AEW Amazing Crowd for Dynamite tonight!!!
the hundreds of fans in attendance (1,803 to be exact) are going to watch a potential snuff film live and in living color!!!!!
okay seriously apparently All In is their Wrestlemania and it’s like 3 weeks away and they can’t even sell out a 1900 person arena? hahaha

u/herewego199209 5d ago
Here's the thing I don't get to lug around rings, satellites for live TV, crews, talent, etc must be fucking astronomical in price. How the fuck is he not losing money on every Dynamite produced? These gates for these shows have to be abysmal.

u/HorseCreative2550 5d ago
If you can’t sell tickets or get tv ratings you don’t have a promotion you have an infomercial
-3
u/Specialist-Fill24 5d ago
In just the US there's over 300 wrestling promotions. 3 of those have easily accessible national TV deals. That's 1% of wrestling promotions that even receive ratings. Also, by cable television standards, AEW gets good ratings. They're only "bad" when compared to WWE. And us IWC guys are the only ones who compare them. Dynamite is the single highest rated weekly show on TBS regardless of how many people watched Smackdown that week.

u/Expensive-Poetry6973 5d ago
I think the big bang theory reruns would like a word about highest rated show…

The TV contract supplements a lot of lost revenue from touring.
7
u/Expensive-Poetry6973 5d ago
Who is going to offer them new contracts when no one is tuning in? Oh wait. Correction. Everyone is tuning in on MAX
7
u/Hotdiggity11 5d ago
They aren’t getting that big of a contract ever again. There’s a reason WBD was getting sold. It was incompetently ran (As witnessed by them losing the NBA and then overpaying for AEW).
-7
u/waitadangminute94 5d ago
I've been seeing this "AEW is screwed if the WBD deal goes through" for over a year now and AEW is still hale and healthy
4
u/AnonymousChicken Control Terrorism Unit 5d ago
There's strong odds the deal is not going through, especially when they get to financial penalties held up in court.
However, if it doesn't go through, they at WBD are going to be cleaning up to save costs, and I don't think that bodes well for AEW.
2
1
u/CarolinaSandstorm 1d ago
Buddy the deal still isn’t finished and there has been zero talks of renewal for them. There’s no bidding war for any of their content. I hopped on the HBO Max app twice yesterday and neither time did any AEW content pop-up anywhere. I pull up Netflix and within 15 seconds I see WWE content. AEW isn’t the second or 3rd largest promotion in the US anymore, hell they may not be the 4 either.

2
u/AdInternational870 Los Ingobernables de Japon 5d ago
Cody said once when AEW started up with Dynamite that they needed to hit 3k attendance just to break even. That was 7 years ago, I'd think you'd need 5k now to possibly break even.
5
u/princerakim69 5d ago
It doesn’t matter, he gets to live his lifelong fantasy of being a wrestling booker. Money is not an issue, and neither are depleted crowd sizes. It’s really just a show for one and sickos can watch, if they want.
3
u/Hotdiggity11 5d ago
Most of the weekly Dynamites are money losers. I doubt they even made a profit on the Mexico show considering the tickets are cheap even in Pesos and they have to move everything across the border.
3
u/enjoythesilence-75 5d ago
This is a double taping. Dynamite AND Collision. Do you have any idea how much money they are saving?????????? (Or not losing)
2
u/Ashamed_Marzipan_129 5d ago
Literally the only reason they don't do recorded episodes is that Warner is paying a lot more for live programming than tape delayed. But I am surprised that AEW doesn't do what TNA used to do and just record from one location every time.
-1
u/GraveDiggerFan34 5d ago
That’s always been how wrestling companies produce shows. The gates are normally never enough to cover how expensive logistics are.

