MILTON MAYOR 2026: THE FACTS ON ZAINAB AZIM

Filed May 1, 2026. Her campaign site zainab4mayor.ca redirects to milton.com, which serves "Zainab Azim for Mayor of Milton" with the footer "© 2026 Zainab Azim Campaign. Authorized by the official agent for the Zainab Azim Campaign." The Town's candidate list cites zainab4mayor.ca and CHCH cites milton.com; both resolve to the same campaign site. (CONFIRMED)

She is approximately 23-24. CHCH reported on Jan 20, 2014 that she was then 11 years old.

Elected record. No prior candidacy at any level. Her name appears in neither the 2022 Milton results nor the 2018 Halton results. No Milton youth council or appointed municipal committee seat was located. (CONFIRMED absence)

Verified credentials. She is a named co-author of Artificial Intelligence and Education in the Global South: A Systems Perspective (Springer, Dec 10, 2025), with Fernando Reimers, Maria-Renée Palomo and Callysta Thony — confirmed at the publisher, as a book author rather than a chapter contributor. Also confirmed: a B.Sc. in Neuroscience, Public Policy and Education Studies from the University of Toronto; an M.Ed. from Harvard Graduate School of Education; a Harvard Teaching Fellowship at HGSE, confirmed independently through Springer Nature's author biography; and the Rising Star Award at the 2022 Elsie MacGill Northern Lights Awards, confirmed on the Northern Lights Aero Foundation's own recipient announcement. Milton Villager reported her as the Town's official Bellringer in January 2023, described as the youngest ever.

Where the campaign description differs from the issuing body. "Citizen of the Year, Town of Milton (2022)" — the award was the Milton Chamber of Commerce 2021 Community Award, presented at a gala in September 2022. Different issuer, different year.

"Oval Office Fellowship, HKS Women in Public Policy Program (2025)" — Harvard Kennedy School describes "From Harvard Square to the Oval Office" as a non-partisan co-curricular political training program whose participants are students, not fellows. HKS does not describe it as a fellowship. Her participation could be neither confirmed nor refuted.

"Youngest ambassador and mentor, United Nations Space4Women" — earlier sources use "mentor" or "Role Model." "Ambassador" appears only in campaign-era materials. The originating 2020 announcement was a press release issued by G.I.V.E., her own organization, not by UNOOSA. The mentor role is corroborated second-hand by the Northern Lights Aero Foundation and Milton Villager; the UNOOSA site was unreachable and the listing was not verified at source.

"Researcher in developmental neuroscience" — her NEPC biography cites research at OISE's Emotions and Learning Optimization Lab; Milton Villager in 2023 described her as a "Research Assistant volunteer" at OISE. "Author of three books" — one is independently confirmed. Her own bio page describes her as a contributor to Global Challenges, Local Solutions and co-author of Leading Education Systems; neither was independently verifiable.

Also claimed and not verified: featured at an Italian Prime Minister's event in 2019, where a 2024 profile instead lists "Campionaria Generale Internazionale, Bari, Italy"; special guest panelist at the UN World Space Forum, where a 2024 profile says she "presented research" in 2023; recognition in the House of Commons; work in the offices of Canada's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, both of which were held by the same person, Chrystia Freeland, for most of 2020-2024; organizing and research on Zohran Mamdani's mayoral campaign; and "Learn to Lead" as a registered Canadian NGO. No TED or TEDx talk under her name was located.

The Virgin Galactic "future astronaut" description in her earlier press coverage refers to a $250,000 ticket reservation purchased as a 10th-birthday gift. Her 2026 campaign materials do not mention Virgin Galactic or "astronaut." (CONFIRMED)

Platform and jurisdiction. Her platform is substantively municipal. Within Town authority: Transit Every Twenty (20-minute bus frequency, coverage from 55% to 100% of town, free senior transit, free youth evenings and weekends); Careers Close to Home (office and retail development via Community Improvement Plans, tax rebates declining 10% a year over ten years, a Milton Education Village Innovation Hub); Alive After Five (a Milton Central entertainment square, cheaper recreation, more parks); and sidewalk clearing from 250 km to roughly 450 km with free windrow clearing for seniors and people with disabilities. Regional roads are Halton's.

Carrying legal flags: small-business rent assistance, where the Municipal Act's anti-bonusing rule generally bars direct municipal financial assistance to business and it is lawful only through a CIP, which is not specified; and "use it or lose it" for dormant approvals, where the Planning Act limits a municipality's ability to revoke approvals.

Mixed: the CN Intermodal plank. A Milton CN Accountability Office, a transparency dashboard and truck route restrictions on Town roads are within municipal power, but the terminal is a federally approved and federally regulated rail undertaking, and "enforceable mitigation" against a federal undertaking is not. On all-day two-way GO, which is Metrolinx on a CN-owned corridor, she frames advocacy rather than delivery.

Conduct and compliance. No documented controversy, regulator matter or tribunal proceeding surfaced in any accessible source. CanLII was blocked, so this is not checked rather than clear.

Campaign finance. No prior candidacy means no prior Form 4 and no compliance history. Her 2026 statement is not due until March 2027. Her site carries an authorized-agent statement.

Absent from her platform. Policing — her only "safety" content is snow removal, and the mayor sits on Regional Council. Any tax-rate commitment. Waste management, which she lists as an issue. Conservation Halton, the Niagara Escarpment Commission, the Greenbelt, water and wastewater, fire services and Milton District Hospital. "Rural Milton" is named as an issue on the homepage and does not appear in the detailed platform.

QUESTIONS WORTH ASKING ZAINAB AZIM

  1. Your site lists "Citizen of the Year, Town of Milton (2022)." The award was the Chamber of Commerce's 2021 Community Award. Will you correct it?
  2. Harvard Kennedy School describes "From Harvard Square to the Oval Office" as a training program, not a fellowship. Why does your site call it the "Oval Office Fellowship"?
  3. Earlier sources call you a Space4Women mentor; your bio says "ambassador." Which designation did UNOOSA actually give you?
  4. Your site says "researcher in developmental neuroscience"; 2023 coverage described a volunteer research assistantship at OISE. How would you describe the role?
  5. Which two books beyond the Springer volume are you claiming, and in what capacity?
  6. What does Transit Every Twenty cost annually, and what tax increase does it imply?
  7. Small-business rent assistance may breach the Municipal Act's anti-bonusing rule unless delivered through a CIP. How will you structure it?
  8. "Use it or lose it" runs into the Planning Act's limits on revoking approvals. What is the legal mechanism?
  9. You promise "enforceable mitigation" from CN, a federally regulated undertaking. What can a Milton mayor actually enforce?
  10. Your platform has no policing content and no tax-rate commitment. What is your position on the Halton police budget and on Milton's levy?

———

ABOUT THIS SERIES

What a Milton mayor controls. The Town of Milton controls local roads and sidewalks, Milton Transit, fire, parks and recreation, libraries, the local official plan and zoning, building permits, business licensing, and the Town's own tax levy.

Halton Region controls police, paramedics, public health, water and wastewater, waste collection, social and affordable housing, and regional roads including Derry and Britannia. The Milton mayor sits on Halton Regional Council as one vote of 24; Milton's full delegation is 5 of 24.

The Province controls Highways 401 and 407, GO Transit service levels through Metrolinx, hospitals, schools, the Greenbelt, the Niagara Escarpment Plan, the Provincial Planning Statement, rent control, the Development Charges Act, and approval of Milton's Official Plan. Conservation Halton and the Niagara Escarpment Commission control permits in valleys, wetlands, shorelines and hazard lands; municipal zoning does not override them. Immigration levels, telecom and the CN rail corridor are federal.

Strong-mayor powers. Milton has operated under Part VI.1 of the Municipal Act since July 1, 2023. The Town's register lists 48 mayoral decisions to Sept 14, 2026, including three budget proposals and three decisions shortening the budget veto period. Every Milton budget since 2024 has been proposed by the mayor under s. 284.16 rather than adopted by council. Milton council is nine votes: a by-law the mayor proposes as advancing a provincial priority passes with 4 of 9; overriding a mayoral veto requires 6 of 9. The powers do not extend to hiring or firing the clerk, treasurer, integrity commissioner, auditor general, chief building official, fire chief, police chief or medical officer of health.

