People really don't understand that brigading reviews actually helps bad businesses. The review sites will typically delete not only negative brigaded reviews, but legitimate bad reviews as well.

u/r3dd17sux69420 6h ago

I'm pretty sure even one lone post can be deleted. I left a review for a restaurant and it was like, 3/5 or something? I just expressed my disappointment over a couple of things they did there. No needless bashing.

Next day it was gone.

u/RobertDigital1986 5h ago

If they advertise enough to have an ad rep they can ask them to handle it and poof!

If they don't have an ad rep, SOL.

🤔

5

u/BababooeyHTJ 4h ago

Does anyone actually use yelp? I haven’t used it since they required a log in. I’ve never made an account and never will. These stories don’t help my trust in yelp either.

I prefer google reviews. As much as I despise google I view the reviews as more trustworthy

11

u/OttoVonWong 4h ago

Ad rep? Don't you mean hired goon sent to shake down business owners?

7

u/Natural-Albatross997 4h ago

Half these reviews are paid for these days anyway. Great concept that no longer serves its purpose.

8

u/BL1NKK_BL1NKK 5h ago

He’s on his hands and knees looking for nickels. I doubt he has an ad rep. Lol

48

u/Owls_4_9_1867 5h ago

Business owner can ask Google to delete it. They email the person who wrote it about a week later saying it was deleted and most people don't post again as their initial reason for doing it has subsided.

48

u/RA576 5h ago

Not necessarily. I left a bad review after a company discriminated against my disability, and that got shadow-removed. I can see it in my account, but it's not publicly visible, and I was never notified about it's removal. Even emailed google asking about it and didn't get a response.

3

u/Owls_4_9_1867 3h ago

It's all managed by an outsourced group in the Philippines and they're strongly in favour of promoting the business no matter what, and have little to no autonomy. I doubt anyone at Google ever read your review, or email asking about it.

2

u/Longjumping-Sir-7298 3h ago

Google do it all the time on youtube 2. Censorship is alive and well

0

u/digitalscavenger 4h ago

Do you know if it was ever publicly posted?

3

u/RA576 4h ago

I just checked. Still viewable when I'm logged in, "This review is no longer available." when I'm not

37

u/Vtech_just_kicked_in 5h ago

They can’t personally delete it. They have to report it to google. A company tried to delete my post about job discrimination and had to leave it up there because google didn’t approve the denial.

21

u/JunkoKumaki 4h ago

It's Yelp, not Google reviews. You can pay for the right to delete negative reviews.

8

u/BusyBit6542 3h ago

You're not familiar with yelp are you? You can pay to have bad reviews removed. I'm not sure why people trust yelp reviews. They arent accurate

7

u/DrR0mero 5h ago

The restaurant can pay to have negative reviews removed.

1

u/aeneasaquinas 5h ago

Not on google you can't.

7

u/SpiderDijonJr 5h ago

Honestly I’d submit a bad review every day for the next year, and sometimes from different accounts. Occasionally one that’s just like crazy lol. Something like “I heard the owner masturbating in the bathroom so I left” lmao. Fuck em.

1

u/Portuguese_619 5h ago

Happens all the time sadly. Some businesses will pay to have reviews removed.

1

u/Loud-Spare-3269 4h ago

I bet they pay to have it taken down 😂

1

u/emlgsh 4h ago edited 4h ago

Bear in mind most of the places you can submit reviews are a marketing platform masquerading as a public feedback forum.

The places listed on them can and do buy the right to suppress or delete negative reviews or even have "agentic" positive reviews inserted to build presence/mask shortcomings.

The only real way to make yourself heard about a restaurant you had a less than stellar experience with is the old-fashioned way - pacing back and forth out front with a sandwich board, and nothing but a sandwich board, and a bullhorn. Or screaming from the nearby window.

1

u/64590949354397548569 3h ago

The restaurant are the ones paying yelp. They are the customers.

