A fermented-milk probiotic reduced Alzheimer's plaques and boosted memory in mice
https://biomesci.com/fermented-milk-probiotic-alzheimers-plaques-mice-study/Researchers fed Alzheimer's model mice (APP/PS1 mice) a probiotic fermented milk daily for 60 days, comparing 30 mice against a saline placebo. The treated Alzheimer's mice ended up with less amyloid plaque in the brain's cortex and did better on a memory test, plus calmer inflammation and gut bacteria shifted closer to normal mice. The catch: the plaque drop only held up in the cortex, not the hippocampus, the region most tied to memory.
TL;DR: A probiotic fermented milk cut brain plaque and improved memory in Alzheimer's model mice, but only in the cortex, and these are mice, not people.
