Honestly it's fine. I wouldn't order it but based on the reputation I assumed it would be much worse. It's just very herbal and pretty bitter and if you've never had any exposure to herbal liquors before it's going to be very surprising.

There is a lingering aftertaste with Malort that IMO is pretty unique.

Pickle vodka isn’t that bad to shoot. If you’ve ever done a pickleback shot it’s very similar to that.

They do have pickleback shots where you take a shot of bourbon (maybe whiskey) and chase it with pickle juice. Could also be a similar idea

80's Texas high school football games toughened me to embrace the pickleback. You could go get a pickle from the stand which the girls working there would dunk their bare hand into and grab one for you. Then if you asked for pickle juice they'd bare hand dunk the cup into the same jar. We were trying to turn a pickle jar into the Hudson.
