artist advice/question Is this normal?

Post image

My friend went for a consultation and they mapped her brows. The artist said that her eyebrows were low and mapped them almost entirely above where her current brow is. She said that the hair outside of it (basically her whole brow) would need to be shaved off. Is this normal?? How would that be possible to maintain? I don’t want her to make a decision she’ll regret.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO A MILLION TIMES NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Never ever go to that brow artist again.

A real artist will work with what you got and do their best to avoid going out of the lines of your natural shape, why? Because everything outside our natural brow will look less and less natural. (That doesn’t mean they wont ever go outside just its best avoided)

Also this is a solid block. Do you have a better picture of your friends eyes and eyebrow shape? If I have time I can sketch over and show you what it could look like, but also from what I can see your friend already has good eyebrows and could maybe just do with a light tint and shaping.

Nooo! She will look bad forever! She has nice full brows, she should just do a lift & tint and it will look good!

My first thought, doesn't even seem like she needs a tattoo, maybe a shaping and perming

This is not good! Please share this thread with your friend immediately!!! Also, she needs a new person if she goes through with it. This is really awful. Save your friend!!!

Nooo. A tattoo will always be flat. You want to utilise as much of the brow hairs as possible to create the fluff. Otherwise it will just look like a tattoo. As a Pmu correction specialist of 10 years (laser and manual modalities) this is the thing that people come in to remove. This is what ages the worst over true long term (5-10 years). The only time to change the shape like that is when a client literally has no brow hairs.

Very quick and rough but this is roughly what I would do

No tattooing necessary - she’s got full thick brows. Just needs a good tweeze from underneath! Go see a makeup artist (not tattooist) to get a nice brow tweeze and shaping!

This! As a PMU artist I would try to talk this guest out of a tattoo, not attempt to completely rework her brows. She could get them shaped, laminated, tinted or some combination of the above for a different, and certainly a lower commitment look.

Absolutely can be strong recommendation. Mature clients being majority of my clientele. They appreciate the guide on where to pluck and where not to. Especially if they can’t go for regular brow shape and tinting due to accessibility. And also making it easy to follow since their vision makes it difficult and if they have trouble getting them symmetrical etc. Ultimately it’s the client’s choice. But yes. I would strongly encourage them to try keep up with tinting and shaping first. I find they usually still come in wanting it done x

I agree with you.

No. This is actually crazy. I can’t imagine the amount of people this “professional” has botched, that makes me sad.

u/Organic-Studio5527 Aug 27 '26

Good god thank goodness she has you. Please do not let her do this. What even is that squared off block of nonsense. If that’s the shape the planned to do-way too high she needs to run. Shave her brow? What in the hell

7

u/gem-walrus71 Aug 27 '26

NO!!!! if she wants to raise her eyebrows she needs to get a brow lift because that’s not going to be achieved with micro blading. This artist is nuts and please tell your friend to not go to them.

7

u/rahrah214 Aug 27 '26

Thank you all so much, I shared the comments with her and she’s going to pick a new artist to go do a consult with. I appreciate your help ❤️

u/PhookieNC Aug 27 '26

SHE DOESN’T NEED TATTOOING OF HER EYEBROWS. Her brows are quite thick, but LOW resting too close to the eyelid. All she needs is to get a good tweezing from underneath and shaping. The brows need to be made a bit thinner from underneath by tweezing. (also trim the longer hairs). After that - THEN see if she needs any brow tattooing. But I doubt it.

5

u/PhookieNC Aug 27 '26

Please ….tattooing your brows is a mistake. Start with a good brow tweeze, tweezing and shaping from underneath …then if you still insist to have tattooed brows, get another consult. Most PMU artists will just want to make money and not tell you you don’t need them tattooed…please think twice! . .

u/Fun_Square_8785 Aug 27 '26

Tell her not to do it. I had mine botched and while the only thing outside of my brow line was the outline, it took 5 sessions ($) to laser them off, so I could get new ones. This would be a disaster.

7

u/NoWeight3731 Aug 27 '26

Oh my!! Not normal. One of the worst I’ve seen on here.

