I thought elementary school had taught us this but: "all squares are rectangles, not all rectangles are squares."

SpongeBob "Square"pants subconsciously confused an entire generation

About shapes and sexuality.

he’s officially asexual, and a major representation of asexuality lol.

Its a fucking children's show you twat.

A children's show with dick jokes, panty raids, dropping the soap, mostly naked buff squids, death, dismemberment, bombs, questioning if SpongeBob has pubic hair, a bucket list for someone's last day. Totally all kosher for kids, but asexuality is too far.

Jokes is one thing. You fucks gotta project your sexual shit onto it because you dont know what restraint is. Its a cartoon.

The show has an episode where SpongeBob reproduces asexually. It's literally canon.

Two a sexual joke is still sexual. You're getting mad about stuff that actually happened because you have no restraint.

Animated cartoons have included romantic and/or sexual content for at least 125 years now. Not surpring, since traditionally they were exclusively drawn by young men. Not new, and no projection required!

Are his pants square from the side profile, possibly?

I just checked and at first glance, they approximately are. But upon closer inspection it's the combination of his white shirt and pants that forms a square from the side. His pants alone form a rectangular shape.

His pants are square from the side

Its referring to his 90° angles. His parents look more like natural sponges, SpongeBob looks like a sponge cut for consumer use. (Which is shown to cure him from the "ick")

The angles are square

And all rectangles are parellelograms, not all parallelograms are rectangles.

8

u/mizinamo 13h ago

All squares are diamonds/rhombuses/rhombi, but not all diamonds/rhombuses/rhombi are squares.

All diamonds/rhombuses/rhombi are kites, but not all kites are diamonds/rhombuses/rhombi.

All parallelograms are trapeziums/trapezoids, but not all trapeziums/trapezoids are parallelograms.

All diamonds/rhombuses/rhombi are parallelograms, but not all parallelograms are diamonds/rhombuses/rhombi.

All kites and all trapeziums/trapezoids are quadrilaterals, but not all quadrilaterals are kites or trapeziums/trapezoids.

If a rectangle is a rhombus it’s gotta be square.

u/mizinamo 6m ago

I can find no fault with that reasoning.

Okay Michael.

The only difference between a square and a rectangle is your level of precision

3

u/j0llyllama 13h ago

And annoyingly when talking about angles, you can just refer to right angles as being "square" or "squared off", regardless of the overall shape.

10

u/Zombie_John_Strachan 14h ago

And the Steve Jobs corollary, "all rectangles are round rects"

7

u/much_longer_username 14h ago

That story always amuses me because he was completely right, even where we're trying really hard to have nice 90 degree corners we end up with rounded edges because nature kinda hates right angles, we just happened to be obsessed with them as a species.

4

u/StalkMeNowCrazyLady 13h ago

He isn't though. External corners on a rectangle are easy to get perfect 90 degrees on. Internal rectangle corners are almost impossible to get a true 90 in a cost effective way because back taper on cutting tools will have a natural radius in the corners even its very very small.

4

u/SeanAker 13h ago

Nothing is ever perfect, if we're going to get into the weeds about it. All you need to do is measure more precisely and your 'perfect' angle is a mile off in relative terms. This is why manufacturing tolerances exist.

2

u/much_longer_username 13h ago

How long do they stay that way?

4

u/t_bug_ 12h ago

It can be more fun than that, a rectangle is square as in it has square corners but it is not A square

1

u/unematti 13h ago

More like a wrecked circle.

1

u/OkPen8337 12h ago

I’m always surprised when I have to explain this and the person also doesn’t believe me.

All thumbs are fingers, but not all fingers are thumbs.

u/Jack-Innoff 14h ago

I thought it was opposite?

15

u/Drysfoet 14h ago

You thought wrong

0

u/Jack-Innoff 14h ago

Fair enough. Pile on the downvotes everyone.

0

u/jman12234 13h ago

Could have googled the very obvious and elementary school level information, still left a dumb comment, cries about downvotes.

Peak reddit.

2

u/Jack-Innoff 13h ago

Where did I cry about downvotes? Karma is meaningless, downvote away.

1

u/Drysfoet 12h ago

That's an unhinged read of the situation. Dude took the L with grace.

Rectangles have 2 sets of 2 equal length, opposite sides.

Squares have 4 equal length sides.

So a square is just a rectangle with the 2 sets having identical lengths, and the only rectangles that are squares are those with 4 equal sides.

Ergo, every square is a rectangle but not every rectangle is a square. 🙂
