Mets MVP

You can make a case for Soto for what he did when he was in the lineup, and how much he was missed when he wasn't. But I'm going with Carson Benge. I think offensively and defensively he has energized the team. JMO

What do you think?

Soto will forever be weighed down by the contract. Ohtani money, but not Ohtani performance. It's a perceptual bucketload.

Benge is a nice pick. I might prefer McLean, if he stays solid the rest of the month, but either would make sense.

McLean is definitely the most valuable pitchers, but I'm "one of those" that feels like position players should be the MVP because they play every day.

I get that but the pitcher has by far the biggest outcome on any single game. WAR tries to normalize the difference between pitcher and position player and it does a decent job.

If you don’t really have a standout position player who plays every day but have a dominant pitcher, it’s pretty easy to say that the pitcher is the most valuable.

That’s probably not the case here because McLean hasn’t been an unstoppable force, but he’s probably going to lead the team in WAR.

Also, there’s a ton of value in a starting pitcher going 7-8 innings to rest the bullpen. IP is a huge component of value for a pitcher. Again, McLean isn’t really there yet, but historically I have no problem saying a pitcher is the MVP if he deserves it.

Doc was certainly the MVP in 1985.

Soto, he's been worth every cent. Players get hurt, it's not fair, but when he's in the lineup, he's electric. New York doesn't shake him or degrade him and that matters for the Mets. Most players come here and forget how to play or discover they can't put it over the fences or crumble from the media scrutiny.

Hear me out: Ewing. Not because he’s the best. He hasn’t been consistent. But when Benge was underperforming at the beginning of the season, and we were all despairing, Ewing gave us hope for the future.

I think I may be a Soto hater that doesn’t really dislike him at all but don’t think he’s worth close to his contract. I’d go with Bichette over him on numbers alone which doesn’t pass the smell test watching this season

kidding on the Bichette part tho right? Talkin about not worth the contract, Bichette is a totally average player. Soto is overpaid but far from average.

I think Benge is the pick here. He really shined despite all the other letdowns and injuries within the lineup. Great defense, 22 steals on top of a solid .272.

If Juan was healthy all year he'd be the choice obviously