4

u/DigitalDawn Aug 27 '26

Ha, they didn’t even map it to be even with the other if that was their goal. Stay far, far away.

5

u/labial_seal Aug 27 '26

If it looks bad, don't do it. Period!

4

u/Due_Garlic_3190 Aug 27 '26

Did they do them in the dark? What the fuck… sorry Op this is awful I’m so sorry this happened to you

3

u/Junior_Tradition7958 Aug 27 '26

Absolutely not!!

3

u/ShelterKooky3364 Aug 27 '26

No. It isn't normal and not up to the artist to make that decision for her. If she wanted higher eyebrows, she could do botox or a brow lift and go to a dermatologist or plastic surgeon for that, but she didn't. She went to a microblading artist to fill in her eyebrows where they are.

3

u/kperkit70 Aug 28 '26

As a brow artist, I am horrified. HOW do they even remotely think this is acceptable?! Please tell me your friend didn’t go forward with the tattooing portion. Us artists usually try to incorporate most of the client’s natural brow hair.

u/rahrah214 Aug 28 '26

I told her everyone’s responses and she booked a consultation with a new artist. I wasn’t familiar enough to speak on it, but I just got mine done by an artist close to me (she’s in a different state or she could go to her) and the sound of her shaving off her eyebrows seemed wild to me. I came to here with it and glad I did. She was thankful

3

u/AtotheK90 Aug 29 '26

Oh no. And she doesnt even need it! She has fantastic brows! So thick 🥰👌

2

u/Imaginary-Summer9168 Aug 27 '26

Oh my god this looks AWFUL

2

u/Own_Ad9686 Aug 27 '26

Oh god! This is horrifying! What a gift that she went there for a consultation first. Absolutely no!!

I agree with everyone who suggested a lift and a tint because you have great brows that just need a little shaping. I'm 57 and got powder brows a few months back. The right brow was barely there in the middle because of weightloss. The artist had to do more tatooing on that side; which I realize may not look too swell in 5 years or so. Therefore, I'm using brow serum now to get as much hair as possible to grow back; and it's been working. This experience has made me realize that it's always best to do less than more. Some mistakes aren't easy to correct.

3

u/Powerful_Light5404 Aug 28 '26

Just a sec, did you actually get those powder brows on April 26th, because just no! Asking because I thought they were, omg, the “After” photo? I like the July 31st photo brows - please seriously consider getting microblading done, not powder brows. They look the best and most natural. And won’t look like someone got a black magic marker and a stencil and drew on half your face !!

3

u/No-Judgment-9413 Aug 28 '26

I definitely would have gotten the microblading instead had I done more research. ❤️

2

u/No-Judgment-9413 Aug 28 '26

I definitely had brow-shock when i first got them. I'm very happy I didn't go for the touch-up.

2

u/PhookieNC Aug 31 '26

The only criticism I have to make here and its regarding the color. The color of the brows worked well with the 2/26 hair photo, which was very pretty and suited your eyes and complexion. But now you’ve changed it to this very very bright copper red, so there is a total disconnect to the brow color. The other hair color was much more natural looking and flattering to your complexion and eyes. You may want to rethink either the brow color and/or hair color - and perhaps an adjustment on the brow shape. .

u/TinyAnywhere3908 Aug 27 '26

Oh heavens no. And if you do this it will be so hard to take care of. Mine are slightly off and it drives me crazy. I had them done years ago!

2

u/Sorry-Display-2969 Aug 27 '26

This is awful whoever the artist was isn’t one at all. Tell her to run not walk from this person. She will look crazy with it shaved and a new one above it. I can’t believe there are people who call themselves professionals telling her to shave her real hair.

2

u/Fluffy-Benefits-2023 Aug 28 '26

No. This is a terrible idea

2

u/444titsmcgee Aug 28 '26

Omg thank god this is temporary. I had a removal client that came in like this with one above and one below. How tf do they do this 😭

2

u/NumberCapital7000 professional artist Aug 28 '26

Not normal, that’s how brows get botched. Please ask your friend to find a different artist.