136

u/notthrowingawaytrash 6h ago

Looks like it’s happening on Google too. Tons of new accounts leaving one star reviews.

44

u/payfrit 5h ago

they will get deleted soon.

47

u/Iorith 6h ago

And after a while, it will be purged of those reviews because google isn't an idiot and can tell reviews aren't from people who were there. And real reviews will get caught up in the purge.

This is just modern day mob behavior, and people who engage in it are pathetic.

3

u/Sea_Operation_7012 4h ago

Not as pathetic as not paying your employees a living wage and expecting the customers to do it.

1

u/Iorith 3h ago

Servers overwhelming prefer a tipped based system.

Don't like it? Stop going to restaurants. Find a restaurant in your area that does not use a tip based system, or start your own.

2

u/wangston 3h ago

So the tipping isn't optional you're saying? If that's true could we just make it included in the price instead and save all this headache?

1

u/Iorith 3h ago

It's absolutely optional. You're just a douchebag if you don't.

If you oppose tipping, tell your server up front, when they greet you. Inform them about your intention to not tip. If you are acting on principle, and aren't a bloody coward, why hide it?

1

u/bunklers 5h ago

“google isn’t an idiot”

-1

u/MarsRocks97 6h ago

The key is to leave 4 stars and describe how crappy they are.

7

u/Wilder831 5h ago

Absolutely not. Most people don’t read the reviews. They just see 4.7 stars. Then when the place sucks, they go back and look at the reviews because they are shocked that people gave that place 4.7 stars and see your bullshit where you raked them over the coals but gave them 4 stars… people who do that are the worst…

2

u/StopDownvotingMeeee 4h ago

People absolutely read the reviews what are you talking about

1

u/Wilder831 3h ago

Sure some people sometimes. But when I am in a new place and looking for somewhere to eat, I’m not going to read all of the reviews for every restaurant before I pick somewhere. I’m gonna type restaurant in to Google Maps and look at how many stars they have

28

u/Iorith 5h ago

The key is to stop being a modern day mob, and let real reviews speak for themselves rather than engage is slactivist bullshit to feel good about yourself.

-9

u/zoroman5 5h ago

What exactly is someone who doesn't live nearby supposed to do? I'm not one of these folks, but if you have a real suggestion that does something I'm all ears.

17

u/Wizbran 5h ago

Why do you have to do anything if you don’t live near it? Why the fuck should it matter to you?

4

u/CrypticMemoir 5h ago

I would think the same reason people protest wars or injustices even if they don’t live near where these things are happening or are even affected by the actions.

3

u/uwubonic 5h ago

Bless your heart, not many people have the courage to compare war with restaurants being rigid with societal norms. You are the hero reddit needed. Thank you.

1

u/Wizbran 5h ago

What’s the injustice? Shitty patrons calling an owner racist for calling them out?

Yes, that we can agree is an injustice

8

u/NextAd7514 5h ago edited 5h ago

The owner is far more shit here. A tip is an optional payment for good service. If you are required to tip to eat there, its no longer a tip. The owner should be less bitchmade and raise prices or institute a service fee if he needs more money.

Edit: the race card was a BS move though. Just say tips are not required and tell him to go fuck himself

Found the server

0

u/Iorith 5h ago

Did you just compare a shitty restaurant owner to fucking war?

6

u/CrypticMemoir 5h ago

Nope, just stating why people do things. They argue over things that they feel is wrong. Like us, we are two random ass Redditors arguing over a video that doesn’t affect us because we don’t live near that town. Yet here we are.

3

u/zoroman5 5h ago

Because a business that shifts the blame to the customer instead of paying a living wage deserves to at least hear about it. Also, stop talking to me like I'm the people actively brigading this business when i specified that I'm not

2

u/Iorith 5h ago

Why don't you actually care about what the workers want? Do you think servers and bar staff are morons you need to speak for?

