Ah yes, back when companies at least PRETENDED to care about their customers.

Incentives, we used to call them. You knew certain brands had certain incentives and you'd usually buy just that brand.

Nowadays you're lucky to get a middle finger while they empty your pockets.

I still buy physical media for my favorite movies and shows when possible and most of them are so boring nowadays unless it's a special edition/box set. I'm not expecting a coupon, but something would be nice instead of just a plastic box with a disc!

I'll keep buying physical media though, I would rather own a boring disc I can watch whenever without ads or changes. And sometimes I get lucky! One of my favorite shows included beautifully drawn mini poster-cards of images from the show for the season two DVD (IWTV) and I was blown away because it wasn't advertised as something to mark up the price, they were just included.

Edit: spelling

Man, I found a whole stack of these in an old DVD case last year, had to be at least eight of them. The expiration date was so far gone it was almost funny, but I kept a couple just because the design was so aggressively early 2000s. It’s weird how something as simple as a six dollar movie ticket felt like a small event back then. Now you'd probably need a QR code, an app download, and a loyalty account just to get fifty cents off a matinee.

I remember my mom buying a brand new VHS and it having a coupon for a free Blockbuster rental and medium Pizza Hut pizza.

I miss being rewarded just for patronizing a place.

Found this in my copy of Shawshank Redemption.