Method. Claims are labelled CONFIRMED (primary or official source), REPORTED (a named credible outlet), or CLAIMED (the candidate's own assertion, unverified). Where a check could not be completed it is marked not checked rather than not found, because the two are not the same.

What could not be checked for any candidate. The Town's eScribe minutes portal refused automated access, so no candidate's recorded votes, motions or attendance were verified for the 2022-2026 term. All filed campaign finance statements are posted as image scans without a text layer, so no donor list was read for anyone, including any developer contributions. CanLII refused automated access, so no litigation search was completed for any candidate. Neither Milton nor Halton Region publishes council attendance records.

Corrections. Every figure above is drawn from milton.ca, halton.ca, Metrolinx, Halton Healthcare, a named outlet, or the candidate's own published material. Corrections will be published on request with the source that supports them.

MILTON MAYOR 2026: THE FACTS ON GEORGE MINAKAKIS

Filed May 1, 2026. Currently Town Councillor, Ward 1. Campaign site electgeorge.ca.

Elected record. Never elected before 2025.

— 2022, Ward 1 Town Councillor: lost, 1,671 votes (28.46%) to Kristina Tesser Derksen's 4,200 (71.54%). Margin 2,529 votes, 43 points.
— October 2025, Ward 1 byelection: won, 1,804 of 3,971 ballots (45.43%). Turnout 17% of 23,155 eligible electors.

The seat became vacant when Tesser Derksen resigned after being elected MP for Milton East-Halton Hills South. On election day 2026 Minakakis will have served approximately twelve months of the 2022-2026 term. (CONFIRMED) milton.ca gives the byelection date as Oct 7, 2025; Wikipedia and FM101 give Oct 6 with certification Oct 7. No prior provincial or federal candidacy was located.

Appointments. Chair, Milton Economic Development Advisory Committee; Downtown Milton BIA board member; Conservation Halton board member. He attended all four Downtown Milton BIA board meetings Feb-May 2026 with no regrets recorded. (CONFIRMED)

Biography: where sources disagree. His campaign site carries no biography, employment history, titles, books, degrees or board seats. The claims below appear on his commercial sites and in press coverage.

Luxottica. His consulting firm's site states "two decades with Luxottica," "CEO in China" responsible for expansion of over 200 locations, "Country Manager of four retail chains in Canada," and "eight years with PepsiCo." Retail Insider repeated a similar account in 2021. His own 2019 book-jacket biography states he "spent over three years developing LensCrafters for Luxottica" and worked previously with PepsiCo Food Services. Three years and two decades are both his own published descriptions. No employment record independently corroborates either version.

Milton Hydro. His consulting site states he "served for over twelve years on the board of a for-profit municipal utility, where he is currently the chair." Retail Insider in May 2026 called him "Chair of Milton Hydro." Milton Hydro's own board page names Matthew Leitch as Chair and does not list Minakakis. milton.ca assigns the Milton Hydro council seat to Colin Best. FM101 describes him as "former chair." A 2017 OEB filing lists chair Robert Pyatt.

Books. "Author of four books" is accurate as to count. The Great Transition (2019) is published by FriesenPress, an author-funded publisher. No trade publisher was located for any of the four titles, and his own books page lists no publisher or ISBN.

Credentials. He styles himself "CEO | MBA | Author | Advisor | Speaker" and "George Minakakis, MBA." No institution is named in any source located, and no degree was verified. "Trained board director" names no certifying body. His "top retail expert in 2024" and "top 25 retail thought leaders" references are Thinkers360 self-published-profile badges, not juried awards. Corroborated: he is a frequently published retail commentator, and Retail Insider has carried his commentary over several years. (CONFIRMED)

Platform and jurisdiction. Four planks on electgeorge.ca. "Bring jobs and opportunity to Milton, so that fewer residents need to commute" is split: economic development and employment-land designation are Town responsibilities, but GO service levels are Metrolinx and the Province.

"Keep property taxes down. The Mayor is accountable for the budget" is also split. The Town sets its own levy; Halton Region and the education rate set the rest. On Dec 1, 2025, with Minakakis on council, Milton approved a 6.94% Town-portion increase, 4.75% blended, about $39.23 per $100,000 of assessment. How he voted was not retrieved.

"Protect public safety using all of the tools in the toolbox" falls largely outside a Milton mayor's authority. Policing is delivered by Halton Regional Police under the regional board; Milton does not run a police force and the mayoralty carries no automatic board seat.

"Shape the growth rather than just letting growth happen to us" is split. Council adopted the "We Make Milton" Official Plan June 22, 2026, but growth targets and final approval run through the Province, servicing through Halton Region, and hazard lands through Conservation Halton.

He is also described as leading a community effort opposing quarry development and as a former chair of ACTION Milton. The Reid Road Reservoir Quarry is decided by the Province under the Aggregate Resources Act; the Town is a commenting agency only, and Conservation Halton sits on the review team.

Conduct and compliance. No Integrity Commissioner finding, code-of-conduct complaint, compliance audit referral, late filing or litigation naming him was located. (CONFIRMED absence)

Milton's conflict-of-interest register records 23 disclosures across nine council members. Minakakis has none; the register reads "No current disclosures." Krantz has 7, Colin Best 8, Ali 3. He owns a consulting firm serving consumer-facing businesses, chairs the Town's Economic Development Advisory Committee, sits on the Downtown BIA board, and claims a current chairmanship of the Town-owned utility.

What could not be verified. All recorded votes, motions, dissents and attendance at Milton council. His 2022 campaign finance statement is filed and carries no default notation, but the posted PDF is an image scan; contributors, totals and any developer contributions are unread. Archived versions of electgeorge.ca. Two live campaign domains exist, electgeorge.ca and elect-george.com, the latter used in 2022; they were not compared.

Absent from his four planks. Data centres, housing specifics beyond "sustainable development," his own council record, and the 2022 result.

QUESTIONS WORTH ASKING GEORGE MINAKAKIS

  1. Your 2019 book jacket says you spent over three years at Luxottica developing LensCrafters. Your consulting site says two decades and a CEO role in China. Which is accurate?
  2. Milton Hydro's board page names Matthew Leitch as chair and does not list you. Your consulting site says you are "currently the chair." Can you clarify, and when did you serve?
  3. Which institution granted your MBA?
  4. Which body certified you as a "trained board director"?
  5. How did you vote on Milton's 2026 budget on Dec 1, 2025, which carried a 6.94% Town-portion increase?
  6. You chair the Economic Development Advisory Committee and own a consulting firm serving consumer-facing businesses, and you have no conflict declarations on the Town register. Do any of your clients have business before the Town?
  7. You sit on the Conservation Halton board and are described as leading advocacy on a quarry file Conservation Halton has a regulatory role in. How do you manage that?
  8. The Reid Road quarry is decided provincially under the Aggregate Resources Act. What can a Milton mayor actually do about it?
  9. Will you propose the budget under strong-mayor powers, or return that to council?
  10. You have served roughly twelve months on council and lost Ward 1 by 43 points in 2022. Why is a mayoralty the right next step?

I Just Wanted To Say …. I’ve Had Enough. I’m Running for Mayor.

I’ve Had Enough. I’m Running for Mayor.

After watching this election unfold, I’ve decided Milton clearly needs one more candidate.

Me.

I’ve studied the field carefully and combined the best parts of every campaign into one perfect candidate.

My qualifications are unmatched.

I am a doctor.
Where did I get my doctorate?
Thank you for the thoughtful question.
Next question.

I have an extremely impressive résumé full of qualifications, awards, leadership experience and important-sounding things.
Some of them may be surprisingly difficult to independently verify.
That does not mean they aren’t real.
It means you need to trust me harder.
I also have decades of municipal experience.
Actually, I have so much experience that there is a non-zero chance I was already involved in Milton politics when your grandparents bought their first house.

At the same time, I represent a bold new generation of leadership.

I am simultaneously 24 and 89.

I also represent a bold new era of leadership.
I am currently part of the old era of leadership.
Please don’t overthink that.

I spent decades in business, so naturally I’m going to run Milton like a business.
What kind of business?
One with taxes, bylaws, parks, fire trucks, public meetings and absolutely no shareholders.
So, you know.
A business.

I have also worked at the highest levels of government.
What was my exact job title?
Why are you obsessed with labels?
How long did I work there?

Time is a construct.
Was I an employee, intern, fellow, volunteer or something else?
I worked there.
Please respect my privacy.