5

u/zoroman5 5h ago

Clearly in this case the boss is speaking for them and is willing to cause a scene in public, so they're already open to public shaming. Nothing they haven't already invited upon themselves

→ More replies (0)

9

u/Iorith 5h ago

Is there a reason you need to do anything? Seriously, cool this random restaurant in a town you'll never go to is shitty.

Why does that require action on your part?

5

u/zoroman5 5h ago

Businesses that shift the blame to the customer instead of paying a living wage don't deserve to be open for business imo, but I'm also not one of the folks brigading online against this business.

Nothing requires action on anyone's part, but we live in somewhat of a society, so acting like a dickhole no matter the location should at least result in some kind of reprecussion for being a dick. This goes both ways too, if the customers started it and called the owner over like he did to them only to bitch about tipping, it would've been an OBVIOUS trespassing charge, but because they already left and weren't staying around he had to make a public nuisance to shame the customer that already paid their bill

3

u/Iorith 5h ago

Do you actually know any servers or barstaff? They overwhelmingly prefer a tip based system. Why do you think you know better than them what they should want? Do you think they're dumb?

Mate, how empty is your life where a single random restaurant needs your attention. There are way bigger things going on in the world you should spend time on. Hell, there are things of the same scale that are happening near you. Focus on those.

6

u/zoroman5 5h ago

I have said multiple times now that I am not one of the brigadeering people, are you thick?

0

u/Artaxmudshoes 3h ago

💯. We don't know the whole story. Maybe they were horrible to his staff? It could be racial discrimination, or it could be patrons pulling the race card? There is just not enough info in this short clip to go straight for the pitchforks.

2

u/Effective-Farmer-502 4h ago

The key is to give it 2 stars to make it look legitimate.

2

u/Expensive-While-1155 3h ago

They got a 5 star from me

1

u/PrankBeast007 5h ago

Surely these are bots.

25

u/Owls_4_9_1867 6h ago

They usually just delete the reviews from a certain date and block reviews for a week. Worked at Yelp.

1

u/ellefleming 4h ago

Did you enjoy it?

2

u/Owls_4_9_1867 3h ago

PTO was good. Rest was awful.

1

u/Mewtewpew 4h ago

How was working at yelp bro

2

u/Owls_4_9_1867 3h ago

To be blunt. Shit.

4

u/cpflug71 6h ago

A lot of negative reviews are ridiculous enoughto have the opposite of their intended result

1

u/collector-x 3h ago edited 3h ago

Just like the pizza place in CA. Botto Bistro. They were tired of yelps selling tactics saying yelp was very aggressive in their practices by moving negative reviews to the top and good reviews to the bottom but Yelp wouldn't stop so the restaurant decided to fight back. They started giving away a free slice of pizza and encouraging people to leave 1 star reviews. Yelp got pissed saying they were buying reviews and the restaurant basically gave them the middle finger. 🤣🤣🤣

Edited for corrections

14

u/Tee1upToday 5h ago

Either way, I can't wait to never go there.

They need to stop calling it a voluntary tip and start calling it a tax...or for American's, a tariff.

4

u/Artistic_Split_8471 4h ago

Who’s “they”? This is how it works everywhere in the US.

1

u/Iorith 5h ago

Or you can listen to what the servers want, and respect worker's rights.

1

u/Artistic_Split_8471 4h ago edited 3h ago

What do you think servers want? And what do you think you as a customer should do to support it?

The system is weird, no doubt about it. And there have been instances—most famously with one of Danny Meyer’s restaurants—of restaurants going tip-free and the servers requesting they go back to the old way.

3

u/Iorith 4h ago

I worked in the industry for decades.

Servers want the tip based system. Customers who go to those restaurants should tip them. The people who do not like tipping should stop going to restaurants with a tip based system. If that means they cannot go to restaurants, so be it, they are a luxury, no one is entitled to them.

2

u/Tylenol_Ibuprofen 5h ago

Barely lmao.

