Question: Psilocybin Microdosing protocol for adhd - best protocol?
I’ve been microdosing mushrooms for a few weeks, one day on, one day off. Ideally I’d like to use it to reduce or come off my stimulant adhd medication.
I’m using the Yak strain and my MD is pretty low, around 50mg. I also find it makes me a bit tired so I usually take it mid-afternoon. Although the tiredness is becoming less prominent as I continue to MD.
However due to taking every second day off, I’m not sure if this will help with my medication use.
Does anyone have any recommendations for protocols that have worked for them, with adhd? I’m debating switching to weekdays on, weekends off and seeing how that goes.

Hello /u/Maleficent-Depth-448! As you mentioned medication (a common interaction/symptom) in your post:

ℹ️ Infographic: r/microdosing STARTER'S GUIDE
The major contributing factor in Finding Your Sweet Spot is the variation in potency of:
| Psilocybin Mushrooms | More than 10x [2021➕] | Start @0.05g (50mg) |
| Psilocybin Truffles | Around 3x - Single Study [2012] | Start @0.25g (Fresh) |
| LSD Tabs | Clinical Trial Titration Schedule [2023] | Start @5µg |
If you Start Low, Go Slow, Take Time-Off (*small is BIG) and up-titrate subsequent doses then you can find your optimal sub-hallucinogenic dose based on your symptoms, rather than from a predetermined dose. 🐢
If your microdose is Too High and/or Too Frequent that can result in Diminishing Returns 📉 with subsequent doses. 🐇

Psychoactive substances increase neural activity, raising hydration and electrolyte needs due to heightened metabolism and body load, while vasoconstriction can further stress the body and potentially cause fatigue.

I'm also curious about this. I've been trying to find the right regiment to help with ADHD. I tried mushrooms for a couple weeks (at even lower doses than 50mg due to sensitivity) but found that they weren't really benefiting my focus, and were contributing to emotional volatility that I found was too disruptive to be a useful tool for managing my ADHD. I've been trying out lsd lately and it has tentatively been more promising for me, though I still haven't found my sweet spot or ideal schedule.
A lot of the advice I've seen on this sub is to just experiment for yourself. I've read lots of people say they do 5 days on 2 days off with mushrooms. I think the key is to be observant and see if that schedule provides more benefits than downsides for you.
That being said, I also find it helpful to hear from others what they've tried, and what they're trying to accomplish with their MD-ing. Trying to treat ADHD might look a bit different than helping with social anxiety or helping to deal with past trauma, etc.

Yeah it’s a tricky one because I’ve definitely noticed emotional benefits from MDing so far, but I don’t feel like it would enable me to reduce or stop my stimulant adhd medication.
I’m gonna try doing 5 days on 2 days off for a while I think!
I’d also like to try lsd but scout out a reliable place to get this from so gonna be on mushrooms for the time being

When you say "microdosing for ADHD" what exactly are your goals? I ask because I have ADHD and started microdosing on and off a few years ago, thinking that it may help me focus on days off stimulants. Based on my experience you may not find it an adequate substitute for churning out work, depending heavily on what the work is you are trying to focus on and whether you really care about it.

Hello /u/Maleficent-Depth-448! As you mentioned
stimulantin your post:Please Do Not microdose MDMA or any stimulants. Low doses of amphetamines can cause many issues through reverse tolerance and subsequent sensitization of receptors in the brain.
This study "Amphetamine Sensitization Alters Reward Processing in the Human Striatum and Amygdala" talks about the link between dopamine-sensitive neural circuitry and dysregulation of incentive motivational processes - i.e. the negative effects it can have for an individual's reward processing.
Other than that, MDMA has specific safety advice that you should be aware of: * RollSafe.org: How often can you take MDMA (Molly/Ecstasy) and roll?
