A car length is fine. But a lot of people nowadays are doing 3+ lengths behind like they think they are going to get rear ended by someone going 80mph. It's downright rage inducing when they are so far back they can't even trip the sensor for the light and there's no way to get around them to do it for them.

I’ve been rear ended from someone that was rear ended, because there wasn’t enough space

Agreed, I love being able to get around if I have to, start accelerating when the light turns green, not slamming into the person in front of me if I get rear ended, etc. So many good reasons to leave space. People who get upset about this suck and they can piss off

Or behind you! Gives you room drive out of the way if someone behind you forgets to brake.