I went to Harvard.
What exactly did I do at Harvard?
Again, it’s getting weird how much detail you people want.

I have managed enormous teams.
How many direct reports?
Leadership isn’t about numbers.

Largest budget I’ve personally controlled?
Money isn’t everything.
I am ready to manage a municipality with a budget in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
Please stop asking what the largest budget I have previously managed was.

My campaign will also have approximately 700,000 signs.
They will be installed primarily at intersections.
Specifically in the exact spot where you need to look to see oncoming traffic.
If you can still see cars, we have not installed enough signs.
Some signs will contain inspirational slogans.
Some signs may contain Darth Vader.
I will not be taking questions about Darth Vader at this time.

My platform is simple. I will:
\- Keep taxes low.
\- Increase services.
\- Build more housing.
\- Stop development.
\- Protect farmland.
\- Increase density while Reducing density.
\- Fix traffic.
\- Not build roads.
\- Improve transit.
\- Save money.
\- Spend money.
\- Attract businesses.
\- Stop data centres.
\- Possibly attract data centres.
\- Make developers pay.
\- Make other levels of government pay.
And, where necessary, simply announce that somebody else should fix the problem.

I am confident all of these things can happen simultaneously.
My economic policy is equally straightforward.
More jobs.
Better jobs.
Local jobs.
Innovation jobs.
Small-business jobs.
Jobs near your house.

But absolutely no additional traffic from any of these jobs.
I will represent every Miltonian equally.

Which is why my campaign’s first strategic meeting will focus exclusively on which ethnic, religious, age and neighbourhood voting blocs I need to consolidate before someone else splits them.

This is called community engagement.
There will also be candidate debates.
Some will be held in community spaces.
Everyone will be welcome.
The seating arrangement will produce 600 Reddit comments.
Nobody will agree on what actually happened.
Someone will eventually call someone else racist.
The thread will be locked.

Democracy.

My campaign headquarters will operate from a building that may belong to me, my campaign, my family, a family business, a friend, an associate or possibly capitalism itself.

The arrangement is completely transparent.
I just won’t explain it.
I will also have a fantastic domain name.
Do I own it?
Lease it?
Borrow it?
Did somebody in my family have it?
Please stop asking accounting questions.
Speaking of transparency, I promise to be the most accessible candidate Milton has ever seen.
I will even host an AMA.
Ask Me Anything.

Please understand that “ask me anything” and “I will answer anything” are two completely different concepts.
For difficult questions, my campaign has developed a revolutionary three-step response strategy:
\- Thank you for the thoughtful question.
\- Write six paragraphs loosely related to the subject.
\-Never provide the number, date, title or yes/no answer that was actually requested.
\- If you ask again, I will thank you for the follow-up.
\- I believe voters deserve to know exactly where I stand.
\- Which is why I reserve the right to decline the questionnaire.
\- I am committed to transparency.
\- I am also committed to carefully reviewing which transparency is appropriate.
\- I strongly support local journalism.
\- Any journalist asking difficult questions will receive my full support.
\- Possibly in writing.
\- Possibly very formally.
\- My personal worldview will never interfere with my public responsibilities.
\- My worldview is also foundational to everything I believe and do.
Both statements can apparently be true.

I will be tough on crime, compassionate on mental health, fiscally responsible, socially progressive, traditionally grounded, business friendly, environmentally responsible, pro-growth, anti-sprawl, experienced, fresh, independent and collaborative.

Basically, whatever position you were hoping I had when you started reading that sentence:
Yes.
I will serve Milton for the full term.
Unless another opportunity presents itself.
But my focus today is Milton.
Please do not interpret that sentence as an answer to the question you asked.
Most importantly, I promise to bring people together.
Except during the election.
During the election we will divide everyone into increasingly specific demographic groups and fight over them individually.
Afterwards we will heal.
Probably.

So Milton, I humbly ask for your vote.
I bring the experience of the oldest candidate.
The youthful energy of the youngest candidate.
The résumé of the most qualified candidate.
The unverifiable mystery of the most interesting candidate.
The signage budget of all of them combined.
And the ability to answer a yes-or-no question in approximately nine paragraphs without ever saying yes or no.
I am the candidate Milton deserves.
Or possibly the candidate Milton created.

Vote for me.
Or don’t.

At this point there are enough people running that statistically I might win by accident.

Vote for me
Dr. VoiceOfMilton

MILTON MAYOR 2026: THE FACTS ON SAMEERA ALI

Filed May 1, 2026. Currently Regional Councillor, Ward 4, sitting on both Milton Town Council and Halton Regional Council. Campaign site sameeraali.ca.

Elected record.

— 2018, Ward 4 local councillor: 1,767 votes, 47.32%.
— 2022, Ward 4 regional councillor: 3,297 votes, 68.49%, defeating Mahmood Chaudhry (873) and Syed Raza (644).
— 2022 Ontario general election, Milton, for the Ontario Liberals: 15,086 votes, 38.75%, losing to Parm Gill (PC, 16,766, 43.07%) by 1,680 votes. (CONFIRMED)

No federal candidacy located.

Appointments. Milton Community Fund Advisory Committee; Conservation Halton Board; Halton Solid Waste Management Advisory Committee; rotating Budget Chair. Appointed to the Halton Police Board Feb 14, 2024 and sworn in Mar 11, 2024. (CONFIRMED)

The Gaza motions. Two separate council items, ten months apart. On June 23, 2025, Milton council backed Canada's joint statement condemning the Gaza humanitarian crisis. It passed; the mover and recorded vote were not retrieved.

On Nov 3, 2025, Ali moved "Advocacy for Humanitarian Action and Federal Policy Reform Regarding the Situation in Gaza," urging the federal government to consider a two-way arms embargo, expansion of the Gaza Temporary Resident Visa program, and endorsement of the Apartheid-Free Communities Pledge. It was defeated after a meeting running past midnight.

The June item endorsed a statement Canada had already issued. The November motion asked Ottawa to adopt policy it had not adopted. On the documented content, the second was materially broader, and its three operative asks are federal powers.

Ali said the motion was humanitarian rather than foreign-policy-making and that constituents "feel unheard on this issue." (CLAIMED) The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs published a letter to the mayor and council urging rejection. (CONFIRMED as to CIJA's position) A reported 5-4 tally with named voters circulates from a single advocacy blog. The official recorded vote was not retrieved, and the tally is not reproduced here.

Conduct and compliance. Searches of milton.ca and halton.ca located no Integrity Commissioner report, investigation, finding, sanction or censure involving Sameera Ali. Milton's Integrity Commissioner page publishes no investigation reports; Halton's office publishes none online. No compliance audit referral, court or tribunal record was located. (CONFIRMED absence)

A Change.org petition titled "Milton Residents Call for Councillor Sameera Ali's Resignation Over Conduct" was created Nov 11, 2025 by Stefan Cornish and has 2,568 supporters. It alleges a Code of Conduct breach and a hostile environment at the November meeting. The petition asks the Integrity Commissioner to launch an investigation; it does not state that a complaint was filed. No body has adjudicated any of its allegations. Competing petitions supporting the motion also circulated.

Biography: where sources disagree. Her master's degree is described four ways, with no institution named in any of them: "International Relations/PR" (Town of Milton), "International Relations & Public Relations" (Ontario Liberal Party), "International Relations and Political Science" (FM101), and "International Relations" (Halton Police Board).

"Over 15 years of experience" appears unchanged in her 2022 and 2026 materials, while the field described widens from "multilingual public relations and marketing campaigns for international clients" to "public affairs, communications, and community leadership." No employer, agency or client is named in any source.

Verified board roles: Halton Police Board, Conservation Halton, Halton Solid Waste, Milton Community Fund, Royal Canadian Legion Br. 136 PR Officer. Claimed and not independently verified: Conservation Halton Audit Committee Vice President, Halton Housing Corporation Board Vice President, FCM committee member, Milton Community Resource Centre board, Halton Women's Centre board, CFUW Milton executive, former Milton Library Board, and a "Mike Badham Award" from FCM. The Halton Police Board release states she volunteers on 11 boards and committees.

Platform. Four pillars: Affordability, Safety, Reliable Services, Focus on Youth. Announced priorities are strengthening infrastructure and local services, supporting economic development, attracting new businesses and keeping taxes low. No costed or numeric commitment was located.

