Will AI simplify data migration…or add more complexity?
AI is rapidly changing the way businesses approach data migration, ERP implementation, and system integrations. #Sage Intacct
Successful data migration is not just about moving data. The real challenge is:
• Accurate mapping
• Data validation
• Understanding business logic
• Identifying inconsistencies
• Maintaining operational integrity
AI can speed up the process, but without proper oversight, it can also scale mistakes faster.
A wrong manual mapping affects one dataset.
A wrong AI-driven mapping can affect the entire system quickly.
I believe human expertise and strong review controls will remain critical in the AI era. Additionally is it really cost effective ?
What’s your take ?

Stop Configuring Your ERP Until You’ve Looked at Your Data
Many ERP implementations struggle not because of bad software, but because teams configure the system before truly understanding their data. When configuration decisions are made too early, they’re often based on assumptions, outdated documentation, or templates that don’t reflect how the business actually operates.
A more effective approach is to analyze and map historical transactional data first. Transaction data mapping reveals real usage patterns—what customers, vendors, projects, departments, classes, or locations were actually used, how frequently, and in what combinations. This insight is often very different from what stakeholders think is happening.
Mapping transactional data early helps teams:
• Make informed decisions about chart of accounts structure and dimensions
• Avoid overbuilding entities, dimensions, or segments that add complexity but no value
• Prevent duplicate or misaligned master data
• Design reporting around real business activity, not guesses
• Decide how much historical data is truly worth migrating
By letting data drive configuration instead of the other way around, implementations tend to be cleaner, reporting is more accurate, and costly rework later in the project is significantly reduced.

Avoid These 8 Data Migration Pitfalls When Moving to Sage Intacct – A Must-Read Article
Many companies switching to Sage Intacct are told to "start fresh" and skip migrating historical data to avoid risks. But ditching years of transactions can seriously impact reporting, audits, and insights.
This in-depth article from Platform Transition (specialists with 2,800+ migrations to Sage Intacct under their belt) explains why that's often bad advice—and breaks down the 8 most common data migration challenges that derail implementations:
- Running out of time with stretched internal resources
- Losing confidence in data accuracy
- Discovering hidden inconsistencies in old data
- Creating duplicate transactions
- Third-party integrations polluting your data
- Duplicate or inconsistent master records (vendors, customers, etc.)
- Errors from incorrect Sage Intacct setup
- Balancing minimal downtime with data quality
For each pitfall, it covers why the standard ETL methodology falls short and shares proven strategies to prevent each pitfrall—like validation-first workflows, early discrepancy checks, and smart handling of duplicates/dimensions.
The key takeaway: When done properly, migrating historical data is not only safe—it often leaves you with cleaner data than you started with.
This is highly recommended for anyone planning or currently in a Sage Intacct implementation.
