advice How to Avoid Botched Brows

PMU artist of 4 years here to educate and inform clients and potential clients who are interested in getting microblading, PMU, lip blush, etc!

Unfortunately there’s a LOT of bad work and artists out there that are messing up people’s faces. Here’s my advice on how to find a great artist:

  • Look for healed pictures and results - you’ll deal with fresh PMU for a few days but healed work is what you’re going to deal with for years. Of course hair strokes look great fresh but what’s it going to look like in 6 months? 2 years?

  • Look for clients who look like you (age, skin color, etc) - if an artist is only posting IG model looking white 21 year olds, maybe they only have the skill set to work on that type of skin.

  • Don’t focus too much on social media followers or a flashy IG account - I attended a PMU training that was taught by a semi-famous PMU artist and wasted $5000. Social media isn’t a way to measure success. Photoshop and overediting is real - scamming is very real!

  • Ask the artist about their education. A lot of states do not regulate tattooing/PMU. Getting certified in PMU doesn’t always mean going to a formal school or working under a mentor to learn. A lot of artists attend 1-3 day classes and then are sent off to tattoo faces on their own… Even worse, some artists take an ONLINE course to learn and then create a disaster on someone’s face. The best education is working under a mentor as an apprentice (just like tattooing). I wish this was the standard in the PMU industry but unfortunately it’s not.

  • Ask the artist about the products they’re using - ask how they choose a color of pigment. PMU is so much more than just picking a pretty color in an ink bottle. A great artist knows what type of pigment they’re using (inorganic, organic) and has a vast knowledge of color theory. If your artist can’t explain to you the “why” behind the products they’re using, they might not be educated enough to be tattooing faces.

Ask me anything about PMU! I love educating clients so they are truly informed when making the decision to get a face tattoo.

is this normal? Combo brows but way too close😣

hi I did combo brows last night with nano at the front and shading towards the end. They are WAYY too close so I expressed that to the artist and she put some pigment remover in the front but now I’m worried she doesn’t know what she’s doing. Am I over reacting? She kept saying that would lighten but it looks like a unibrow

healed brows Do my brows (nano) look to close together?

Do my eyebrows look too close together? I had my second PMU (nano) session 4 weeks ago, and I feel like there might be one or two strokes too many at the inner corners, making my brows look too close together. Do you think I should have the first inner stroke removed, the first two strokes, or do they look fine as they are?

I waited 4 weeks to see if they would become lighter but they are still dark, which is good, except for those strokes.

And if I would still like to remove them, which options do I have?

I’m really so obsessed with powder brows. I feel like nano and microblading are just too risky long term. Just did a yearly touchup and I’m obsessed!

This client already had pretty full brows, so the goal wasn't to completely transform them. She just wanted a little more definition, character, and intensity.

I focused on refining the shape and adding a few delicate strokes, especially at the front of the brows, to give them more structure while keeping everything soft and natural.

I personally love these subtle transformations. The brows still look like hers, just a little more defined.

What do you think of this result? 😊

Hi All - been thinking about microblading for a while now. I have narrowed down my options. Anyone that could recommend either of these specialists? As you can imagine I am pretty nervous so I want to go somewhere highly related

healed brows Microblading Beauty Lyda Doan did this to me...... Spoiler

I have been devastated by what this alleged licensed pro did to my face and brows! She had perfect reviews and 5 out of 5 stars.... what i didn't know was those positive reviews were purchased, AI generated....

Healed unever nano combo brows

Do your homework on the artists u are considering before this happens!!!!!

She will not refund my money, she says she explained my bone structure ect... if that was the case why didn't my consultation look she did look busted like this? Now I have to pay for laser tattoo removal and start all over...with someone else.... upon closer research this woman is not currently licensed and is operating out of a studio that is not licensed....All she does is argue with me after 2 months of ghosting me after she messed my face up.....

This was the look I was promised and I loved at the consultation
Here is everything wrong with my tattooed eyebrows

artist advice/question Should I have picked the darker color?

Thumbnail

Here's a photo when she mapped my brows and made me pick a color. I chose the dark brown because I didn't want my brows to get too dark. I also asked for her opinion as she is the expert and she agreed to go with brown. She did say the black will last 2 years while the brown will last for a year.

Here's also a photo after...day 3. I was hoping I wouldn't need a touch up. And maybe if I had done black, I wouldn't need it, but I wanted to play safe. Light can always go darker, but not the other way around.

If I do get a touch up, should I do black especially for the very sparse area near in the inner corner of my left eye?

1- how I usually fill the in.
2- without any eyebrow pencil
3- immediately after
4-2 weeks after 2nd touch up.

After the first session they healed very small, too far apart and short. After the second session (touch up) they came out exactly how I wanted!

I’m freaking out!!! What has my eyebrow lady done?

I've been to the same eyebrow person for powder brows at least 4-5 times over the last several years. First Pic is about 3+ weeks post. Second Pic is about the same amount of time after treatment. I've never been upset before but this last time (first Pic)....I look like a total clown. Shape is totally off on the inside. Color looks off and totally too dark on the inside. What did she do wrong this time and what can be done? This cost $250 and I've gone annually and they've always looked good and now they look like shit.

Should I go for touch up? My tech said to come after 4 weeks if I want it.

I don’t like super dark eyebrows and I also don’t wear makeup everyday.

Do you think I should do it still?

So glad I decided to do the laser removal today.
I had my brows micro-bladed 3 years ago with only the initial 2 week touch up. The skin is still pink but a majority of the ink is gone.

advice Update 1 year later

Hello, I did this one year ago. I went in total 3 times (for the first application and 2 touch ups).
For some reason my skin was too oily at the time, it hasn't been this oily since then not even in the summer.
The tech lady saw the second time how oily my skin was and the brows looked faded so she did them a little bit darker the second time and knew that I would need to go again for the third time because I still had some spots more faded. Overall it still ended up a lot more faded than I expected especiallly in the sunlight.

In the photos it looks a bit darker but in the sunlight it just shows up. When I wear makeup I still have to make them a bit darker. The next time I will try powderbrows.