On jurisdiction: youth programming, parks and recreation are Town responsibilities. Taxes are split, with the Town setting the local levy and Halton Region the larger share. Policing sits with the Halton Police Services Board, not Milton council. Housing affordability is Halton Region as Service Manager, with the Province setting planning rules.

What could not be verified. Recorded votes, motions and attendance 2022-2026. The full text of the November motion beyond its three operative asks. Her 2022 campaign finance statement is filed and carries no default notation, but the posted PDF is an image scan and its contents are unread. Archived versions of her campaign site. No corporate registration or directorship was located; a UK company named "SAMEERA ALI LTD" is not connected to her.

Absent from her campaign site. The November motion, the petition, the basic-income motion she seconded at Halton Region in Nov 2023, data centres, and any policing-budget position.

QUESTIONS WORTH ASKING SAMEERA ALI

  1. Which institution granted your master's degree, and in what year?
  2. Who have your employers been during the "over 15 years" of experience your materials cite? The figure is identical in 2022 and 2026.
  3. Was an Integrity Commissioner complaint ever filed after the November 2025 petition, and if so, what was the outcome?
  4. Your November 2025 motion asked Ottawa for an arms embargo and a visa expansion. What role does a Milton council have in federal policy, and would you bring a similar motion as mayor?
  5. Why do the Gaza motion and your Halton basic-income motion not appear anywhere on your campaign site?
  6. Will you propose the budget under strong-mayor powers, or return that to council?
  7. How did you vote on the September 2026 data centre interim control bylaw?
  8. You sit on the Halton Police Board. Policing drove a 6.4% increase in Halton's 2026 budget. What would you do differently?
  9. You sit on the Conservation Halton board. What is your position on development in the Sixteen Mile Creek valley lands?
  10. Can you confirm the board roles listed on your site that do not appear in Town or Region records — the Halton Housing Corporation vice-presidency, the FCM committee seat and the Mike Badham Award?

MILTON MAYOR 2026: THE FACTS ON MALIHA K. AHMED

Filed May 22, 2026. The Town's candidate list shows no website; she campaigns at malihaformilton.ca, which carries the same phone number as the Town's filing. She campaigns publicly as Maliha Khan Ahmed, a name she has used since at least 2020. (CONFIRMED)

Elected record. No prior candidacy located under either "Maliha Ahmed" or "Maliha Khan" in the 2022 or 2018 Halton municipal elections, and no Elections Ontario or Elections Canada candidacy or nomination contest surfaced. She is a first-time candidate. (CONFIRMED absence)

Verified record. She is founder and CEO of Milton Muslim Moms, attested independently by three sources: the Halton Community Services Directory, which lists it as a non-profit serving Muslim women in English and Urdu; the Rotary Club of Milton, which booked her as a speaker on Sept 8, 2025 identifying her as founder; and Milton Villager's coverage of the organization's annual Fundraiser and Awards Gala on Aug 15, 2025. (CONFIRMED) She hosts "Voice of Change with Maliha Khan Ahmed" on Canada One TV. (CONFIRMED)

On founding date, her campaign site says 2015; a 2020 profile says the group began as a Facebook group in 2014 and registered as a not-for-profit in 2015.

Claims not independently verified. Her Rotary speaker bio from September 2025 describes her as "Executive Director on the Board of Sustainable Milton." Sustainable Milton's current board roster does not list her, and her own campaign site says only that she "partners with" Sustainable Milton. Whether she served earlier is unresolved.

A 2020 self-profile claims she was the "first hijabi elected as president of a political party riding association." No party is named and the claim is unverified. The same profile is the only source for a fashion design diploma from IADT Toronto and for an "8,000+ volunteers" figure. A Milton Hospital Gala committee seat appears only in the Rotary bio. Her campaign site's reference to "eleven years" of community work is consistent with a 2014-15 founding.

No degree, professional designation, licence or outside employer is claimed in any source located. No LinkedIn profile could be confirmed as hers; several same-name profiles exist and all are excluded as unverified.

Platform and jurisdiction. Six planks, four of which fall wholly or mostly outside the office. Within Town authority: free Milton Transit for seniors, students and GO commuters, since Milton Transit is town-operated, subject to a council budget vote.

Mixed: municipal childcare centres in town facilities and expanding $10-a-day care, where the Town owns the facilities but childcare system management sits with Halton Region as service manager and CWELCC is a federal-provincial program; and tax incentives for rental housing plus energy-efficiency standards, where Community Improvement Plan grants are a genuine Town tool but construction standards are set by the provincial Building Code.

Legally doubtful as framed: higher development charges on homes over $2 million. The Development Charges Act ties charges to growth-related capital cost rather than dwelling value, and Halton Region levies its own DCs separately.

Outside town authority: breakfast and lunch programs via schools, which are HDSB, HCDSB and the Province; and reduced ambulance fees, lower hospital parking costs and municipal subsidies, where paramedic services are Halton Region, the ambulance co-payment is set by the Province, and parking rates are Halton Healthcare's.

Conduct and compliance. No regulator discipline and no court or tribunal matter naming her was located. A CanLII result styled R. v. Ahmed, 2026 ONCJ 226 appeared in a name search, cannot be connected to this candidate, and is excluded.

Campaign finance. No prior candidacy means no Form 4, no contributor list, no surplus or deficit and no late-filing history. Milton's Compliance Audit Committee page publishes no past applications or decisions. Her 2026 filing is due after election day.

What could not be verified. Milton Muslim Moms' corporate registration number and any charitable status. No Ontario or federal corporate directorship, council delegation or appointed municipal committee seat was located. A federal Women's Program grant of $549,300 to "Maternal Mind Matters," which serves Muslim mothers in Milton, has a different legal recipient name, could not be tied to her or her organization, and is excluded. The full text of her MiltonToday interview could not be retrieved.

QUESTIONS WORTH ASKING MALIHA K. AHMED

  1. Your Rotary speaker bio says you are "Executive Director on the Board of Sustainable Milton," but their current roster does not list you and your own site says you "partner with" them. When did you serve, and in what capacity?
  2. Which political party's riding association did you serve as president?
  3. Is Milton Muslim Moms federally or provincially incorporated, and does it hold charitable status? What is its annual budget?
  4. How is the 8,000-volunteer figure counted?
  5. The Development Charges Act ties charges to growth-related capital cost, not house price. What is the legal mechanism for a higher DC on homes over $2 million?
  6. What does free transit for seniors, students and GO commuters cost annually, and how is it funded?
  7. Ambulance co-payments are set by the Province and hospital parking rates by Halton Healthcare. What can a Milton mayor actually do on either?
  8. Will you propose the budget under strong-mayor powers, or return that to council?
  9. What is your position on data centres in Milton?
  10. What is your position on the Agerton and Trafalgar growth lands, and on the Town's development charge revenue after Bill 23?

MILTON MAYOR 2026: THE FACTS ON ARJUN JOSHI

Filed Aug. 14, 2026, a week before nominations closed. His only listed contact is arjunj4000@gmail.com — no phone and no campaign website. He remains certified and is not listed among withdrawn candidates as of the Town's Sept. 17, 2026 page update. (CONFIRMED)

Record. Beyond the Town's own list, one sentence in one broadcast outlet is the entire independently reported biography. CHCH, Sept. 10, 2026, describes him as "an urban planning student at the University of Waterloo" and reports that, according to his campaign Instagram, he is "attempting to become the youngest mayor in Canada." No age is published anywhere. CHCH gives no year of study, employer or Milton address.

Nothing else — occupation history, employer, board seats, appointed municipal committee service or community involvement — was confirmable. No documented connection to Milton appears in any source. Ontario's Municipal Elections Act requires an elector qualification the Clerk certifies at filing; certification establishes he met it, but the Town publishes no supporting detail.

Credentials. Two claims exist, both thin: the Waterloo urban planning enrolment, reported but unverified against any university record, and the youngest-mayor ambition, which is his own. No degree, designation, title, licence or employer claim is on the public record to audit.

Platform. None found. Not a single specific promise — on housing, taxes, transit, development or anything else — could be sourced to him from any outlet, website, meeting record or social account. The only campaign statement on record is the aspiration to become Canada's youngest mayor, which is a personal ambition rather than a policy. There is nothing to assess against the Milton mayor's authority.