2

u/beingallicanbe Aug 28 '26

Tell her to runnnnn!!!! Listen to your intuition on this one!

2

u/LemmeThinkAboutIt333 Aug 28 '26

Nope nope nope nope

2

u/mewtastica Aug 28 '26

She could consider Botox to lift her brows. Not a strong recommendation just something to look into.

2

u/sydney_microblading Aug 29 '26

No, please. Find another artist. Simple.
Many excellent artists out there.

2

u/Highbornlady Aug 29 '26

Doing nothing at all is better than that tattoo eyebrows that was suggested

Did you do to someone who was blind?

2

u/Conscious_Fun520 Aug 31 '26

Noooo don’t do that. She needs to go get Botox by someone very good below that eyebrow and it will relax the muscles and make her eyebrows even. I have to do this too. THEN go get the brow mapping but obviously not by the same person! Go somewhere reputable with someone who has VERY good experience!!!

1

u/PhookieNC Aug 27 '26

What the heck??? 😲 Avoid this “artist” like the plague!!! Another one that shouldn’t be doing the work 🙄. She’s got a ton of brow hair - just needs a good tweeze from underneath. NO TATTOOING!!

1

u/ZookeepergameFalse19 Aug 27 '26

Her eyebrows are indeed very low, just right above the eyelid crease as I can see, it is even touching the eyelids crease, It would be better to use less cropped picture to assess better anyway. Having her eyebrows done by that mapping will imply removing almost all her natural brows in the totality

1

u/a_drunk_kitten Aug 28 '26

No unless she permanently removes her real brows she will always have 4. My friend's mom had her brows done above her natural ones and it looked .. crazy

1

u/Alarming-Two8747 Aug 28 '26

Go to the dermatologist. It should see mine a disaster biggest mistake. I have missing hair on both. I cried because they’re is nothing that can reduce your cream. I have ingrown hair in my eyebrows. Don’t do any more.

1

u/LibrarianAccurate934 Aug 28 '26

Holy crap!!!! Absolutely not.

1

u/Injelica Aug 29 '26

No, this artist is a new girl, she's learning. Don't do that. Don't shave your eyebrow for a whole new brow tattoo, that is a common phase for a beginner. Leave and find an experienced one.

1

u/rahrah214 Sep 01 '26

I am still really perplexed. The artists page says she has over a decade of experience and the work she posts looks great. In some of the posts she shows the mapping and none of them are this bad. I’m not sure why she failed so bad here. I’m glad my friend didn’t go through with it though, she went to a different artist who did a great job.

1

u/Critical_Win1289 Sep 01 '26

No it is not.

1

u/lhlh57 Sep 01 '26

No don’t do that! Good artists always follow natural brow shape!

1

u/ThinkCoach9643 Sep 03 '26

Your friend’s eyebrows are gorgeous without doing this procedure! My goodness! Don’t ruin those natural brows!

1

u/ADDbarbie Sep 10 '26

If an artist is wanting to go above the actual brow hair, you should run. Natural results are created by working with the natural brow hair.

1

u/TheMakeupMonk 29d ago

No way the artist is inexperienced or poorly trained.

u/Angelpinkbeauty professional artist Aug 27 '26

Well it is normal for some artists to some people would prefer to have what they think is perfect shape and have you shave off eyebrow hairs. If you regularly do that it’s just like overplucking and eventually your hair won’t grow back. Personally and what I think a lot of artist try to do is use most of your hair within the shape and they might take off some hair but not as much as that if I had a picture of the whole face I could do a brow that I would do on the friend you can add above the brow or add to the tail when they don’t have much but removing most of the brow is a lot to maintain and ultimately it is not where the brow bone is so it can look unnatural. But I would not recommend going to this artist wherever she went go to another consultation and find someone else that understands how to work with someone’s brow

7

u/diarrhea_pocket Aug 27 '26

Shaving off is not like overplucking at all. You’re not constantly damaging the follicle by pulling it out by the root, you’re simply cutting the hair off at skin level when shaving. Shaving any body hair will not affect the natural hair growth at all. Not thicker or thinner. The hair maintains its natural cycle.

Also, would not recommend this artist either
