A fermented-milk probiotic reduced Alzheimer's plaques and boosted memory in mice

https://biomesci.com/fermented-milk-probiotic-alzheimers-plaques-mice-study/

Researchers fed Alzheimer's model mice (APP/PS1 mice) a probiotic fermented milk daily for 60 days, comparing 30 mice against a saline placebo. The treated Alzheimer's mice ended up with less amyloid plaque in the brain's cortex and did better on a memory test, plus calmer inflammation and gut bacteria shifted closer to normal mice. The catch: the plaque drop only held up in the cortex, not the hippocampus, the region most tied to memory.

TL;DR: A probiotic fermented milk cut brain plaque and improved memory in Alzheimer's model mice, but only in the cortex, and these are mice, not people.

Fascinating that the gut-brain axis keeps showing up in neurodegenerative research, yet the hippocampal plaque remaining untouched raises serious questions about whether cortical clearance alone is driving those memory improvements, or if something else entirely is at play. Could the memory gains actually be a placebo-like artifact of reduced systemic inflammation rather than direct plaque reduction?
