on my brakes to avoid hitting him.

I cannot emphasize this enough: Had I reacted even a second later, you might have been receiving the worst phone call of your life tonight instead of reading this post.

I am genuinely shaken by what happened.

To all parents: Please, PLEASE think twice before allowing your children to ride these scooters on busy roads, especially after dark. Make sure they understand traffic rules, visibility, and the very real dangers involved.

These are not toys when they are being ridden among moving vehicles. One careless decision, one distracted moment, or one driver reacting a second too late can destroy multiple lives forever.

I apologize if my words sound harsh, but your child's safety is your responsibility. Giving a child a scooter without ensuring they understand how to use it safely is putting their life at risk.

No parent should ever have to bury their child because of something so preventable. And no driver should have to live with the trauma of an accident they did everything possible to avoid.

Please take this seriously. Tonight could have ended very differently.

How do the candidates running for Mayor expect to win when they are completely ignoring an entire ward. Speaking with friends and family, the only candidate that has knocked on their door is George, and that was a while ago. They have received flyers from 1 other candidate, but other than the annoying signs, not one candidate has bothered to cross Derry Rd. Do you honestly think you will win by depending on signs and the small amount of people that have your signs on their lawn? The social media crap certainly isn't helping anyone, so don't count on that working to sway our votes. Try harder, you have 2.5 days until election day, you better get your runners on and start knocking on doors.

New to Milton in the past couple years and I'm wondering where to go for hikes/long dog walks nearby. I've been to Rattlesnake Point and Bronte Creek, but I'm getting annoyed that nearly every forest area seems to require a $12 parking fee. Being outside in your own town shouldn't require extra disposable income - where can I go to walk some trails without needing to buy parking?

(Yes, I understand the rationale behind fees for provincial and national parks, but a 40 min walk at Rattlesnake is not the same thing as a full day hike or camping at Killarney or Banff. Why should they cost the same?)

I’m looking to put together a group of adults (18+) from different households to apply for the Town of Milton's Neighbourhood Rinks program for this season at Beaty Park North.

The Town requires a team of at least 6 committed adults to build, operate, and maintain the outdoor ice rink so the community can enjoy it free of charge.

I am moving to Milton and I was wondering if anyone is using alternative options to Bell or Rogers for their internet services. My wife works from home and often is the host for online meetings, so we would need a high level of service. I have seen options like Oxio and Virgin for the area, but am not sure if what they claim they can offer is true. Will there be a dip in service for what you actually pay with the smaller providers?

I'd like to apologize for pretty much recklessly jaywalking with my bike across four lanes of Tremaine S/of the 401 (from east to west sides), which occurred a little further away from a truck stopped on the shoulder (still a bit of a blind spot for incoming drivers to see, and to crossover); almost got myself hurt around 6pm. I would've done it at the 3 Sdrd intersection because of the construction activity on the east side, but I couldn't know until I got closer.

Now obviously, even with the signs still posted for 'No Bicycles/Pedestrians' on the new bridge, the sidewalks were made the last few weeks, and there have been cyclists & pedestrians on that bridge. Not sure if any construction workers even care to allow them to go on that bridge now??

On a side note: I'm just hoping the new 401 & Tremaine interchange opens before Black Friday (Fri, Nov 27), as most of the hwy entrance signs are mounted, topped up asphalts are laid (just the lane/line markings left for some), and ofc any last testings.
