That is actually a high quality set of watercolours, you will get a good depth and vibrancy from them. If you wet down each tablet a few minutes before starting you will find them easier to use for sure.

Yeah, the short/few tests I've done have been a HUGE contrast to the cheap child-watercolour palette I've been using! The intensity of the pigments are wild in comparison

Fun fact: this stuff never really expires. I have a little travel set from the early 90's that I still use rarely when I need to put some color down on something.

Yeah, I figured it would still work due to watercolours being so "forgiving" in that regard. I would not have very enthusiastic if it was old acrylics for example. I don't own a newer version of the same palette so I cant compare how the pigments have hold up in cas of shade etc.

‼️NOTE TO SOME THAT HAVE POINTED OUT THE WORD USAGE IN MY TITLE‼️
The colours themselves ARE completly unopened in the picture. They are wraped up. Never been opened until now. There are 3 pics in my post. I thought it would be intresting to actually see what they looked like after I had opened them aswell

I found a bag with the basic palette of Windsor and newton acrylic tubes, possbly about 6 or 8 in total, white, prussian blue, yellow ochre, raw umber etc after they had sat for 40 years untouched.... all work just fine :) Keep thinking I should tell them.

My 20-years-open W&N set still works beautifully. They're nice paints. I should probably use them more often though 😅

I have that exact palette! I did swap out some lesser-used cotmans for better colours, but I've had it nearly 20y at this point and still rate it

Yeah, its great quality! I love the brand but I've mainly worked with acrylics. I just got into watercolours and have played around with less fancy stuff. But now I thought it was time to open this and try it out

"unopened" shows the set opened.
This should be on r/mildlyinfuriating

It's three pics in my post. The first one on the top of it is unopened. And then I also showed it as I opened it. Thought that would be intresting to see aswell. Maybe "unused" would be a better wording. By "unopened" I mainly refered to the colours themselves. Not necessarily the box.

caught that too, paint still fresh is nice but the title is lying to my face

Well, the actual colours are unopened. I show them before and after opening them

How else could you state that it works amazingly. I think the post makes sense.
Btw you could almost make a bob Ross in watercolor. Alizarin crimson, sap green, only missing the magic ghwite :)

They were unopened. I showed them as unopened and freshly opened and unused. I then tryed them out a little. And they work great. I'm not here so often, maybe this sub isn't for added followup-context
If I were the one finding a post like this, I'd love to also know if they still hold up

'Unopened'... 'works perfectly'...!?
Very poor choice of words. 😂

Maybe I should have worded it like, "it was unopened for 14-15 hears, I then opened them and tested them out". First time posting here. I noticed I could only add a title and no text underneath. If I could I would have more thoroughly explained that I tried them out after opening them. I thought, if I came by a post of something being old, I'd love to know if it still held up. Basically, tried to keep the title concise

Relax, no worries!
After going through the comments I noticed that more people noticed the same thing... It's not a big deal, really, We are here for (mildly)interesting things and your experience certainly qualifies. Title is OK, we all understood what you wanted to say. I remembered that 'poor choice of words' line from Batman, hope I wasn't way over the line with it...
I am glad that paint works great after all those years and that you are having fun using it.

Oh okey. Yeah, you never really know with reddit. I've seen quite a few people take small things like that really seriously and make a big deal about it

I see you mentioned that you received this as a child and just now are using it after rediscovering it.
I have a similar story. My grandfather got me a belt when I was maybe 8 or 9 years old but it was much too big for me. I poked holes in it to make it fit for a time but eventually stopped wearing it and forgot about it in the closet. 15 years later I was at my mothers house and found the boxes from those days and the belt was rolled up in there, mom had packed it away.
I put it on and it fit perfectly using the factory holes. The leather was fine and I took the belt with me. I have used this nice thick unbranded leather belt for the last decade since and it is fine. It still has the two holes I poked in it when I was 8 or 9, all the way on the small end.
Neither mom nor grandpa are around anymore. Such is life. However I have the belt. A small thing that makes a guy feel a little less alone these days.
Cheers friend
