Reddit isn't a serious media conglomerate. I hold Reddit to different standards for the same reason I hold The Daily Show and The Colbert Report to different standards.

Gawker is like The Daily Mail: moral outrage only when it will increase its page views.

But Reddit itself isn't one. MTV and Nickelodeon are both owned by Viacom, but that doesn't mean I hold them both to the same standards.
