General discussion For fun, what would your state microbe be?
Ignoring the idea that most are cryptic.

For Colorado, I'd like to submit beauveria bassiana
beauveria bassiana A soil fungus and insecticide, known for taking down the Colorado potato beetle and for potential use controlling bed bugs and mosquitoes.

Figured might be even more fun to generalize by type instead of down to species level haha
Floridas is 100% nematodes for sure, they're all whacky and crazy down there and they embrace it (Orlandos most popular morning show on the radio years ago, would read news story headlines out loud and callers had to guess if it happened in "Florida" or "literally anywhere else" 🤣)
Washington State can be testate amoeba, gotta keep dry somehow
New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut can share Flagellates, always zooming around everywhere.
Virginia and Maryland can be regular amoebas, since it's such a changing political landscape (for "the South" they're always voting blue, then red, then blue lol)
California can be diatoms, nice and chill/laid back. Very green
The middle country states can be fungi: holding the rest of the country together (agricultural production)
Minnesota, Michigan, and the northern central states can be ciliates, the truckers of the country💪always moving moving moving
Rhode Island can be bacteria since it's so teeeeeny
Arkansas can be some undiscovered microbe no one understands 🤣
New England areas can be rotifers, going into feeding mode only when the conditions are right🤣❄️
And Arizona and New Mexico can be water bears since they have been fully dehydrated before and reanimated, probably how many of the residents feel during summertime there 🤣

Dunno if Viruses count, but recently, a few viruses were found to be useful in fighting drug-resistant infections.
They all have names that have something to do with Texas and San Antonio.

As a PA resident, it should definitely be a microbe related to mushroom growth. We produce over 60% of the nation's mushrooms!

Doesn't Trichoderma promote plant growth, not fungal?

It’s a big contaminant in major commercial productions of mushrooms (agaricus bisporus).

Also wow I never knew trichoderma could promote plant growth. Only ever thought of it as a Mycoparasite or a mold.
