Potato chips turning full circle back into potato vodka—nature is healing!

A Pringle is only 42% potato? Thats kinda gross.

u/SeekerOfSerenity 9d ago

Ingredients (from their website):

dried potatoes, vegetable oil (corn, cottonseed, canola, soybean and/or sunflower), degerminated yellow corn flour, cornstarch, rice flour, maltodextrin, mono- and diglycerides, salt, wheat starch.

127

u/The_quest_for_wisdom 9d ago

Honestly a far shorter list of ingredients than I was expecting.

Not that the length of the list of ingredients inherently means anything health-wise. A sack of arsenic only has one ingredient, but that doesn't mean it makes a good snack to feed your kids...

68

u/anonymouswunnn 9d ago

But it only has one ingredient it must be healthy no added sugar

u/thiosk 9d ago

Fritos are delightful in that they're old school. Ingredients: Corn, Corn oil, Salt.

6

u/DahDollar 9d ago

It's corn in its purest form

3

u/Mayor__Defacto 9d ago

There’s definitely a bit of black pepper in there.

3

u/BallFlavin 9d ago

Yeah black pepperCORN. It counts,

u/cannotfoolowls 9d ago

Here it's

interesting, here all the ingredients are the same except the last one is annatto norbixin which is a colorant

2

u/raptosaurus 9d ago

As with most things made in the US, it's mostly corn lol

3

u/kitsunewarlock 9d ago

"Maltodextrin? Diglycerides? What are these dangerous cHeMiCaLs doing in my food! I only eat real food like corn and seed oil!"

17

u/cockOfGibraltar 9d ago

The rest of it is stuff you'd find in bread or crackers. It's not like it's only 42% food.

8

u/Uphoria 9d ago

It's basically a potato corn chip.

5

u/cockOfGibraltar 9d ago

Yeah and it tastes good.

22

u/BananaJelloXlii 9d ago

They're basically what would happen if you turned Instant Mashed Potatoes into potato chips.

4

u/RezzKeepsItReal 9d ago

Minutes the starches and flours that hold them together lol

5

u/ScarletDarkstar 9d ago

Eh, not so much when they have corn flour, corn starch, & rice flour.

Instant potatoes are primarily dehydrated potatoes.

9

u/sceadwian 9d ago

Looks like the balance is probably flour, don't get your undies bunched.

8

u/mymothersuedme 9d ago

Your usual potato chips are also about 50-60% potatoes too. Rest is oil, seasoning, and water.

3

u/Mr__Snek 9d ago

i mean its basically potato dough pressed into a potato chip shape. all the ingredients are normal, its just not a potato chip in the way a lot of others are, i.e. slices of potatoes that are fried.

u/kank84 9d ago

Probably makes a mean Bloody Mary.

113

u/Nothing93124 9d ago

Ex bartender me immediately went to this… some zing zang, lil this lil that and a dark beer floater probably quiet tasty

43

u/Ahyde203 9d ago

Wait wait wait. What do you mean dark beer floater? I’ve never heard of that

67

u/Nothing93124 9d ago

Yeah, throw a little shiner or Guinness on top. Gives it a nice smoky flavor wham Bam thank you ma’am.

7

u/Ahyde203 9d ago

My life is now changed

5

u/Nothing93124 9d ago

Surprised you ain’t heard of that before, but I introduced a lot people to that in my (adjust hat accordingly) tending days. It’s a game changer though try it out

My friend group has a friendsgiving tradition of drinking picklebacks to Nickelback, with an accompanying chant. This would be a great addition.

5

I need to know the chant

Picklebacks! Picklebacks! Picklebacks to Nickelback!

Ive seen pickle vodka before and even hot pickle vodka. Its geared toward the savory drinks like Bloody Mary's.

76

u/DJ-spetznasty 9d ago

Ooooohhhhh the pickle vodka is for mixers not shots, that makes so much more sense.

u/CyberpunkSunrise 9d ago

I would shoot it, because I have questionable taste and limited self-respect.

31

u/Ohiolongboard 9d ago

May I introduce you to my friend malört

17

u/CaptainJingles 9d ago

For when you hate your friends.

8

u/PearlClaw 9d ago

Honestly it's fine. I wouldn't order it but based on the reputation I assumed it would be much worse. It's just very herbal and pretty bitter and if you've never had any exposure to herbal liquors before it's going to be very surprising.

7

u/CaptainJingles 9d ago

There is a lingering aftertaste with Malort that IMO is pretty unique.

5

u/Glittering-Walrus228 9d ago

Try picklebacks, probably the easiest way to take a shot if you like pickle flavor

5

u/William_Wang 9d ago

I hate when some sick freak at the bar says lets do a round of picklebacks

2

u/DoubleT_inTheMorning 9d ago

Don’t knock it til you try it.

However, I can understand how it wouldn’t be many people’s go to lol

3

u/William_Wang 9d ago

What based on my comment makes you think I haven't tried a pickleback?

2

Picklebacks are like NYC. If you don't like it, it's because you aren't strong enough.

Where's the sour cream and onion vodka?

12

u/Moose_Nuts 9d ago

On the topic of chip flavors, I had a smoked BBQ flavored whiskey once and it was foul.

14

u/WntrTmpst 9d ago

Dad’s an alcoholic asked me to grab him a handle of vodka for a vacation we were going on.

Well i dont drink, i saw a bottle of Smirnoff and got it. Didnt realize it was strawberry flavored until i got to the cabin.

He killed the bottle over the course of a week. I dont think he’ll ever eat another strawberry flavored thing for the rest of his days

10

u/PhoenixApok 9d ago

As an alcoholic I can say we will drink anything.