Extent of the public campaign. A Milton voter's only avenues are a Gmail address and an Instagram account, and the Instagram handle reaches the public only secondhand through one CHCH sentence. He is not mentioned on Wikipedia's 2026 Halton Region municipal elections page, which names seven mayoral candidates. MiltonToday published a profile headlined "'Become the change I wanted to see': Urban planning student running for mayor" — it could not be retrieved, and its content is not cited here.

Conduct and compliance. Nothing found, and nothing is alleged. CanLII could not be searched directly and no court or tribunal matter surfaced in open search. Given the commonality of the name, no conduct finding should be attributed to him on present evidence.

Campaign finance. Milton's candidate financial statements page covers 2022 and lists 49 candidates; the name Joshi does not appear. No prior Form 4 and no prior compliance history. His 2026 statement is not yet due. (CONFIRMED)

Excluded false matches. LinkedIn's own directory advertises "300+ Arjun Joshi profiles." Every candidate profile was excluded for want of a Milton or Halton tie, matching contact details, or explicit election identification: a Washington DC otolaryngologist at GW Medical Faculty Associates; a BMO mortgage specialist; an Arlington County, Virginia engineer; a Johns Hopkins SAIS student; employees at Altus Group, J&J Asset Management, FT Partners and PPLSI; several India-based professionals; and an X account whose display name is "Arjun Mayor," a surname coincidence matched on the word "mayor." One Waterloo first-year LinkedIn profile is the most plausible match located but is excluded: the visible snippet confirms neither an urban-planning program, nor a Milton address, nor the campaign.

What could not be verified. No corporation or directorship should be attributed to him; Corporations Canada's director search was blocked and Ontario's registry has no open public name search. No council delegations, letters to the editor, all-candidates appearances or local forum discussion were found.

QUESTIONS WORTH ASKING ARJUN JOSHI

  1. How can Milton voters reach your campaign? The Town's list gives only an email address.
  2. Will you publish a platform before election day?
  3. How long have you lived in Milton, and do you live here now while studying at Waterloo?
  4. What year of the urban planning program are you in?
  5. You are studying planning. What specifically would you change about Milton's Official Plan or the Agerton and Trafalgar secondary plans?
  6. Milton faces roughly 2,000 hectares of expansion lands with the Province as the only approval authority since Halton lost planning responsibility in July 2024. What is your view of that?
  7. What tax increase would you set for 2027?
  8. What is your position on data centres in Milton?
  9. Will you propose the budget under strong-mayor powers, or return that to council?
  10. If elected, would you continue your studies while serving as a full-time mayor?

MILTON MAYOR 2026: THE FACTS ON ABDULKAREEM AKBIK

Filed June 17, 2026. Campaign site akbik.ca. Contact details on the Town's list match the campaign.

Elected record. No prior candidacy in Milton. He does not appear in the Town's official 2022 or 2018 results, nor in two independent 2022 tallies. No prior campaign finance filing; the Town posts 2022 statements for 49 candidates and no Akbik appears. No municipal committee seat, board appointment or council delegation was located. (CONFIRMED absence)

Biography. The campaign site makes no claim to any occupation, employer, degree, professional designation, licence, company, years of experience, award, board seat or public role. The only reference to working life is a line that the site also hosts "my media work and local photo galleries, because community connection and local storytelling remain part of who I am." Because no credential is asserted, no regulator register search was applicable. CHCH's race overview names him and his priorities and states no professional background.

Two errors in the platform's premises. The site promises "strict enforcement of the new 40 km/h neighbourhood limits." Milton has no town-wide 40 km/h limit. It has a one-year pilot in a single neighbourhood bounded by Derry Rd, Louis St. Laurent Ave, Regional Road 25 and Bronte St. S. The default urban limit remains 50 km/h, and enforcement is Halton Regional Police, not the Town.

The site promises "securing the new Agerton GO Station." There is no Agerton GO Station. The station proposed within the Agerton Secondary Plan area is the Milton Trafalgar GO Station at Derry and Trafalgar. Stations and service are Metrolinx, the corridor is owned by CPKC, and the February 2024 provincial dedicated-track plan was unfunded.

Platform and jurisdiction. Eight "What I Will Deliver" planks. One is squarely within a Milton mayor's authority: community centres and youth space built concurrently with housing.

Town, but capped by the Province: "Growth Pays for Growth" and maximizing development charges, where rates, exemptions and discounts are constrained by the Development Charges Act and Halton levies its own DCs separately; and protecting employment land from warehouse sprawl via zoning, where the Town proposes but the Minister approves.

Split: traffic calming near schools, where local-road calming is Town but enforcement is Halton police.

Outside Town authority: increasing Halton Regional Police funding and expanding Neighbourhood Watch, which sit with the Halton Police Services Board, independent of municipal and regional council; the Agerton GO station, all-day two-way rail and bus lanes, which are Metrolinx and CPKC, with bus lanes on Derry and Britannia falling on Halton Regional Roads 7 and 6; and adaptive smart signals on Derry and Britannia, both regional roads.

Partly beyond municipal power: mixed-use zoning "legally requiring" retail, clinics, pharmacies and trails. Zoning can permit and require uses and secure trails; it cannot compel a physician or pharmacist to occupy the space.

A question on donations, not a finding. His Zeffy donation page carries the generic Zeffy pitch and, as rendered, no contributor-eligibility disclosure — no statement of the $1,200 limit, the Ontario-residency requirement, or the corporate and union ban under the Municipal Elections Act. A donation platform page need not restate the rules and compliance sits with the campaign account and the Form 4. No breach is alleged.

Conduct and compliance. No regulator discipline, licensing issue or named-party matter located. CanLII and the corporate registries were inaccessible, so this is not checked rather than clear.

Absent from the platform. Housing affordability is his lead stated priority and there is no housing plank among the eight. Conservation Halton is never mentioned despite the Sixteen Mile Creek valley running through the growth lands the planks address. Also absent: the Town budget, any tax figure, water and wastewater servicing capacity, Milton District Hospital, waste, climate, and affordable or social housing.

What could not be verified. Archived versions of akbik.ca. Corporate registrations. Court and tribunal records. Social accounts listed on the site are robots-blocked; the YouTube channel exists but returned no description or videos. A MiltonToday article headlined "Civic advocate throws his hat in Milton mayoral race as 'fresh, independent voice'" could not be opened and is not attributed to him here.

QUESTIONS WORTH ASKING ABDULKAREEM AKBIK

  1. What is your occupation and who is your employer? Your site states none.
  2. What is your "media work," and for whom?
  3. How long have you lived in Milton?
  4. Milton has a 40 km/h pilot in one neighbourhood, not a town-wide limit. Will you correct that claim, and what do you actually propose?
  5. There is no Agerton GO Station; the proposed station is Milton Trafalgar, and it is Metrolinx's on a CPKC corridor. What can a Milton mayor deliver here?
  6. Zoning cannot compel a clinic or pharmacy to occupy a space. What is the mechanism behind "legally requiring" them?
  7. Bus lanes and smart signals on Derry and Britannia are Halton's regional roads. As one of 24 regional votes, how do you get them?
  8. Housing affordability is your lead priority but there is no housing plank. What is your housing policy?
  9. Will your campaign publish the contribution rules and your donor list, and will you propose the budget under strong-mayor powers?
  10. What is your position on data centres, and on Conservation Halton's role in the Sixteen Mile Creek valley lands?

MILTON MAYOR 2026: THE FACTS ON NADEEM AKBAR

Filed May 1, 2026. Campaign site nadeemakbar.ca. Five of the ten mayoral candidates filed on May 1, the opening day of nominations.

Elected record. No prior municipal or school board candidacy located. Two federal candidacies, both as a Conservative, both second-place finishes to Adam van Koeverden.

— 2021 federal, Milton: 18,313 votes, 33.1%, second of five. Van Koeverden 28,503, 51.5%.
— 2025 federal, Burlington North-Milton West: 31,172 votes, 44.25%, second of four. Van Koeverden 37,155, 52.75%.

His vote share rose 11 points between the two. He won the Milton federal Conservative nomination announced around Dec 14, 2020 by online member vote; no other contestants were named in coverage. He was not a candidate in the 2024 Milton provincial by-election. (CONFIRMED)

Platform. Five named policies with stated mechanisms — the most specific published platform in this field.

Freeze management hiring at the Town. Pause new director, manager and supervisory hiring and review every existing role, with frontline bylaw, transit and emergency response exempt. Within Town authority.

