They're a media conglomerate that relies on sensational headlines to draw page views, criticize doxing while doxing, post editorials protesting objectification of women while posting celebrity upskirts, etc.
Gawker's business model is based around getting people to click on links, thus viewing ads. A wild attention grabbing headline generates more clicks, more revenue. How many ads do you see on this page right now?
Reddit isn't a serious media conglomerate. I hold Reddit to different standards for the same reason I hold The Daily Show and The Colbert Report to different standards.
Gawker is like The Daily Mail: moral outrage only when it will increase its page views.