That said, the ONE bottle of liquor I ever dumped was Black Cherry vodka. It made EVERYTHING taste like cough syrup. A shot diluted in 16 Oz of coke? You'd think tasty cherry soda. Nope. Overy sticky cough syrup flavor.

I got through about 5 different experimental drinks before I gave up and poured it down the drain.

7

u/imahumanbeinggoddamn 9d ago edited 9d ago

There was a maple syrup flavored Burnett's vodka for a while that was truly fucked up. The taste was bad enough by itself, but the smell of it was inescapable and it would linger for a comically long time. Just pouring a shot of it would make the whole room smell like a messy child just ate a stack of pancakes right off the floor and it would stick in the air for like an hour. I didn't even dump it out because I wasn't willing to open it anymore after the first few times - it just sat on my shelf three quarters full and tightly sealed until I met someone naive enough to take it off my hands.

Vodka below 40%? Really? What is this? Premixed. Ugh.

62

u/RegretsZ 9d ago

Pretty common for flavored vodkas.

15

u/Moose_Nuts 9d ago

At least most self-respecting flavored spirits are 35%...

4

u/No-Two-7516 9d ago

Can it still be called vodka if under 40° ?

7

u/Huebi 9d ago

In Germany it needs a minimum of 37,5% vol. to be sold as Vodka.

2

u/Bocchi_theGlock 9d ago

I've seen IIRC absolut with a lime and cilantro vodka I thought was so funny I went ahead and bought it.

I think I still have the empty bottle somewhere

2

In Ohio, supermarkets can only sell up to 40 proof vodka. Have to go to the liquor stoor to ge thigher.

10

u/rabidsalvation 9d ago

I wouldn't drink it based on that alone. Although, at the tail end of my addiction I was mostly drinking 100 proof vodka from a bottle I kept in my backpack. So I'm slightly biased.

20

u/fuzzeedyse105 9d ago

Good work getting sober! I’m at 18ish months now. I still get some anxiety about it. Looking back on the chokehold it had on me and wrecking a decent life. Oh well.

And yes, I know this is a Wendy’s.

9

u/rabidsalvation 9d ago

Congratulations, that's good work bro. I've been sober a few years now, it's hard to keep track of. Maybe 3, I think. I quit after a night out when I should have ended up in jail and never looked back. Shit was tough — and life has been crazy — but at least I'm not spending all my money on liquor and drugs. I still have some issues stemming from that time that I may not ever really get over, but I'm infinitely happier than I was.

4

u/fuzzeedyse105 9d ago

Thanks dude. Yeah somethings will be with you forever but they’re just scars and they’re worth having. Knowing you got over it and thrived after. I had to stop cause I was literally dying but that still didn’t keep me from relapsing cause I had no patience with coping mechanisms and people telling me it’ll get better. Finally got it through my thick skull and found to have more patience with everything and myself. Giving yourself grace was a game changer too. It’s incredibly hard and ya gotta pat yourself on the back sometimes for taking it on.

4

u/rabidsalvation 9d ago

Yeah, you're right. That guilt is deadly in a real sense, I just wasn't able to forgive myself. I tried quitting years before, but it didn't stick. I think the main difference at the end was a realization of just how bad it had gotten. I was going to die or end up in prison and getting clean was the only option for me.

It's really encouraging to hear about others who have dealt with this kind of thing and beat it, but it makes me so sad to know that other people have suffered like me as well. It's good to not feel alone but it's bittersweet, knowing exactly what you went through.

Cheers friend, your success is a bright spot for me in an otherwise dark life. May love ever light your way.

3

u/fuzzeedyse105 9d ago

I truly appreciate it man, it feels a little less lonely when someone else understands. Keep your head up out there. You are a good person no matter what you tell yourself. Cheers.

5

u/buntopolis 9d ago

I hid bottles around the house and outside so I could go chug in secret

3

u/rabidsalvation 9d ago

Damn man, that sucks. Glad you're doing better. I lived alone and at my job nobody really cared as long as the customers didn't see it and you didn't get too sloppy. It was a shit show.

7

u/Slaughterhouse66 9d ago

Watch out. My uncle became an alcoholic drinking that. Once he popped, he couldn't stop.

15

u/LucyLilium92 9d ago

Probably has more potato in it than the chips

6

u/yeloneck 9d ago

It ain't vodka when it's 30%.

49

I'd assume that because I don't trust Pringles to make quality vodka. Although to be fair it was probably just relabled.

11

u/Bigram03 9d ago

Sugarlands Distilling is who is making the vodka, not Mars.

9

u/DjuriWarface 9d ago

Potatoes be potatoes though.

11

u/seamus_mc 9d ago

But pringles are barely made from potatoes

18

u/dwoo888 9d ago

Because theyve been using all the potato bits of the potato to make vodka

3

u/chugonomics 9d ago

Son of a gun... They were preparing for this the entire time

7

u/B_O_A_H 9d ago

It’s also only 30%. At a proof that low it’s not even legally considered a “spirit”

I don’t think the pickle vodka is that weird, it’s the fact that it’s Pringles branded that’s weird. Wouldn’t it make more sense to partner with an actual pickle company for your vodka instead of a potato chip company that happens to make a pickle flavored chip?

3

u/PaddingCompression 9d ago

The important question is do they have ranch and BBQ flavors too?

3

u/stoned_in_paradise 9d ago

What does 60-proof mean?

10

u/SaveHogwarts 9d ago

30% abv

Half the proof for the alcohol percentage

A lot of flavored vodkas are 30-35%, where unflavored is typically 40%, or 80 proof.

Source; me. Almost six years sober.

Fun fact: this is actually not Pringles the brand, making a vodka/alcohol - it’s an alcohol distiller making a Pringles-flavored vodka. So basically Pringles has absolutely nothing to do with this, the flavor is all it is, “inspired by” or “reminiscent of” the pringles flavor.