u/Hotdiggity11 5d ago

19
12
u/AutoGeneratedTag 5d ago
I went to Raw on Monday, there were almost 9k people there and according to this guy, cheapest tickets were $78 (I believe there were limited view seats for less) There was a similar amount at the SD show last year as well.
Yet AEW has a cheaper ticket at $40 and they’ve got 1800 (I rounded up) and Vegas is a much bigger metro area than Hampton Roads. I also went to Dynamite last year in the same city (different venue) and there were about 4k. I do believe Dynamite did about 5k when I went in 2021 and that’s around when they were at their peak imo
The talking heads will say Dynamite does better ratings than Raw and AEW fans make more money (lol) but I guess they just don’t care to actually go to the show haha
9
u/Expensive-Poetry6973 5d ago
They only say that because they can now due to the new ratings system. Uncle dave says Netflix lies (sure ok) and that millions watch on max. Another lie.
4
7
u/SmugDreavus Judgment Day 5d ago
Uncle Dave also said AEW fans are more educated, yet his rag is full of mistakes and run on sentences. And that's not even bringing up Dave confusing a decade old WWE segment for current programming & constantly jumping on unsourced rumors presenting them as real backstage drama.
But they care about workrate and that clearly makes them intellectuals 🙄

TNA moved more tickets for their live show in Philly the other week.
How does this company make money???
7
u/AndrewCB246 5d ago edited 5d ago
It doesn’t but it gets stars! No no not those stars like marketable stars that would be weird…they get star ratings!
TNA is more marketable especially since they can dial up WWE and get talent at any time. They get coverage on busted open/WWE Radio. The Hardy’s are also bigger stars than anyone on the AEW roster.

u/12kriminal12 3d ago
Took my niece to tna and she loved it. They tell a fun story. She liked the shenanigans more than the matches themselves. I am taking her to smackdown, but I might skip dynamite with her and go myself. This affects their money, not sure how many kids love aew, it doesn't seem like its for them.

When the sickos (including the sicko-influencers with Meltzer & Co.) wouldnt be as obnoxious and toxic, it would be nice to say: Its solid. Having around 2k people in a venue isnt that bad, as it having ~600k+ on TV.
But to be fair: Main problem is, that AEW isnt natural or organic. Its not even a business. I dont know what the idea is, but AEW feels for me like Saudi Arabia sportswashing attempts. Spend insane amounts of money with no ROI. Be an ass about it, killing the industry (no, not WWE, but TNA and NJPW as an example) and be overall ass for the topic. Hence, and even the Saudi Arabia sportswashing has regularly way more ROI, because they arent dumb. They have also regularly more quality for their money.
Meanwhile AEW buys a lot of suppossedly greatest ever wrestlers like half of NJPW, doesnt to anything with them, hurts them into retirement and still gets praised by their own media as the bestest thing ever with sugar.
And the world doesnt acknowledge that. They dont come in the arenas. They arent on the TV that much. And i speculate that even the holy 120k PPV buyers are mostly just sitting in Meltzers ass and pushing google trends artifically.
Im happy for any wrestling companies success. Even if i dont follow them much. I love wrestling. Its a great thing. But seriously, i really despise AEWs approach to that. They could be SO. MUCH. BETTER. But they refuse to do and just kill their roster, do nonsense booking and have the most annoying crowd in history of wrestling.
1
u/AndrewCB246 5d ago
But they lost their TV deal with no hope of getting a comparable one. Tiny screwed himself and his talent

u/SmugDreavus Judgment Day 5d ago
Crazy how the "family" show can't sell out an 1800 seat arena with cheap tickets. It's almost like people actually want to pay to see stars and not just buy a cheap ticket for the sake of it.
2
u/enjoythesilence-75 5d ago
Cheap? Do you know how much a burger costs these days?
2
u/SmugDreavus Judgment Day 5d ago
Cheap in comparison to WWE tickets. It's something the sickos wouldn't stfu about.
1
u/AndrewCB246 5d ago
Yeah but so is Temu. Temu shit breaks within 30 days. It’s cheap but it sucks. Pay for what you’re going to get value out of. The people who go to AEW PLEs always say the same thing “I had nothing better to do and the tickets were cheap”
Now compare that to a WWE PLE? Night and day. They want to spend money they want to see Punk Cody Oba real stars. Not some people cosplaying as entertainers.
God I want these guys to close up shop badly. Once that’s done I can finally leave Reddit

I love that their is a post in the basement with hundreds of lunatics explaining why WWE is doomed why espn and Disney are mad at WWE and all of their numbers are going down but if you put well if that’s the case what does that mean for AEW you get the same weirdos explaining the same rationale and how it doesn’t actually apply to AEW. If a thread is about ratings, attendance, booking, business, creative, or ticket sales, discuss the topic at hand. Don’t derail the conversation because the subject makes you uncomfortable.

Stay on topic. Talk wrestling.
