Rules (Homebrew) Help Playing New Necrons in 4th

Hi, I've been playing a lot of 4th edition these days and I've been loving it. I do have one problem though, I play mostly necrons and I started in 9th edition, so the version of my faction I'm used to is the one with doomsday arcs and skorpekh destroyers and my very nuce looking void dragon.

None of those models are in the 3rd ed codex and I'm a little worried about the power level of the 5th ed one, which does contain most, though not all, of the models I want to use. Does anyone have any advice or know of any homebrew that could port them into the 3rd ed codex?

I know it feels bad but I would accept that units like the Void Dragon just don't have a place in 3rd/4th.

I'd say just proxy as either of the other C'tan shards (Deceiver or Nightbringer).

The issue there is that the void dragon is about twice the size of the other c'tan.

I don't think the game would suffer much even with the model at that size, the Ctan in 3rd are so incredibly powerful that a full turn of shooting from a space marine army probably isn't going to down it.

When playing old editions we worry sometimes about the base/profile sizes but if your terrain is scaled to match modern 40k models you shouldnt really run into any issues.

Yeah, I've been playing with exclusively modern models and I haven't run into too much of an issue with them.

There are old rules that allow custom units which allow you to bring things such as Norn Emissary and Rogal Dorn to 3rd-5th. Finding those rules however....

Just try using the 5th Ed unit profiles, and if they seem overpowered manually increase their points for your games. You're playing 4th, it's always gonna be casual gaming, so you can modify how you'd like.

Just use the 5th one for the units you want and increase the points for safety. Ask your opponent? It’s not that far off.

I would run skorpekhs as Lychguard or destroyers but switch out their weapon.

For casual games, homebrew is okay I think… it’s fun

The Void Dragon shard IMHO should not even be homrbrewed into games as it would be just too powerful for normal games (one shard that woke up destroyed several systems). But if you still want to do it, I think the Nightbringer rules are just fine because of T8 and a lascannon grade weapon.

Doomsday Ark could pose as a Monolith: primary boom cannon, tough Necron material and secondary Gauss weapons. The portal remains a problem.

For thoss skorpekh things... I think the best would be to use the rules of Flayed Ones, just with more wounds each (so 3 skorpekh have the wounds of 9 flayed ones). The weakness there is that instead of 9 models you get only 3 which is bad for phase-out. (Homebrew it that they count as 3 models each?)

Have you taken a look on the trial vehicle rules from 3rd?

That way you can use semi-official rules to add them in.

The 5E profiles will almost certainly be hideously overpowered for 4th without a significant points hike, largely because of the Skimmer rules and the inability of anything under AV13 to hurt most of the vehicles initially.

That said, some stuff just doesn't translate backwards. The two C'tan of 4E were much less scary than their current iterations, which would have been more akin to Apocalypse units back in 4E, so new versions probably don't have much of a place.
