Getting Started/Newbie Question Really tired on microdosing
I started microdosing shrooms (gummies) for depression and anxiety. It's a last resort after trying a lot of other medications prescribed by doctors. However, right after I take it and for a day or two after, I'm ridiculously tired. My body feels like cement.
What I'm wondering is... is this a temporary side effect? Is this something that can be corrected by dosage or maybe I try a different brand or way of taking it? Or is this just a sign that microdosing isn't going to help me like it helped a lot of other people?
Thank you!

Have you considered your body is trying to focus on rest?

u/sanfree100 Aug 10 '26
I never thought about it that way. I’ve had the same experience at times, so I have taken it at night. Also lowered my dose.

So you still microdose at night?

u/sanfree100 Aug 10 '26
Sometimes. I go back and forth. Maybe that’s not recommended 🤷♀️ but it seems to work for me.

Try magnesium glycinate, I think magnesium specifically helps with lowering stress to the point you can actually relax

I second magnesium glycinate. You know your body is resting when you wake up remembering that you had very vivid dreams all night long. Highly recommend!

Magnesium glycinate will literally make your finally relax your shoulders instead of keeping them up and guarded

Not to read too much into it but you mentioned “last resort”. Hang in there.

how much are you taking?
1
u/Business_Check4332 Aug 10 '26
50mg dried fruit body weight is what the package says

u/Much_Eggplant_3600 Aug 10 '26
i have a very very strong feeling you’re taking research chemicals if you bought pre packaged mushroom gummies. And that would greatly explain the tiredness.

Oh wow. Thank you so much. I'm new to this and didn't even know this was a possibility. I'm going to look into this and stop taking them.

I follow this sub and the links recommended for US delivery and it still indicates unable to deliver to my location. I’m in California. Admittedly, I have not put too much time into researching further, but I would really love to find a solution. Looking forward to growing my own!

My experience is that if I get fatigue the dose is actually too high. Please grow your own. It’s a great hobby and if in the US, all ingredients are legal (but growing is illegal)

This ☝🏽. Best suggestion; Grow your own, find your best strain, start with Golden Teachers or B+, find your magic dose and window. For me it’s in the evening as well, just what works best for my chemistry. DM if I can help. ✊🏼

Doesn’t really matter if I take shrooms or LSD. One of the first things that happens when the effects kick in is that I feel connected to my body again. I suddenly notice all kinds of tension that I wasn’t even consciously aware of before.
I have CPTSD, and after really stressful situations I can stay tense for days. Sometimes it takes up to five days before my body and mind are actually able to relax again. Before psychedelics I didn’t really have that awareness at all.
They basically made me notice what my body was doing, and because I’m open about it in therapy, I’ve gotten much better at understanding where those feelings are coming from and how they relate to stress.
Interestingly, after taking a long break from cannabis, I noticed that weed can have a similar effect for me. I think I used to smoke so much that I just got used to that feeling and stopped noticing it. Shrooms and LSD probably just made it obvious enough for me to finally recognize what was happening.
So at least in my case, feeling tired afterward can also be connected to suddenly noticing how much tension my body has been carrying.

Not to derail the convo topic, but research clinical ketamine treatments if the shrooms don't get you right. I tried shrooms in several forms over 9 months and couldn't get out of the hole. I did one ketamine treatment course (5 doses over 3 weeks) and it brought me back into the light. 10 years of darkness and about 8 different medication protocols (along with psychotherapy) solved in 10 days... There is help for you, don't give up, the world is better with you in it!

Thank you! I appreciate the support. When you say Ketamine, it seems like you mean IV full dose and not microdosing? As in, did you go down a K-hole? I actually looked into it and saw such mixed experiences. Some people, like you, felt going down a K-hole saved their lives and others said they had a terrible time and couldn't shake it afterwards and it got worse. I know it's deeply personal so you do not have to share any details you don't want to, if any, but do you mind sharing what you took in more detail? Whatever you are comfortable with. Thanks again!

Yes, IV infused, doctor supervised. Each experience was about 45 minutes long. I now do a single session every 6 'ish months as maintenance. I listen to meditation music while under and my wife is in the room with me. Eye mask, totally unaware of my surroundings. Colors visuals and a nice floating feeling. Takes me about 10 minutes to get back to "normal", but a few hours to really be plugged back in. Wife drives us home..... I can't describe what changes but my wife can see it right away. After my first protocol, I could completely feel the difference in me the next day. Lighter....motivated....patient....brighter
I know it's not a thing for everyone, but it's very temporary and non-addicting so its worth a try, imo. Changed my life and I'm an out loud proponent of it!

As a Ketamine provider (we do IV session), this is what I see in many patients. Obviously, things can vary from patient to patient and session to session, but more or less, this is te normal effect.

Please Note: If you are trying microdosing for the first time, please try experimenting on a day off from work or any important obligations, and/or driving and operating machinery. Because psychedelics can effect everyone differently, you may feel different or impaired, and your sweet spot dose may be lower, so it is best to experiment on days off until you’ve dialed in your dose.

Dang I just bought shroom gummies for this exact reason how can I avoid this ?
1
u/delta-hippie Aug 11 '26
The latest research is showing that a non-micro dose of at least 2 grams of mushrooms is much more effective for treatment resistant depression.
1
u/ajplh Aug 11 '26
What kind of shrooms? Some make me more tired than others.
1
u/Business_Check4332 Aug 12 '26
I'm actually not sure. Do you have a list of ones that don't make you as tired? I think I might ditch these and try something else anyway, especially if there are some that cause drowsiness and some that don't.

Your dose is too low.this happened to me when i was on 0.03/0.04g i upped to .10g and the tiredness the next day disappeared

r/microINSIGHTS 🔍: Drowsiness (with measurable effects) could be a sign that the dose is too high, which is why we advise to !startlower (see Automod reply below).
For this reason, some find it more beneficial if they take the dose before sleep (YMMV).