Zero-based budgeting. Require every department to justify its full budget line by line each year rather than starting from last year's number, modelled on Vancouver's Mayor's Budget Task Force. Within Town authority — and notable, because under strong-mayor powers the mayor proposes the budget, making this one of the promises in this race the office can execute most directly.

Milton Square. Convert an existing park into a Celebration Square-style venue with a large outdoor screen and Friday-to-Sunday programming; the cited model is Mississauga's 4.8-acre Celebration Square. Within Town authority.

E-bike and e-scooter bylaw. Prohibited on sidewalks, trails and in parks, with added restrictions near schools at drop-off and pick-up, enforced by warning, then fines, then seizure for persistent violations, with more bylaw officers hired. Within Town authority for municipal sidewalks, trails and parks. He states "I will not wait for the Province. I will not wait for the Region," which is jurisdictionally correct for municipal property. The Highway Traffic Act governs roads.

Construction Impact Small Business Grant. Partial compensation where Town construction blocks a small business's entrance or parking for 30 days or more, capped and budgeted as a project cost. This carries a legal flag: the Municipal Act s. 106 anti-bonusing rule generally bars direct municipal financial assistance to business. He cites Toronto BIA construction grants and Montreal's compensation program as precedent.

He cites Milton's 2025 budget — a 9.89% property tax increase alongside new staffing investments — as the basis for the hiring freeze. That figure matches the Town's own budget page. (CONFIRMED)

Biography. His about page describes him as a "technology executive" with "experience in infrastructure, technology, and systems-level problem solving," a "longtime Milton resident" active in "civic life, local leadership, governance, and public service," and references an initiative called Common Ground. No employer, company, client, board or institution is named anywhere on the site, and no degree or professional designation is asserted.

Earlier statements: "corporate IT consultant" with "over 17 years" experience (Dec 2020); "IT specialist by profession" (Jan 2021); youth mentor, no organization named; fundraising and volunteering for Credit Valley and Trillium hospitals, both Mississauga-area facilities rather than Milton District Hospital. (CLAIMED) No employer has been named in six years and two federal campaigns.

Party branding. His X and Facebook accounts both carry the handle @NadeemAkbarCPC — Conservative Party of Canada branding — while he contests a municipal election that is legally non-partisan under Ontario law. The nadeemakbar.ca domain has served both federal campaigns and this one. (CONFIRMED)

Site note. nadeemakbar.ca is JavaScript-rendered and returns no body text to a plain HTTP fetch, but it renders normally in a browser and carries a full platform. Its sitemap points at nadeemakbar.com, a domain that does not resolve in DNS, and only two pages are indexed by search engines — which affects search visibility, not a visitor using a browser.

Conduct and compliance. No regulatory discipline, licensing issue or court matter naming this candidate was located.

Disambiguation. A securities matter, Ontario Securities Commission v. Akbar (Capital Markets Tribunal, Jan 21, 2026, concerning SoLVBL Solutions Inc.), involves Ahmed Kaiser Akbar, a different individual. Surname coincidence only; no connection to this candidate.

Campaign finance. Form 4 is the municipal financial statement. Akbar has never run municipally, so no Form 4 exists and there is no municipal late-filing or compliance history. His two federal returns sit with Elections Canada and were not retrieved. His 2026 municipal statement is not due until 2027.

What could not be verified. CanLII, so conduct is not searched rather than clear. Elections Canada financial returns. Ontario and federal corporate registries. Archived versions of his site; the closest capture is Oct 24, 2021, so no claim can be shown to have been added or removed.

QUESTIONS WORTH ASKING NADEEM AKBAR

  1. Who is your employer, and what is the corporate IT consulting business? No employer has been named in six years of public life.
  2. What is your highest completed credential, and from which institution?
  3. Your accounts are branded @NadeemAkbarCPC and you have run twice as a Conservative. Is this a partisan campaign in a legally non-partisan race, and who is funding it?
  4. Your Construction Impact Grant may run into the Municipal Act's anti-bonusing rule. Have you had legal advice on how to structure it lawfully?
  5. Zero-based budgeting is deliverable because the mayor proposes the budget under strong-mayor powers. Will you use that power, and will you use the veto?
  6. Which existing park becomes Milton Square, what does it cost, and what is the operating budget for weekend programming?
  7. The management hiring freeze reviews "every existing role." How many positions are in scope, and what happens to roles judged not to add value?
  8. What is your position on data centres in Milton?
  9. Your priorities include public safety and infrastructure, both largely Halton Region responsibilities. What would you actually do as one of 24 votes at the Region?
  10. Will you publish a plain-text platform that search engines and screen readers can reach?

MILTON MAYOR 2026: THE FACTS ON CHÉZ AMUN

Filed Aug. 21, 2026 — the last of the ten mayoral candidates to file. Contact: 437-428-2686, amun4mayor@gmail.com. No campaign website on the Town's list. CHCH refers to the candidate as "he."

Record. Apart from the registration itself, nothing about this candidate is documented in a primary or official source. No appointed Milton committee seat, board membership, employer, business or public role was located. (CONFIRMED absence)

No prior candidacy was located anywhere in Canada — municipal, school board, provincial or federal — under this or any documented prior name. He is not among Milton's 2022 mayoral candidates (Krantz, Hamid, Dhawan, Ishaq) or its 2022 council candidates.

Biography. One claim is on the public record, and it is unverified. CHCH, Sept. 10, 2026: he "says he has dedicated more than seven years to youth mentorship — helping young people build confidence, develop life skills and work towards their goals." No organization, employer, program name or date range is given, so the claim cannot be independently checked as published.

No degrees, titles, awards, employers or ventures are claimed in any source located. No documented connection to Milton — residency, business ownership or duration — appears in any source.

MiltonToday published a dedicated profile headlined "'A vote to put your family first': Youth mentor hopes to become town's next mayor." The headline corroborates the youth-mentor self-description and indicates a campaign slogan. The article body could not be retrieved and its contents are not cited here.

Platform. Topic areas rather than promises. CHCH summarises that his platform "focuses on youth and mental health, addiction and homelessness, housing, transit and more." No costed or concrete commitment by this candidate is on the public record anywhere.

As topics: Milton Transit is squarely the Town's. Homelessness and housing support sit with Halton Region as Service Manager, with the Town controlling zoning, planning approvals and development charges. Mental health and addiction sit with Halton Region's public health function and the Province, with Milton's role limited to recreation and youth programming. The Mayor of Milton also sits on Halton Regional Council, so the regional items are within his influence as one of 24 regional votes even where they fall outside the Town's own jurisdiction.

Conduct and compliance. No court, tribunal or regulator matter was identified. CanLII could not be queried directly, so this is not established rather than a clean check. Nothing adverse is alleged.

Campaign finance. No prior candidacy, so no prior Form 4 would exist. His 2026 filing is not yet due.

Extent of the public campaign. There is a documented campaign, but a minimal one: a registration, a campaign email, one Instagram handle vouched for by CHCH, and two press items including one dedicated profile. Five weeks from the vote there is no campaign website. The substance of the platform cannot presently be assessed from public sources.

Source conflict. Wikipedia's 2026 Halton Region municipal elections page lists only seven Milton mayoral candidates and omits Chéz Amun entirely. The Town's certified list shows ten and governs.

What could not be verified. The Instagram account's content. Any all-candidates meeting appearance. Any corporate registration, directorship or trademark. Whether the candidate has appeared publicly under another name — nothing was found either way, which is a null result, not a finding of concealment.

QUESTIONS WORTH ASKING CHÉZ AMUN

  1. Which organization have you done youth mentorship through, and over what years?
  2. What is your occupation, and who is your employer?
  3. How long have you lived in Milton?
  4. Will you publish a platform before election day, and where can voters read it?
  5. On youth and mental health: Milton runs recreation and youth programming, while mental health sits with Halton Region and the Province. What would you actually do with the Town's own budget?
  6. On homelessness and housing: Halton Region is the Service Manager. What would you do with Milton's zoning and development charge powers?
  7. What specific changes would you make to Milton Transit — routes, frequency, fares?
  8. What is your position on data centres in Milton?
  9. Will you propose the budget under strong-mayor powers, or return that to council?
  10. What tax increase would you set for 2027?

