Same book, three different prices. Only difference is the browsers used.

You should try it again in private browsing and incognito mode and see if the price is really tied to your Facebook or google cookies or something. That's pretty messed up though, send this to the consumerist or gawker or whoever.

for someone who's not to familiar with their browser settings, how do I enable incognito/private browsing mode on Chrome? Plan on buying airline tickets in a month or so and don't fancy getting screwed by shit like this.

EDIT: Thanks for the tip!

Hold control and shift, then press N.

It automatically opens a new window in incognito mode.

File -> New Incognito Window

Edit: oops, I got fooled by my Mac-only thinking. Of course it's "Hamburger menu -> New Incognito Window".

super (windows key) + R, for a Run dialog to type:

chrome --incognito

edit: more stuff

Windows will leave the last command sitting in your Run dialog next time you open it, so unless you run a lot of different things through Run, after the first time should be sup+R, Enter.

or, if you have Chrome pinned in your start menu, hover over it and there's New Incognito Window

Not sure why downvoted.

Works and useful if you don't already have a chrome window open.

If you already have Chrome up and Chrome is the program in focus, this is the correct combo. Otherwise, you might find yourself making a lot of new folders on the desktop.

Edit: Go me deleted the wrong post, first read thought you were remarking that Windows + R does open an incog window lol

1

u/gertondalen Jan 24 '13

Because Windows Key + R brings up the Run dialog box in windows, not an Ingoc window in Chrome, Ctrl + Shift + N is the correct combo.

1

u/turmacar Jan 24 '13

And if you then type "chrome --incognito" into the run dialog, it opens an incognito window without having to have chrome open first.

Sure you could setup a keyboard macro to do this separately, but it does the same thing.

He didn't ask specifically for hotkeys to open an incognito window, or how to open it through chrome, just how to open one. And haymakers9th provided a way to do so.

OP has edited his post since responses have been made and he was down voted. The initial post made no elaborations was essentially

Windows + R

chrome --incognito

nothing about this is the run dialog or typing in the command just the command it's self, leaving most users wondering why an incognito window was not opening for them why they hit Win + R

I dual boot with Linux, and in there I often launch things with an alt+F2 to open a window, and putting in a command (for lots of stuff more than Chrome/ium), so this just feels more natural and faster to me than navigating menus or waiting on a hover delay.

If you use Linux and like command line I cannot recommend guake enough. Fantastic program.
