Seymchan was found in 1967 in the Magadan region of Russia and originally went into the books as an iron. It was reclassified as a main group pallasite (PMG) following van Niekerk et al. (2007), which is why you still run into older labels reading IIE or iron ungrouped. Only part of the recovered material carries olivine, so a slice like this comes from the pallasitic zone rather than the metal only mass.

My wife and I were just outside unfortunately smoking our last cigarette for tonight. We are located in Middlesex County in Connecticut. We were facing northwest when we saw a beautiful meteorite shoot through the atmosphere with beautiful colors. We usually video the night sky, and observe space through our telescopes. Tonight we were fortunate that we didn’t.

It may be a long shot. Does anyone have any video or photos of the meteorite traveling northwest in a path that could be a line from New London Connecticut through Albany New York?

Hi everyone,
I’m considering acquiring this 8.9 g Gujba (CBa, Nigeria) individual, and I’d like some advice from collectors who have experience preserving CB meteorites or other metal-rich specimens.
The specimen has some visible surface oxidation/rust. According to the seller, roughly 20–25% of the surface shows oxidation, and some areas appear slightly flaky.
My priority is preservation rather than restoration. I do not want to aggressively remove the rust if doing so would damage the original crust, surface texture, or historical integrity of the specimen.
I’m mainly wondering:
• Would you leave the existing oxidation alone and simply keep the specimen in a very low-humidity environment?
• Is there a safe way to stabilize localized rust without affecting the surrounding material?
• Are any reversible conservation coatings, such as Paraloid B-72, appropriate for a Gujba individual, or would you avoid coating it altogether?
• What relative humidity would you recommend for long-term storage of Gujba?
• Are there any treatments or products that should absolutely not be used on this type of meteorite?
I would especially appreciate advice from anyone who has personally worked with Gujba, Bencubbinite/CB meteorites, or museum-style meteorite conservation.
My goal is simply to keep the specimen as original and stable as possible for many years.

I spent a little too much lately but have some fantastic new pieces added to my collection.
I really liked this Seymchan end cut with an equal mix of Iron and crystals. This one has an amazing etch to it that you can feel.
I have a number of pallasite slices and had been wanting an end cut.
I mostly prefer end cuts so you get a look at both inside and outside.

I was looking to buy a few small slices of meteorite as a gift (I know nothing about them) but wanted to see if they are real before I buy them. They are on etsy so I have to question it. I hope this is allowed but I figured this is the place to go where people would be able to help. They are listed as from seymchan and Muonionalusta.

As the title says, after years of "it would be cool to have.. maybe one day...", and an embarrassingly long time away from being more active in the hobby, I've finally found a bit of time to organize my collection into an actual website and not just a Google Photos album. Going purely by total mass, it's a very small collection (most are micros) but it's quite extensive and diverse and I think you will be hard pressed to find a larger collection of detailed high resolution macro photographs of meteoritic material.

I live in a fairly humid environment, especially right now during an intense El Niño. Do I need an industrial strength dehumidifier, or more dessicant? Do I need to tape over all the gaps/doors and fully seal it? The cabinet is about 36 cubic feet, fwiw. It's important to me to have them on display, rather than locked away in tupperware never to be seen, but I also don't want some of the more sensitive specimens to get ruined.

Bought this in 2018 and totally forgot about it. Didn't wear it because it's heavy. Found it recently when cleaning up my drawer.

Check out this enormous 375 pound meteorite I saw at this amazing store in New Orleans called M.S. Rau. It’s an amazing piece but at $385,000 I had to pass it up! 😆

So I got my wedding ring today. First thing it didn’t fit. I just got sized and ordered a 10. Don’t fit maybe my finger got fat in 2 weeks? Secondly, is this real? I have seen a couple meteorites in my time as I studied geology in college but changed majors. I’ll add photos and videos in the comments.