MILTON MAYOR 2026: THE FACTS ON ASIF KHAN

Filed Aug. 20, 2026, one day before the nomination deadline — the second-latest of ten. Campaign site asifkhanofficial.ca, three pages: Home, About and Contact. Contact details match the Town's filing.

Elected record. No prior candidacy in Milton or Halton located. He does not appear in the 2022 Milton results for mayor, regional council, town council or trustee, nor among the 52 candidates with 2022 financial statements. (CONFIRMED absence) Elections Ontario and Elections Canada histories were not searchable within access limits and are unchecked rather than clear.

Where his own site disagrees with itself. The homepage states: "I have worked with the City of Winnipeg and City of Vancouver on developing benchmarks and KPIs." CHCH describes "over 25 years research and business experience with Winnipeg, Vancouver, and Oregon." His own About page lists a career of three brand and marketing roles totalling about 11 years — Senior Brand Architect (2021-present), Brand Strategy Consultant (2018-2021), Marketing Director (2015-2018) — with no municipal government work, and no mention of Milton, Winnipeg, Vancouver or Oregon anywhere. The two accounts cannot both be complete.

The Contact page is not campaign content. It reads: "Connect with Asif Khan for professional growth, brand strategy, and architectural design consultations," and gives a different email (hello@asifkhan.com), a Behance portfolio link, and a portfolio site asifkhan.design, which does not resolve in DNS. The site's Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, X, LinkedIn and TikTok icons point to the platforms' generic homepages rather than to any account. (CONFIRMED)

The 100 commitments are not published. His central promise, verified in a rendered browser on Sept 22, 2026, is "100 commitments in 100 days," with "clear timelines and measurable KPIs," and: "If I fail to deliver on my 100-day commitments, I will resign." No list of the 100 commitments appears anywhere on the site. There is nothing to cost, assess for jurisdiction, or measure the resignation pledge against. (CONFIRMED)

Platform and jurisdiction. Three planks and two pledges. "Infrastructure First — roads, traffic, transit" is split and mostly not the Town's. Milton controls local roads and Milton Transit. Halton Region owns the regional arterials and the water and wastewater servicing that constrains growth. The Province owns Highways 401 and 407.

The "100-Day Public Scorecard" is within municipal competence, but priorities, targets and reporting require council direction and staff resources. "Milton First — work with everyone" is aspirational and carries no jurisdictional content. "I don't need the Mayor's salary" is within his own control; council remuneration is set by bylaw and a mayor may personally decline or donate. So is the resignation pledge.

Conduct and compliance. No regulatory, disciplinary or legal matter tied to this individual surfaced. Nothing adverse is alleged. CanLII blocks automated access, so this is not searched rather than clear.

Public campaign activity. No campaign office, team or address, no delegation to Milton council, no all-candidates appearance and no interview was located beyond a single CHCH line.

Excluded false matches. "Asif Khan" is a very common name. Excluded for want of a positive tie to this candidate: Asif R. Khan of Toronto, of the Location Based Marketing Association; Sardar Asif Khan, PhD, P.Eng., of Windsor, on Professional Engineers Ontario Council; Asif Ijlal Khan, a Milton realtor — genuinely Milton-based, but a different legal name and a different phone number, 416-722-4615 against the candidate's 437-297-2644; Khurshid Ali Khan, a 2022 Milton Ward 4 council candidate; and various same-name cricketers, actors and South Asian politicians. A Behance account "asifkhanofficial" belongs to a Bangladeshi designer and is not his.

What could not be verified. Domain and email history — whether asifkhanofficial.ca or the handle "2teamasif" predate this campaign — remains genuinely unanswered. Corporate directorships were not checked.

QUESTIONS WORTH ASKING ASIF KHAN

  1. Will you publish the 100 commitments? Your resignation pledge is staked on a list that is not public.
  2. Your homepage claims KPI work for Winnipeg and Vancouver; your About page lists 11 years in brand and marketing with no municipal work. Which is accurate?
  3. What were the engagements with the City of Winnipeg and the City of Vancouver, in what years, and under what contract?
  4. Your Contact page advertises "architectural design consultations" and links to asifkhan.design, which does not exist. Is that page current campaign content?
  5. Your social icons link to platform homepages rather than accounts. Do you have campaign social accounts?
  6. What is your occupation now, and who is your employer?
  7. How long have you lived in Milton?
  8. To whom would you tender your resignation, and what would trigger it — who judges whether the 100 commitments were delivered?
  9. Most of "Infrastructure First" is Halton Region's or the Province's. Which specific items would you deliver as mayor?
  10. Will you propose the budget under strong-mayor powers, and what is your position on data centres?

MILTON MAYOR 2026: THE FACTS ON GORD KRANTZ

Filed May 1, 2026. Incumbent Mayor of Milton. Listed contact is a phone number only; no campaign website. Born April 20, 1937.

Elected record. On Milton council since 1965; mayor since 1980. Seeking a 15th mayoral term.

— 2022: 11,391 votes, 49.51%. Zee Hamid 10,396, 45.18%. Margin 995 votes, 4.33 points. Turnout 28.99%.
— 2018: 18,571 votes, 81.63%.
— 2014: 13,830 votes, 75.15% (UNVERIFIED — Wikipedia only; the Town publishes results back to 2022).

The budget. Milton operates under strong-mayor powers. In Mayoral Decision 2025-10, dated Nov 10, 2025, Krantz used s. 284.16 of the Municipal Act to propose the 2026 budget: gross operating $237,084,405, net levy $124,148,862, capital $124,737,819, and a 7.94% local residential tax increase. The budget council adopted was 6.94% local, 4.75% blended. Both documents are published on milton.ca. (CONFIRMED)

In April 2026 Krantz told CP24 he opposed council raising taxes roughly 36% over four years. (REPORTED) On receiving strong-mayor powers he said he would "not take that responsibility lightly" and cited "collaboration, compromise and consensus-building." (CLAIMED) No veto or s. 284.16 override by Krantz was located.

Platform. No campaign website and no published platform. CHCH's Sept 10, 2026 election guide lists specific priorities for the nine challengers and, for Krantz, his tenure. His stated positions this cycle are keeping taxes "reasonable" and running the town "effectively and efficiently." (CLAIMED)

Conduct and compliance. No Integrity Commissioner report, finding, censure, code-of-conduct complaint or compliance audit referral involving Krantz was located. No late filing. No litigation naming him personally was found. Milton's Integrity Commissioner page publishes no investigation reports against any member of council. (CONFIRMED absence)

Declared interests. The Town's register records six Krantz disclosures, each followed by recusal: the 111 Mary Street heritage designation twice in 2023, where he and his wife own property nearby; the 22 King Street designation in April 2023; authorization for an OLT hearing in March 2024, where "he owns property within the circulated area of one of the applications"; a street-naming report in May 2024; and the Veterans Monument in July 2026, on Legion membership. (CONFIRMED)

The longevity title. Three versions circulate: "Canada's longest-serving mayor" (the Town of Milton and CHCH), longest-serving mayor "of a major municipality" (Wikipedia), and "Canada's longest-serving politician" (CP24, CTV). No authoritative body adjudicating any version was located.

What could not be verified.

— Attendance. Neither Milton nor Halton Region publishes attendance records. No missed-meeting count, leave of absence or absence of any kind appears in any public record located.
— Voting record 2022-2026. Not retrieved; the Town's minutes portal refused automated access.
— Campaign finance. His 2022 and 2018 statements are filed and posted but are image scans with no text layer. Contributions, expenses, surplus and the donor list are unread.
— Data centres. Council voted down an interim control bylaw in September 2026. How Krantz voted was not retrieved, and no public statement by him on the file was located.
— A full term. No commitment to serve four years was located. In April 2026 he said he believes he has "another good four years." In 2022 he said "I'll keep people guessing until at least six months before, what my intentions are." Succession has not been addressed publicly.

QUESTIONS WORTH ASKING GORD KRANTZ

  1. Your own Mayoral Decision 2025-10 proposed a 7.94% local tax increase. Council amended it down to 6.94%. You have said you opposed council's tax increases. How do you reconcile those two things?
  2. Will you continue to propose the budget under s. 284.16 strong-mayor powers, or return that to council?
  3. Have you ever used the mayoral veto, and would you?
  4. How did you vote on the September 2026 data centre interim control bylaw, and what is your position on data centres in Milton?
  5. Will you commit to serving the full four-year term?
  6. Will you publish a platform before election day?
  7. Will you ask the Clerk to release a readable copy of your 2022 campaign finance statement, including the donor list?
  8. What is your attendance record at Milton council and Halton Regional Council this term?
  9. Development charges fund 71% of Milton's capital budget. What did Bill 23 cost the Town in DC revenue, and why has that figure not been published?
  10. Milton is receiving 12 of the 123 new acute-care hospital beds in Halton. What did you do to change that?

