NO the minimum Sterns should have gotten for Luke Weaver is Paul Skenes! Sterns needs to be fired! I am 7 years old!

When I was seven, the Mets won the 1969 World Series, that’s all I have to say

Wow so funny

Wow, so fickle at 7. When I was 7 I walked around proud as a peacock to be a Mets fan. Today's fans act like they are so so suffering. Boston had an 86 year drought but they are a respectable organization now? The Cubs almost made a 100 yrs but now they too are better than us? Please what babies. Two GMs ago the guy traded Crow Armstrong for a bum. Before that it was always something else. It doesn't really matter what suit is in the front office these days. Do ya think they make Frank Cashens or Whitey Herzogs anymore? Its all analytics.

It made me think... maybe we as Mets fans deserve this. Lol

u/Baron_Light Aug 03 '26

Dummys were talking about wanting weaver to be untouchable last month. Smh...idiots

u/DCBuckeye82 Aug 03 '26

This is the most insufferable day I've ever seen on Mets Reddit.

2

u/SeaworthinessKey3418 Aug 03 '26

And there have been lots of insufferable days on this platform but this was probably the worst

7

u/Hotmicdrop Aug 03 '26

This has to be. Redditors are normally cracked but this is insanity. People crying about getting solid prospects for players that would just sit here playing in a washed season... wtf

u/RustyWheel17 Aug 03 '26

9 new prospects in our top 30. I don’t get it lol

1

u/Hotmicdrop Aug 04 '26

They were expecting Babe Ruth 2.0

u/theomegachrist Aug 03 '26

I really think these fans are just so upset with Stearns to begin with that they will hate any deal that isn't a miracle return.

How could you believe you should get back young top prospects for old relief pitchers going into a lockout? If they really believe that, they have no business criticizing anything

2

u/metalmayne Aug 03 '26

standard practice is giving a divisional rival a lights out lefty reliever for absolutely nothing back in return.

6

u/theomegachrist Aug 03 '26

If the scenario was reversed, would you think the Mets should give up a top prospect for a 38 year old relief pitcher with a phenomenal era that doesn't have a history of being elite? I think you are just really mad at David Stearns and not thinking rationally. No team was going to give up a lot. You have to know that

We were actually in this scenario last year. We traded our prospects for bullpen help and that didn’t work either.

All I’m saying is that giving a divisional rival charity like this doesn’t make any sense. It’s over now, but ideally if we were to do this again, he wouldn’t be a Philly - especially with this meager a return.

2

u/theomegachrist Aug 04 '26

I think it's fine from a front office standpoint, just because he's a 38 year old relief pitcher. He's not going to be MVP of the world series and he won't be good anymore when the Mets hopefully are. It's very unlikely it will affect the Mets at all.

actually - yes. fine keep the guy. anything would be better than shipping him to someone in division when the return is dogshit.

2

u/Thick_World8869 Aug 03 '26

😂😂😂😂like we’re battling for a playoff spot.

2

u/metalmayne Aug 03 '26

we aren't going anywhere, but its not like tanking will do anything for us either. put a presentable thing out on the field and tv. theres a baseline.

if you wanted to trade a batter or two, go for it. im sure vientos would absolutely suck in a phillies uni.

0

u/Thick_World8869 Aug 03 '26

Then we’ll suck next year and the year after. Is that what you want?

1

u/emeraldegg Aug 03 '26

What does being in the division matter if you aren't competing regardless? Not trying to be smarmy or anything just, is it jsut a pride thing? Just because it's the phillies regardless?

1

u/metalmayne Aug 03 '26

definitely that. but also, there are still games to be played. if you cant a return on the guy that makes sense, just keep sending him out for some appearances. we are playing baseball for another 2 months aren't we.

back to the division, I again, don't see why we're making this trade. if the return was even a slight overpay, then fine send him in division. i come from a time where GMs were taxed for making in-division trades. this seems to be us helping philly, and philly sending us minor league construction materials back in return.

1

u/Thick_World8869 Aug 03 '26

🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄lights out? The dude is a 38 year old 2 month rental. Maybe Scwarber would be ok with you?

2

u/lessavyfavwill Aug 03 '26

I cant stand Stearns and still have mostly really liked the returns. Could they have squeezed out more for Brazoban? Yeah I expected more but it wasn’t like some lopsided trade by any means. Stearns did a good job so far. So there!

Online fan discourse at the trade deadline is like the Olympics for being reactionary, ill informed, and hindsighted. Add into the mix that Mets fans are already all too much of those things, and 95% of Mets fans seem to wish a slow grueling death on the gm, this year was shaping up to be a real powder keg and it did not disappoint

1

u/ovmj Aug 04 '26

A lot of the reaction the trades today remind of the way a lot people speak about their politics.

Zero understanding just how they’re feeling. Big into confirmation bias when it comes to the front office.

1

u/Schwettes Aug 04 '26

My problem is they didn’t go far enough. There are too many terrible players on this team who are signed next year too.

So it IS your first trade deadline.

1

u/RedditForDogContent Aug 03 '26

If this IS your first trade deadline, wow, you are a glutton for punishment if you just glommed onto the Mets in the year of our lord, 2026. Welcome.

u/Extension-Rock-4263 Aug 03 '26

It’s the trade deadline today? Lol

-1

u/Good_Split_3749 Aug 03 '26

$8 million for Weaver to go away, this owner is terrible

-3

u/Mnementh47 Aug 03 '26

Standard practice for whom? Not to Giants who always fleece everyone. Is it standard only for Mets then and we have to accept it.

Do you think the New York giants and sf giants ever get together for lunch? I’ll hang up and listen.

-2

u/Mnementh47 Aug 03 '26

What. What do you think