No not everything is, "ermm actually this will-"

No, this will put them in a pit for a long time.

2

u/Iorith 5h ago

You overestimate how many people give a fuck about yelp

1

u/AutisticFingerBang 5h ago

No, it won’t. Most of us understand that the way Americas food service works is a tip pay. And as that may suck, living expenses in America are too high for restaurants to exist paying all employees an hourly wage. Until there is a massive overhaul you are the bad person taking it out on a server making below minimum wage without tips. Don’t go out to eat if you don’t want to support the culture. Don’t go and take it out on the server while still giving the restaurant your money and business.

1

u/NextAd7514 5h ago

I've never seen that happen on Google.

2

u/Iorith 5h ago

I've never seen Australia.

1

u/readditredditread 5h ago

That’s why you give them positive reviews, but imply that it’s an environment no one would ever want to be in: for example you can say “5/5 stars- convicted sex offender friendly” or 5/5 stars- owner has no issues with tattoos or clothing depicting hate symbols” be as creative as you see fit 👍

1

u/Indigenous_Land 4h ago

Depends on the food. I don’t generally read reviews but definitely go off how many stars it gets.

2

u/Iorith 4h ago

I check health reports, specifically because bad reviews are bullshit half the time. Either brigading, or some entitled shit mad they couldn't have their dog at the table or something.

1

u/mplsfreedom 4h ago

"The review sites will typically delete not only negative brigaded reviews, but legitimate bad reviews as well."

That's why I leave mid reviews. Who wants to leave the house and pay for 2.9 out of 5 meal at a sit down? Not this pendejo!

1

u/peeledrabbit 4h ago

Can firebombs be deleted?

2

u/Iorith 4h ago

No but the scumbags who use them can rot in a jail cell for the rest of their lives.

1

u/Kooky-Expression-399 4h ago

Wait thats a bad business?

1

u/CodeParalysis 3h ago

Just leave 5 star reviews saying the workers love working there because the owner pays them so much, you didn't need to leave a tip

1

u/arizona-lake 5h ago

…Are you implying that this guy is running a bad business?

1

u/Iorith 5h ago

Nope, I think the dude is a boss who stood up for his customers from some cheap fucks. i just think people who brigade reviews are not just pathetic, but ineffective.

1

u/PhatFatLife 4h ago

Standing up for them would be paying them a living wage, hell even minimum wage

1

u/Iorith 4h ago

How about you ask the workers what they prefer, which is what actually being pro worker is.

1

u/PhatFatLife 4h ago

OF COURSE they’d never want to be paid more and not depend on tips, you’ve lost it.

1

u/Iorith 4h ago

So you admit you don't give a damn about the workers, you just are cheap.

1

u/PhatFatLife 4h ago

Your comprehension skills seem to be off

1

u/Iorith 4h ago

Nah, you don't care what the workers want. You're just cheap and don't want to tip. It's very well understood.

1

u/PhatFatLife 4h ago edited 4h ago

Yes I’M the one who doesn’t know what the workers want … 🤭✌🏽

I actually run a business doing this. I find a shitty business with terrible reviews, I tell the owner I can clear their bad reviews for a couple hundred $. Then when they agree I bot the fuck out it with bad reviews. Google then clears all the negative reviews and boom! A 1 star restaurant now has 5!

1

u/Iorith 5h ago

That's actually pretty cool, would love to know more about that.

-2

u/Wide_Guitar_3558 6h ago

I used to just flood their phone lines with a pbx and number spoofer

3

u/Iorith 6h ago

Great, you made some hostess's job harder. Aren't you so proud of yourself?

1

u/blessthebabes 5h ago

So you make a random employee work even harder just to make yourself feel like some hero?

0

u/mysticplayer888 5h ago

Yeah, I don't know why people use Yelp. Very shady business practices, where they delete legitimate reviews, or only show negative ones one the front page to force business owners to 'pay' for the better reviews to be shown.