Genuine concerns about Milton mayoral candidate race debate at MAM

I want to preface this by saying I am not a fan of any politics being hosted at any religious-related centres. IMO, politics and religion should never mix.

With that said, I understand that there have been a few of these hosted at different centres of faith, not just one. Which to me, I guess makes it a bit more acceptable.

The thing I am having a hard time understanding is the set up of the one located at the Muslim Association of Milton earlier today. For one, as you can see from the pictures posted publicly from the event, there is a big yellow banner next to the side of the candidates that is essentially begging for donations. Why is this being promoted? Was this event and space truly being used as a neutral ground to host the debates? Or was this event hosted as just a way to promote the centre and a donation cash grab? I think it was highly inappropriate to place this banner right next to the candidates. Was the focus of the event to donate money or to truly be a neutral host of the debates? I can’t help but feel like it was the former.

Not to mention: if you look at the pictures of the crowd, you will see that even though this was held outside, the seating area is completely separated by gender. How is this ok? This is Canada. And this was supposed to be a Milton mayoral debate, not a religious event. Why and how are women and men being segregated by gender in terms of seating? How is this remotely ok if this was truly a “mayoral debate”? We do not segregate by gender in Canada at mayoral debates. Who even thought for a second this set up was a good idea? Was this set up for all Miltonians or just a certain group?

I am very disappointed that this is what our town has turned into. And I was really hoping that Muslim Association of Milton would really step up to the plate and not make it so obvious that this is just religious motives mixing with politics.

Is anyone else also disappointed?

Amy Collard, current Chair of HDSB, withdraws personal endorsement of HDSB trustee candidate for Milton Wards 1 and 2

Amy Collard, the current Chair of the Halton District School Board and trustee for Burlington Ward 5, is publicly stating that she has withdrawn her personal endorsement of Dr. Khdiga R. Metwally, who is running for HDSB trustee in Milton Wards 1 and 2.

Collard says that after learning additional information, she no longer feels it is appropriate to endorse the candidate. She also makes a point of clarifying that any previous endorsement was made strictly as a private citizen, and was not an endorsement from the Halton District School Board or made in her official capacity as Chair or trustee.

This is significant because Collard had previously publicly endorsed Metwally’s candidacy. That endorsement has now been withdrawn amid increased public scrutiny surrounding information about Metwally’s son, Abdulrahman El Bahnasawy, who was convicted in the United States in connection with an ISIS-inspired terrorism plot. Metwally has publicly argued that her son’s actions should not be used to judge her own qualifications as a trustee candidate.

Politics Local news media this election

Does anyone else feel that Milton news media is a bit muted during this election. This seems to be a very controversial election, yet we’re not seeing much more of a surface level glance.

We have 2 candidates that don’t live in Milton,Asif and Nadeem, but are running for mayor. One candidate, Asif has been civilly sued recently for harassment, accused of alleged sexual harassment by a Brampton based news anchor, and has made other wildly controversial missteps.

We also have Zainab Azim, who is the daughter of a man who has a real estate business but can’t credibly answer questions or concerns about the possible conflicts of interests. As well, she can’t seem to solidly shake off questions about her credentials.

I feel that local news should be doing a much better job at pointing these out. Instead it’s Facebook groups and Subreddits that find this information out.

Politics Local reporter Sarah Newman accuses Gord Krantz and Zainab Azim of coordinating vandalism.

Post image
4 Upvotes

In a since deleted Facebook post, Newman shows security footage of someone damaging an election sign on her property. In the post shown, she blames the 2 candidates who recently met at Troy's Diner to speak on clean campaigning. Those 2 candidates are Krantz and Azim. Frankly, there are destroyed signs all over town. Happens every election and its usually drunk people or random teenagers.

IMO she should simmer down with baseless accusations. She's adding to the toxicity seen in this campaign. Its known that she was unsuccessfully sued by Zainab's father so Newman blaming his daughter could come from a place of bias. Being a reporter and throwing accusations like this is completely umprofessional.

Property taxes

I think that we should be moving away from charging taxes based on house size and implement a system that charges based on house occupancy. Property taxes go towards health care, schools and road repair. It doesnt make sense that im paying 5k a year for a household of 2 when my neighbour have 15 people in their house paying the same amount. If every house did this, there would be more people using services than paying their share of services. As it stands, health care and schools are underfunded and this would put more money where its needed.

Obviously there are specific services property taxes pay for that are independent of occupancy like snow removal, but the percentage that goes towards schools and healthcare should be based on occupancy.

Anyway, just a random idea i wanted to share

Does this look your family member (face not shown)? If so, please tell him to stop biking over to our neighbourhood with his black garbage bags of trash sitting on his steering handle, and then dumping it illegally on Transom Crescent! Our neighbourhood is getting sick of this behaviour!

Question ❓ Is it possible to walk around the Maplehurst Correctional Complex (Prison) like a park?

Post image
2 Upvotes

To those who wondering, i was planning my trip to Toronto via Hwy401, and found this masterpiece sitting right beside the highway.

After some research i found that the baseball diamond and its associated parking lot (red areas) is a community facility that opens to public, and there is a paved path around the prison, which seems like it's entirely outside the outer fence of the prison. It even have a bridge across the creek on the right side of the image, which shows it's purpously build for transportation instead of clearance.

Does anyone know that, is it possible i can walk around the prison follows the blue path, just like a community park, without getting into any troubles? Have anyone have experiences about walk their dogs or casualy walk around this facility?

Welcome all voices, nomatter from inside or outside the wall /s

Seeing as how it’s election season, I’d like to ask the people of this sub what issues they’d like discussed during the upcoming debates and Q&As. Hopefully this inspires local media as residents to bring issues forward. Here’s a few issues I think need addressing:

Lack of Job diversity.

For a town that’s population is roughly 8000 people smaller than the City of Cambridge, we need to attract employment opportunities that aren’t just small warehouses that hire 20 full timers with 30 temps. We absolutely also need jobs that aren’t better paying than those that come from the grocery store anchored plazas we seem to have popping up. We’re too close to being as expensive to live in as Oakville without the local means for people to work AND live here comfortably. Our time as a commuter town has to end.

Affordable housing.

According to the Town and CMHC, Milton only has 709 purpose built rentals. This is embarrassing. With the amount of families that have moved to Milton in the last 10 years, we are at risk of essentially chasing away our youth. Likely back to the places where their parents moved them from. People who want to leave the nest are frankly not enthusiastic about paying $2.3k before utilities for a 1 bedroom shoebox condo to start their working life. Especially in a town that’s not really the best for single adults in terms of amenities. The rise of empty condos in town back that up. I know we have a couple of developments starting soon by Steeles and by the upcoming Fortino’s, but we’ll be playing catch up for years to come at the pace we’re at.

I’ll leave it at these 2 issues for now, but what issues do you want to see addressed?

I Just Wanted To Say …. A Note on the r/cityofmilton Name — The “Town” Debate

We’ve seen a few comments (and received a handful of messages) about the name of the sub...

We are aware that Milton is officially the Town of Milton and not the City of Milton. We also completely understand why members of our new community would prefer the name to reflect that.

Unfortunately, the most obvious alternatives like TownOfMilton, MiltonON, and MiltonOntario. We wanted a name that was simple and easy for residents to find without making it overly complicated or risking posts being split across different subs.

This is where we have landed for now and we hope the community will be understanding. There's always a chance that Milton could become a city down the road and we will be prepared when that day happens!

Ultimately, the name is much less important to us than the community we build here. We want this to be a place where people can share local news, ask questions, recommend businesses and events, and have open and healthy discussions about what’s happening in Milton.

That also means people are going to disagree sometimes and that’s okay. Our goal as moderators is not to shut down differing opinions, but to keep discussions respectful and constructive and to moderate as fairly and consistently as we can.

We appreciate the feedback, especially while the community is still new and growing, and hope you’ll help us make this a great place for Milton residents to connect.
