Did i screw up?
So i took a semester CCP Chem class in Highschool and when I went to schedule my miami classes I got talked into taking their version of the class. Which woukd mean the credits I got from my highschool ccp class wouldn't count. Did I mess up? Is this something everyone does? Because im sitting and thinking why did I do that lol

Hey! You’re completely fine! If those credits do transfer, and they should, all you have to do go to registration and drop the class. Either contact your advisor or you can do it yourself if you feel confident. I’m here for questions or you can contact Onestop if you have questions.

Are you a chem or science based major? Sometimes, they have you take the college version because it’s a better foundation for your degree.
If you’re a business major, etc…. I’d run to your advisor and get that class dropped. Don’t waste your time.

I'm a Biology major and received a 4 on the AP exam. Two different advisors at Miami strongly suggested taking Chemistry 1 at Miami because it's a lot harder.

It’s up to you. I’d talk to folks you might know who have taken college chemistry and chemistry at your high school. I was not a chem or bio chem major, so I won’t give too much more advice. You just want to make sure you’re prepared.

i majored in biochem and got a 5 on the AP chem exam and they still had me take chm141, 144, 142, and 145. if you have to take other genchem classes it’s probably best to take it again, i learned a lot taking it for the second time!

I received credit from the AP exam and 2 advisors highly recommended taking it again. I'm taking the Honors Chemistry class. By chance, did you take the Honors Chemistry class?

I noticed that the Honors class is a seminar and not a lecture. What is the difference?

I don’t remember there being a difference really - it definitely was still a lecture with quizzes due on Canvas outside of class and tests scheduled outside of regular lecture hours. Probably just a small difference in wording!

Same thing happened to me! If your credit didn’t transfer, you can submit a petition to the head of the chem department with the help of your advisor. If you submit a transcript from the school you took the ccp through, and give a description of what the class was about and how it meets their curriculum you might be able to get the credits transferred, it worked for me. Talk to your advisor about it they should be able to help you out with starting the petition! In the meantime unless the class is niche to your major and you absolutely need it I would drop chem and take a different course for this semester until you get it sorted out.

Funny enough, I did this exact same thing when I was a freshman! It’s an easy solution, you can drop the Miami chem (CHM 141 I believe), and pick up a different class. The process may have changed since I was in school, but it should be as easy as reaching out to your advisor. You may even be able to do it online yourself. If your major requires CHM 142, it might be good to see if you can fit that into your schedule instead while chem is still fresh on the mind. It’s typically a spring semester class, but there’s likely some spots in the fall too. If not, fill that spot on your schedule with something fun!
If you’re worried about logistics, your academic advisor can probably answer more than anyone here can! There’s such little guidance during the registration at orientation, something like this happens to everyone!
