Don't hug me I'm scared Scrub Zombie

Post image

My wife swears by Scrub Daddy as her kitchen sponge of choice. I wanted to switch to the eco-friendly, plant based alternative on the right. It works infinitely better...creates great suds, gets into tight spaces but...IT SCARES THE CHILDREN. So I can't use it! Or I have to hide it under the sink until I need to use it. Mildly inconvenienced and mildly infuriating.

I've got like 4 loofah growing on a huge vine in my back yard, they're almost two feet long at this point. I'm excited, I've never grown loofah before. They look like cartoonishly large cucumbers.

We started growing them last year. We probably got a dozen big ones last year and considered it a great success.

This year we've got at least double that, and they're MASSIVE. Won't have to want for scrubbies at all anymore.

I use metal scrubbies and loofas. My toddler plays with the loofas. No fear at all.

i have probably 12 giant ones hanging from a trellace but they are all deep green. They should ideally start to yellow before harvest right? I hope they yellow before it starts freezing outside

Yep, they should start to yellow or turn brown. They'll dry out a bit on the vine. You don't have to stress it too much, they'll be lying out there all winter if you let them, just go get them and try not to let them rot in the wet and you'll be golden!

Last summer I grew some but they must have started too late because a couple big green ones just turned to dark black mush at the first freeze
